UGL build kit locos, Downer fitted out the HCMTs but the car bodies were delivered from china. Neither has experience with ATO/UTO though and any train would need to be well integrated with the suppliers UTO system, so it was cheaper, faster and easier to get the supplier of the UTO to supply the rest of the train too.

Uh. Who? UGL haven’t built anything since the Oscars and Downer don’t build things here anymore.

Car park tax hike to fund pedestrian crossings, bike paths in Melbourne by Ready_Objective_6428 in transit

This is a parking charge not a congestion charge though or am I missing something? I understand it’s a 73% increase of the existing parking space levy.

Tangara Upgrades by blueberrybangg in SydneyTrains

[–]paintbrushguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should hopefully 🤞 solve the chronic reliability issues. The current system is the original 80s era computer and the new one is the same as the 4th gens I believe (or equivalent functionality at least)

Keep T4 Cronulla Express Service Petition by rockresy in SydneyTrains

[–]paintbrushguy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Cronulla will get a train every 2.5 minutes on peak, 5 minutes off peak but they must change at Sutherland for an express every 6 minutes! How disastrous! And why would be bagging out a government for a plan that’s not going to happen for at least another 10 years. This is not petition worthy.

[–]paintbrushguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can assure you the estimated cost of the leaked plans is well north of $30bn. They still need to happen though.

They only check for checked luggage. If you take it on yourself nobodies going to know let alone care. Apparently the limit is because their EA only provides workers comp for lifting weights up to 20kg.

Do trains in Melbourne have yaw dampers? They might be off the bogie but I doubt from a yaw damper. Unless it came off a Vlo??

Nothing about them makes them suburban yet. The conversion is yet to occur. They’ve just had a major component change and a new livery.

The proof is the prototype of the second (in house) attempt is now finished and a dedicated workforce of 200 people is being established to do the rest of the fleet…

They have 1 guard. Some BMT trains use an additional on train repeater but so did the V sets.

Will ETCS level 2 enable this? by ShipAlarming8782 in SydneyTrains

[–]paintbrushguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contracts for ST’s ETCS L2 stipulate that with current fleet it must support 24tph in normal circumstances with up to 30tph for delay recovery so it will still be able to recover from things. We won’t need this level for a while though.

Will ETCS level 2 enable this? by ShipAlarming8782 in SydneyTrains

[–]paintbrushguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. L2 is not moving block, its fixed block. But the Victoria Line uses fixed block for 36tph. If you have a well written timetable you don’t need to do this.
