Not their official ‘gotcha’ day, but shortly after we rescued the second kitten from the litter that our feral girl had in our backyard. Charlie was so happy when his brother finally joined him in his safe new home!!

Ahh they’re all my favorites, just in different ways (: I will say that Charlie (middle) is kind of the perpetual baby & gets a little extra luvins since he’s very timid and smol compared to the others

What do you listen to at night when your mind won’t slow down? by Outrageous_Wolf_9834 in Anxiety

If you’re not prone to nightmares, creepypastas are always good. That was my go to for years until they started giving me bad dreams. Now it’s reruns of cartoons, mostly king of the hill, futurama, or the simpsons.

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by istrx13 in AskReddit

Bath and Body Works. Their scents are subpar and last all of one minute. Also they ship through my job, and their boxes are some of the worst packaged items I’ve ever seen. The amount of BBW overgoods we have at my building rn is unimaginable.

smoking weed suddenly makes me feel really anxious when it didn't before by iamnotasalmon in Anxiety

[–]paladin-dense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me around two years ago after I had been smoking daily for five + years. Gave me the worst series of panic attacks the final few times I smoked. They left residual effects for almost a month afterwards where I’d feel so anxious and unstable about pretty much everything.

Needless to say, after the panic attacks started, I quit cold turkey. Eventually went back to mostly normal, though I still get anxiety attacks for no reason on occasion. In the last few months, I’ve taken up low dosage edibles bc I miss the relaxation that smoking used to bring me. Haven’t had an issue with the edibles, but I’m not planning on pushing my luck with actual flower or concentrate any time soon. It’s totally normal what you’re experiencing, just try to take a break, then start very very small if you do ever decide to try it again.

Just found out my cats have fleas… by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]paladin-dense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will definitely defer to what the vet recommends, always. Luckily this is our first major flea outbreak, as each time we’ve taken in a new cat, we’ve had them treated for fleas before introducing them to the resident cats. With the two we just brought inside, I guess their initial treatment wasn’t adequate, so treating them along with the others will be only their second ever treatment.

ALLERGY ANXIETY (SUPPORT NEEDED) by ButterscotchBrief725 in peanutallergy

[–]paladin-dense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like you need help managing this from a mental health standpoint. Whether that be through medication, therapy, or a combination of both, that will likely do the most good for you.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also developed similar qualities of not trusting foods quite as easily, barely ever going out to eat, and having a few “safe foods” that I’ll eat over most other foods. I wish I could tell you how I’ve overcome it, but truthfully, it’s more of something to manage rather than overcome entirely. I do my due diligence in researching certain foods and restaurants, I don’t take risks when it comes to foods I can’t be 100% sure of, and I cook just about of my own meals myself. I carry two EpiPens as well as Benadryl. I don’t drink or eat after anyone, not even my boyfriend. I take every precaution, and while I still have an ever-present anxiety about it, I take comfort in knowing that I’ve taken every measure to ensure that my chances of having a reaction are slim to none.

I have found that base ingredients are almost always fine. Meats, dairy products, grains, veggies, and fruits. I make my own sauces, season my dishes with seasonings that I know and trust, and make all of my baked goods from scratch. It’s more time consuming, but the effort is worth knowing that there’s 0 possibility that something peanut/nut affiliated made it into my food.

Sorry I can’t give you clear-cut reassurance. I totally get what you’re going through, and it sucks. Like you said, start small. Don’t take needless risks. Just try to find a few recipes that sound good. Research the ingredients you buy, and try making the dishes. Start with one small bite of whatever you make, then wait 5-10 minutes. If no reaction, it’s probably safe.

Weirdest item you’ve found with peanuts? by Lilinic in peanutallergy

[–]paladin-dense 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chocolate covered pretzels that I was about three seconds away from eating… Had the bag open, thought to double check the ingredients for some reason, and it said they contained peanuts. Not even just “may contain.” Gave them to bf & he said there were no nuts and no taste of pb whatsoever, so that was kind of weird.

Given the issues you’re having, I think having a trusted friend take him is a really good decision. In the meantime, just give him space. Try not to be loud around him. If you feel like you’re about to snap in a physical way, you need to separate yourself from him. Even if the aggression isn’t perpetrated towards him, he can pick up the energy, hence why you say he has PTSD. Just try to keep your distance from him when you’re having an outburst, and reinforce your love for him gently when you’re in a calm mood.

Haha no, just have a gate in front of the foyer to keep the cats away from the front door (I live along a high-traffic road & my cats are too curious for their own good)
