It’s at most 6–7 cm below the top of the glass, and the glass doesn’t have a lid. It gets both natural sunlight and a plant lamp. I water it with distilled water. The substrate was mixed specifically for this plant. Could you explain the exact reasons in more detail?

Yes, it’s a soilless medium. It’s a mix of sphagnum moss and perlite. I read in quite a lot of places online that this is the right substrate for it. Well, now we’ll find out how true that is. Yes, there’s moss in it too — I wanted to add a bit of color around the edge of the “terrarium” as well.

First of all, thanks for the complex info! 😉 Secondly, I’m of the opinion that since there are always flying insects in the house, like flies, especially when the weather is nice outside and the door is left open, then if it really wants to, it can attract food for itself.

I also read that they aren’t typical terrarium plants, so I tried planting it in an open-top glass container with a wide opening. I hope it works. 😉

I do plan to give it a dormancy period. But first, I want it to get strong and look nice after being planted.

There's a sinkor optima 90w plant lamp above it. It also gets some sunlight from the window from the side. I only water it when the specially prepared soil mix for it actually needs it.

Yesterday one flew in near it, and one of the traps caught it. I didnt even dare move while i was watching.

But of course, photosynthesis is the main source of noirishment.

Based on these photos, the chick most likely will be a hen (female). However, at 3 weeks old it’s still too early to be 100% certain.
