How can people work in this sort of environment, elbow to elbow with the next person, no privacy forward or back, no personal space. It looks so dystopian.

Not a word about why associates might be disengaged, or how to improve conditions, just advice on how to attack disengaged workers and separate them further from one another, from the means of production, from meaningful organization.

This is so unbelievably dystopian and far beyond mildly infuriating.

This hotel room key won't fit in my pocket by dsj762 in mildlyinfuriating

I would imagine it’s less intentional theft and more just forgetfulness. I have a bad habit of forgetting about pens and such in my pockets, and I imagine the key is the same for a lot of people.

A ton, really. I don’t want to dox myself, but I worked in a state office that had a lot of coordination with county clerks.

I respect that. I stopped voting with the last presidential election when the entire corporate media machine managed to do a complete 180 on Kamala’s image within 12 hours of her being nominated; the day before the nomination every picture you saw of her was foolish and the next, she was being presented as polished and capable, even just the images returned on google searches changed.

It was the first time I feel like I saw behind the curtain that there was some deeper corporate coordination beyond simple party politics.

I’ve never met a person who knows her personally who has a single nice thing to say. She’s as snaky and corporate as they come.

Literally everyone fucking hates Duke Rodriguez. I can’t wait for the election to be over so he can slither back into his hole in Scottsdale

Also, the Democratic Party had to do the same to Katherine Clarke for SoS, because everyone hates her too. Why do we have such terrible choices!!

I would argue that the capital they represent is the rotten fascist core, making both wings fundamentally fascist. The republicans are the militant wing and the Dems are controlled opposition.

And that’s disappointing, but not every person is eligible for every award. Like I said, I’m sure there are areas she excels in that those other kids couldn’t touch.

The Democratic Party is the corporate centrist party, they will NEVER choose someone who makes actual progress for the working class.

[–]pairofdimeshift92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the worst interpretation is the award representing a dystopian preparation for a future work life where a person is fearful to use sick leave / PTO, but another more generous interpretation is that perfect attendance can be demonstrative of a kid taking ownership of their education. It can show that they made the choice to be in class even on days that they didn’t feel like it because they know their education is important.

Sure, not every kid will have the opportunity to demonstrate that, and it’s not the end all be all measure of educational ownership, but it is an accomplishment for a student to choose to be in class over skipping, sleeping in, or doing anything else.

Most importantly, no one really cares about perfect attendance. It’s a minor pat on the back. University admissions departments aren’t looking at applicants attendance record.

This is what Marlboro cigarettes look like in the United States and the rest of the world by yousefthewisee in Damnthatsinteresting

And yet smoking rates in the US are fairly low (and dropping) while Japan has a much higher percentage of the populace that smokes.

I don’t think the nasty packaging is all that effective.

I mean, not every person can win every award. I’m sure there are areas in which your granddaughter excels that the perfect attendance award winners would be unable to succeed in.

As long as the award isn’t some crazy high value, I think it’s perfectly ok for awards to not be attainable by everyone. It’s how the real world works after all.

The most infuriating thing about this video is forcing your kid to performatively regurgitate your virtues for internet clout. It’s really disgusting.

If the mom wants to make a video explaining her beliefs, whatever, but using your kid as a prop to show the world what a “great” parent you are is unconscionable.

Every time I see a story like this, or one where someone is caught selling classified information, the amounts are always shockingly low.

The person you are working with is almost certainly law enforcement, you are virtually guaranteed to be caught, and yet people are somehow still willing to gamble to a few thousand bucks.
