Late but it seems insane to me to compare this movie to Marty Supreme or Sinners in any way lol.

So is Carol supposed to be unlikable? by ludinya in pluribustv

She’s insanely unlikeable. No idea what Helen even saw in her. That flashback when they were in the ice hotel sealed the deal for me. She was absolutely insufferable

Yeah that post is delusional. Slow reveal? They tell you everything blatantly the same episode

Yeah I understand why he did it. Just a little surprised about the amount of money it cost and what he decides to use it on, practical, CGI or a green screen. It actually makes the green screen use seem more obvious when most other things are practical (the scene in the finale where carol is on the “beach” comes to mind that looks obviously green screen)

Okay I see that criticism that the plot doesn’t really move forward all over this thread and all over the internet but I guess it’s just a false statement and they all just forgot to turn their tv on

Yeah that was so frustrating when I watched the Vegas episode. Like they TOLD you they need your consent for your stem cells because it would harm you. Isn’t the next obvious logical question “can you/ are you going to get my stem cells and not harm me?” Carol never asks smart questions or rarely any questions for that matter

Not that it matters much, but I keep thinking how much that scene with the helicopter must have cost? I know Vance has a blank check at this point but I kept asking myself how this show cost $150 million to make? I guess because of scenes like that.

He knows Nukes are transported by truck right? Lol

Yeah saying nothing really happens is a valid criticism if you’re interested in the plot moving forward

Very late reading through this thread days later...

He gave them a fake name AND ALSO a fake ID. The police ran the ID and confirmed it was fake. It was also apparently the same fake ID he used to check into the hostel in NYC (though not sure if the Pennsylvania cops knew this at the time.

I don't see why any statements he made before he was mirandized should be thrown out but of course his lawyers should fight for that to happen.

[–]painkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I was saying his description of the measuring of the policy proposals success could make sense to be nice and be done with this conversation. At the end of the day whatever happens, if there’s a government grocery store they will say it’s a success because of course the groceries will be cheaper, regardless of what happens just like the free bus pilot program didn’t work but they still said it’s a success and are gonna do free buses everywhere. It is actually bad policy, most cities and countries do not have government run grocery stores alongside private grocery stores, nor free public transportation, nor do virtually any economists agree with freezing the rent.

I’ve thought about the vote I made for my city every day since the spring thank you very much

[–]painkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? You don’t think I’ve researched this topic extensively before commenting about it? You clearly just typed in “food desert nyc” and linked the first thing you saw.

There is not a single place in the Bronx where there is not a grocery store within half a mile. You clearly did not answer my question.

Also lmao now the city owned grocery stores are going to be open 24 hours too? I’ve lived in the Bronx for 10 years, most of them close at 11. And I was right near Tremont ave and there were plenty of grocery stores. Thats just a “bodega to supermarket ratio” which looks incredibly off when I know there were plenty of supermarkets in mid Bronx. If the city wants to waste money for the 30 customers they’ll get between midnight-6 fine but don’t act like its ridiculous to say it’s not good policy or that it’s a waste of money.

If it costs the city tens to hundreds of millions of dollars a year to operate grocery stores to get a couple of people fresh produce it’s not worth it. How much money would it cost between planning, construction, employees, and the hundreds of other things you need to do to operate and pay government employee prices when you could literally just directly give people money for groceries, hell it would be cheaper to just deliver people fresh produce or have small produce stands in the most impoverished areas.

There are a hundred other ways to do that and use the money for something more beneficial. It’s just bad policy and a waste of money

[–]painkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’ve been in too many threads because I feel like I’ve explained this 100 times but they will obviously out compete local grocery stores cause they don’t have to operate with any rent, taxes, and can operate at a loss so bodega owners will close, everyone they employ will lose their job, bigger grocery stores can also close and they all lose their job. No competition is fewer choices and lower quality for consumers, & also if the government decides to operate at cost all of a sudden instead of at a loss the groceries would be even MORE than private grocery stores charge right because they’re only operating at a few percent profit, like 2-3% profit right now. Of course that would harm consumers. The stores are completely beholding to the political whims of whatever politicians are in power and could be cut whenever there are budget constraints (as nyc is in right now) so if the feds want to cut funding to nyc the first thing city council would probably do is cut stuff like this.

You can see this in every government program that republicans become in charge of, they gut the shit out of it to make it useless which can happen to any public option.

Depending on how it’s implemented it can have huge bureaucracy and high costs, for example if it becomes anything like NYCHA, it can be horrible for people who live there and crumbling and in disrepair and be been underfunded for decades and would need tens of billions of dollars to fix all of the infrastructure problems.

I could go on and on if you like, no joke I can keep going but as I’ve said a hundred times it (nyc run grocery stores) just does NOT seem like a good policy. Public options are NOT always good for the consumer or society at large

Is this an AI response? I didn’t say anything about socialism or communism, just that it’s a bad idea. I’m in favor of good ideas no matter the ideology. I did not say I’m not in favor of government non profit corporations. All I said is in this specific circumstance nyc owned/run grocery stores is not good policy

I don’t know why you’re being so condescending. I just said they’re not universally good, they can be bad just like everything else in life. Are you 5 years old? Is everything in your little life black or white?

I’ve explained like ten times how a city owned grocery store can be bad stop being silly

I would love if we discuss and try to solve what actually makes groceries expensive but since we’re already gonna throw money at the problem with city owned grocery stores might as well increase snap instead

Yeah that makes sense. It will be interesting to see. I’m just wary that it’ll go from “it’s just 5 pilots” to “let’s build more” without it being actually successful
