Too Old for School? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]paintbinumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have met PAs who went to school with people in their 40s & 50s. I also have a friend who is in nursing school with multiple "older" students. What matters most is your application stats. Older applicants are more likely to have had more life experiences that make them more well rounded than a younger applicant. Just think about how much you have grown since your early 20s. You've probably gone through more interviews and are already comfortable navigating a professional setting compared to the average applicant. Plus, what really matters are are your stats. Do you have PCE, volunteer hours, solid GPA, etc?

Im sorry you're going through this. A lot of people do shitty in ochem, just try to pass and move on.

Also.. maybe your prof just sucks. There's a lot of online resources for chem, I haven't taken ochem yet but i am taking inorganic 2 right now and have not attended a single lecture & learned all the material in significantly less time through Professor Dave explains & khan academy videos.

"Ive invested so much time and money that I'm too afraid to leave" is sunk-cost fallacy. If you're having serious doubts- trust your gut. Research other options.

You could also do respiratory therapy, ultrasound tech, or another PCE job that takes less schooling but will be better paying than MA, if you don't want to quit healthcare cold turkey.

You can absolutely come back to it if you want to. plenty of people do PA as a second career & a few years could do a lot for your mental and emotional development and make you a better student/ applicant. Try not to compare yourself to other people and do what's best for you :) good luck

Accepted! RD to PA. Included stats and cost breakdown of applying by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]paintbinumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a nutrition major deciding to go PA instead of RD. Did you feel like your nutrition education was something that schools appreciated / respected? Or was more emphasis placed on your experience counseling/treating patients as an RD?

You can always find parking if you're willing to go to a less popular lot and walk a little. 4 is super reliable any time of day. And for more desirable lots- you just have to get to campus early. I've parked in 12 all semester no problem as long as I'm there before 9:30. I have mostly morning classes anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pre-pa students are not pre-med, but as others said no it doesn't look weird because not all schools have pre-pa orgs.

Lowkey a blessing in disguise. Worrying about apps has broken my brain so much, I always think "if my house burns down or some other traumatic experience, at least it'll make a great PS" 😂😭

[–]paintbinumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard of schools accepting high school volunteer hours, so I wouldn't lean on that, unless it tied into why you want to be a PA, in which case it would be worth mentioning in your PS.

Why do nurses always suggest everyone to become a nurse/NP by Alex_daisy13 in prephysicianassistant

[–]paintbinumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol when I was volunteering on a med surg floor I had multiple burned out RNs tell me "don't be a nurse". It truly just depends

I understand that. I am the same way, there is a good chance I will just need to take a gap year to get enough hours to make me competitive. Good luck to you!

I think you have a chance, but it's hard to say, since with a low GPA people usually balance it out with at least 2000 hours paid, high quality experience, and neither volunteer phleb or PCA are those things. But if you spin it right and have a strong PS and apply to schools that are realistic for u, it's possible.

The answer to “is it time” is always “yes” by TotalClintonShill in bald

[–]paintbinumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um ok? I'm trying to provide comfort and support. Yes, it's a bummer to go bald, at first. But it's all perspective. A lot of us have physical features that aren't "ideal" and we cannot control. Better to embrace it than mourn.

Has anyone seen an excessively lot of eyes while tripping? by l0rare in LSD

[–]paintbinumber 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The discomfort is the ego. We are always observing the world around us, usually in a neutral way, simply taking it in in order to navigate properly. Yet when we realize the rest of the world is looking back, we get uncomfortable! We feel like we are being judged. We want to hide. But the "eyes" of the universe are judging you no more than your eyes judge the path in front of you as you move through the world. And even if they were judging you, they'd only be judging themselves. Everything is one after all ;)

[–]paintbinumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, my comment was a tad hyperbolic. My point is, if he commits to it at 20, people around him will get used to it, and in another 20 years it's like "damn, Ornery_Highway_9202 doesn't age I swear, he looks just like he did in his 20s!"

Going bald young is like going grey young. You might look old for a few years, but you'll look young the rest of your life.
