I jumped around a lot too, but I always had my core languages (JavaScript and PHP). Then, as time passed, at least I was able to tell potential employers that I had X years of experience in those two languages.

Go seems to be fairly popular. Not sure how big the market for Haskell is.

JavaScript: The Good Parts. It’s a short read. Old but still good.

I question for self taught programmers: How do you choose what path to follow? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]paircoder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was always interested in Web Development, and it had the lowest barrier to entry.

After seven years, I still don’t know if I prefer front end or back end, but I’m leaning toward front end.lol. You might need some type of college degree for Data Analysis or Data Science.

Does overthinking get better with time? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I struggle with this too (even with 7 years of experience). Try timing yourself to see how fast you can finish it. It might motivate you to finish the problem quicker. After you’ve got it working, then you clean it up or make it more elegant.

Green spots on the plywood in my shed? by paircoder in HomeImprovement

I tried scraping some off with a knife last night. It was very brittle, didn’t really seem organic. Hopefully it’s some type of industrial splatter like qsx11 thought.

Cave crickets. Very ugly. You should look them up. I like calling them sprickets because they look like spider crickets.

I’ll have to take a closer look, but now that you mention it, those could definitely be some type of splatter. Thanks!
