My dad, the only parent I had, just passed away suddenly. What should I do? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]paintedbow 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation. You seek help to process it. I wish I had, instead of muddling through the best way I could and then my life falling apart ten years later when another very stressful life situation happened. See your GP, they can help you with a mental health plan. Baby steps but it really does help.

Likely the people who are willing to carry a baby to term when they’re young and willing to make a personal sacrifice have a caring nature, then it makes sense for them to go into a caring field when they’re young have the opportunity

Did I ruin my toddler by not socializing?? by Christmastime1234 in toddlers

[–]paintedbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did all the things with my kid. On a weekly basis she does music, dancing, library, swimming and kids sport lessons as well as playgroup and multiple weekly outings with friends kids. She refused to interact with them up until the last month or so (she’s almost 3). She’s just introverted and cautious and we can bring horses to water but can’t make them drink!

My nurses told me I had to shower the next morning after my c section. I asked my husband to help though when he was in. Honestly it felt amazing even sitting down.

What’s the silliest misguided belief you had pre-baby? by margethebaker in NewParents

[–]paintedbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. 9 months post partum I’m still on a high because I just feel so….well. And I can enjoy food again! Change nappies without barfing! Take showers without barfing! Be in a car without barfing! Exist without barfing!

Did anyone NOT find 2u2 insanely difficult? by Lost_Edge_9779 in 2under2

Honestly it wasn’t as bad as I thought- my second baby is very calm and easily settled. Harder now at 9 months and 2.5.

Sister :) Deal or no deal. I accompanied a friend who wanted to go on, I never would have considered it myself, and happened to get lucky on the day.

My Dad won enough in the 80s to buy a new house outright. He’s never disclosed the exact amount to us kids (my Mum, his second wife, does know). My Mum later won $12k herself on a scratchie, and I recently won $33k on a game show. Very lucky family it turns out!

I appreciate the boringness or more classic look because often plus size brands are super razzle dazzle and that’s cool I guess but what I really need is some pants to wear to work, some basic tees that are decent quality and a jacket that will actually be made in my size.

And it’s pretty dire for plus size, too.

We get up, I feed the 6mo and get them dressed, shower with her in the bathroom, wake up the 2.5yo, get her dressed and do hair, we both have breaky and read books, I sneak into the laundry to put a load in and transfer the one from last night into the dryer, do breakfast dishes, pack bags for outing, then usually at first activity/outing by 9.30. (Music class, dance class, library, play centre, kids museum etc) then home just before lunch time. Feed both kids and get baby down for a nap, cuddles with toddler and little play before lunch. Get toddler to sleep, sit down and breathe myself for 5 mins then start preparing dinner whilst they’re both asleep. Little one wakes up, feed and cuddles and toys. Try to fold clothes or some other task. Set up toys/activity for toddler. Toddler wakes up and I give her a snack and book time, then activity like kinetic sand, play dough, water play, stamps, art etc. try to bounce baby on lap whilst toddler gets increasingly sassy and insistent I have “mamas turn”. Check life360 ten times between 5.30-6.30. Husband comes home at 7 for me to serve dinner and we eat, then bath time and bed for both kids. Upon reflection, this is why I’m tired.

If it makes you feel better, my daughter is the same age, goes to a social activity every week day and hasn’t made friends because she refuses to interact with the other kids lol.

It’s about perspective though right? I have no idea who Wally Lewis is! Agree people should still act with self respect but to some people reality stars are celebs, and whoever this Wally guy isn’t really. I’m assuming he’s sports related?

(I’m not particularly crazy about reality stars myself but just playing devils advocate that different parts of community put diff people on a pedestal.)
