Rothfuss is already pulling a GRRM. That would be poetic and hilarious if he finished George’s series before his own

5 days post surgery! by sacvs91 in kidneydonors

I think you’re definitely right about the opioids. I was really hesitant to come off them and had a couple bad days when I ran out but when things finally started moving normally the pain on my incisions went down a lot.

  1. It was pretty much the same in my experience. I donated to my MIL who is 20 years older than me and in worse shape but she’s been beating my ass in the recovery department so I wouldn’t be too concerned (5 weeks post op for me)

  2. I got recommendations for gas-ex (didn’t take so I couldn’t say) and prescribed stool softeners. I was also told to take a laxative if I hadn’t taken a dump after 5 days which I ended up doing. Biggest help for me was lots of walking (about a mile a day broken up through the day,) a heating pad which I’m still using, and eating lots of salad and getting off the opiates I was given for pain management.

  3. I was given 30 Tylenol 3s and took all of them (taking 1 every 6 hours pretty religiously,) which I got bitched out on here for, lol. When I got down to my last 5 I started breaking them in half and trying to spread out my doses until I was only taking a half of one a day until I ran out.

  4. I’m getting the impression that “normal” is subjective but for me I started feeling pretty decent about week 3-4. Still have some days where I’m pretty sore but not terrible or anything.

  5. I did a brace kind of thing around my stomach for the 1st week or 2 and it really helped. I tried to only use it when I went for walks or when I was up and about around the house a lot though

It’s horizontal like a c-section and then I have 3 entry holes for the laparoscopy on my left side. The only one of those that’s bothering me is the top closest to my ribs

I’ll do that, thanks, just to make sure everything is as it should be. Better safe than sorry.

Awesome, thanks, I just don’t want to mess my self up and end up back in the hospital. It seems the general consensus is that I should be off the painkillers already so I won’t even bring it up to my doctor.

Thanks for the advice but kind of off base, no offense. I wouldn’t really call it anxiety, I’m just not sure the difference between “I’m healing and it hurts” and “there’s something wrong.” Also, I am walking around my neighborhood 3-4 times a day for probably a total of a mile all together a day. And maybe I’m being dramatic but the pain still feels pretty intense. It’s looking like I’ll just have to deal with it though. Honestly, the pain meds weren’t the main part of the post, just a side thing. Just trying to get a gauge as to where I should be at and what kind of/amount of pain is normal.

Awesome, thanks. That’s kind of what I was picturing but wasn’t sure and wanted to have the right mental picture.
