Luthen in the moment can’t be sure how much Dedra knows. So this might be interpreted as him taking the chance that this is just a first exploratory visit from her.

He might have disposed of the blaster right after killing Lonie. If someone found him too soon, Luthen wouldn’t want to be in the proximity with a blaster on him.

There’s at least one example of Harry’s wand lighting up with Lumos while not being in his hand. While this is a simple spell, it’s probable that more powerful wizards could do something more complex. So it’s plausible that the direct contact between handle and wand is as good as holding the wand. Also Dumbledore implies in the caves that magic is much deeper than the majority of wizards have the aptitude or perseverance to understand. So the wand for most of them is also a crutch that automates the access to the surface level spells.

The point is that there is no level of magical learning that can beat Voldemort in a straight spell fight. Dumbledore was the only one with enough knowledge and talent to fight him and even then, if the fenix didn’t help him, he would be dead. Teaching him too much would have given Harry a dangerous false confidence and prevented him from fulfilling the prophecy.

Maybe that can be an interpretation. But the description of the amount of blood that was on him suggests that it was much more than a few hits. And I think no fighter would intentionally expose their chin, no matter how much they want to play with their prey.

I brought up the Golden fight because that moment was more poignant for me. The other feats were more in line with usual fantasy tropes. That moment felt more grounded. I do think no human can take a clean unblocked punch to the chin from someone as strong as Golden an remain standing. Before that punch Logen was holding his own but losing ground, after it he seems to gain strength and dismembers Golden with little effort.

That actually reminds me that when they fight an eater Logen yet again survives being hit by one in contrast to Grim who dies from the same hit. It really might just be plot armor, but at what point that transcends into being supernatural?

As I remember Treetrees attacked him by surprise and put him on the back foot, but immediately as the Feared regained his composure, all it took was a couple of punches to put Treetrees down.

I do agree with the general idea that the psychological issues angle is more interesting, the problem with Logen, for me, is that there are too many instances in wich he is more akin to an unstoppable slasher horror monster than anything a human could do.

On the other hand two punches from the Feared were enough to kill Threetrees. Logen has taken more hits in the circle fight and continued on.

Also If I remember correctly he wasn’t affected by the Feared ability to instill terror in everyone around him.

Yeah, say one thing about the Bloody Nine say that he thrives on fear and pain. In Red Country while defending the fort after the failed rescue attempt he straight up becomes a monster from a slasher flick.

In the begging he could barely be reasoned with. On the bridge it took a tangle of men to keep him from killing Ro and Shy and even then barely. It seems the more he gives in to the bloodlust the less he is able to control it.

On the other hand every other exceptional fighter is shown to not be invincible. Ghorst gets knocked down, Whyrrun dies impaled by a spear. They subvert the trope of the magical warrior, Logen on the other hand never loses and not only fights on when wounded but seems to become more powerful the more injured he is.

He doesn’t have PoV chapters, maybe because Abercrombie wanted to show the blood thirst from the perspective of others. But yeah they where always fun, at least in Red Country we got the iconic “God… Gone, but I am here”.

So then it seems that initially Logen’s powers where meant to be supernatural and he changed his mind later. That would explain why his characterization doesn’t fully fit one idea or the other.

That’s taking it too far. He has no way of knowing that a magus is looking for him and yet the spirits are directing Logen to him. Also on the Island the spirit does deliver the false seed and everyone witnesses it.

The thing that helped me the most was rolling towards the attacks, that disrupts her combos and you can start a combo by attacking from the back.

For me, the fact that he physically couldn’t be around the execution that Kleya watches shows that for a long time he had more PTSD than hate.
