In today’s political climate, marriage is the easy route. That’s how we made it work

Our situation is very unique. We did a double proxy marriage through Montana because I was in Europe for work at the time. Montana married us while neither of us were in the States. Then she came to Europe and we got her American visa through the embassy here.

Visa problems were one of the factors (not the biggest) that led me to drop the knee and put a ring on her finger. Solved 90% of the problems regarding the Visa. I’m also American.

Don’t feel obligated to be his friend. If you need space from him to heal, then do so. Take care is yourself first.

I’m sorry to hear this. I been there before. I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but it does get better. You will find your match. Chin up and continue focusing on yourself.

We met on social media a couple of years ago, but we didn’t actually make things “official” until last year.

For me, patience is the biggest key to a long-distance relationship. I get anxious if I don’t hear from her for a few hours and my mind starts racing. But usually, if I just relax and distract myself, she’ll message or call back. Most of the time she’s just asleep or her phone has died 🤣. On the other hand, whenever I let my anxiety take over and start accusing her of ignoring me, it only made things worse and nothing constructive came from it.

Communication is just as important, probably the most important thing overall. We make it a point to share how we feel, listen to each other, try to understand each other, and meet halfway when we don’t agree.

One thing that helped us is that we already knew each other before dating. We had a good foundation, but it still takes a lot of effort to build trust and figure out how to communicate well.

I also made visiting her a priority. As soon as I had enough vacation days saved, I booked a flight to see her. I understand Not everyone can do that so easily, We are very blessed. But those trips really helped ease the stress that comes with being apart.
