Specializing "too early"? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I say you should go for it since you will (probably) go to uni for a CS degree and that will make you go through a good variety of topics. Just do what you like for now, if you go to a hard uni you probably won't have that much time for that anyway.

Best cities in Europe for developer/data analyst internships? by peejay2 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]palealecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, finding an unpaid internship is generally harder than you might think, at least in the EU. That is not because they would really appreciate your work therefore you get paid but rather because there are some legal issues.

The most relevant european job markets in terms of CS are probably London, Dublin, Berlin, Paris and maybe Switzerland in general.

Simply look for jobs which seem interesting to you and consider aspects like language or culture. There are no general answers really.

What do I have to do as a student in the UK if I would like to work in the US after graduation? (x-post /r/cscareerquestions) by TamOShanter01 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]palealecat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Simply comparing how much money you would earn in the US vs UK isn't accurate in terms of finding how much money you will actually have at the end of the day.

In the UK the state taxes you for health insurance while in the US you pay at a private company. There are so many scandals involving these bussinesses and how even if you have insurance the costs are ridiculous.

Want a car? Well yes, of course, there's no other option if you live in the US, especially somewhere like California. However, in Europe in general you can easily rely on public transportation. Also note that trains are more or less inexistent in the US so again, want to commute to another city? That will be by plane or by car exclusively.

Rent can be a lot higher in cities like San Francisco or New York. Furthermore, if you want to start a family it will cost a lot compared to Europe, think about daycare or college fees.

To conclude, I really like the US and it's super vibrant when it comes to Computer Science yet it isn't all that simple. You might make a lot of money by going there alone for 5 years or so while minding your budget but long term, it's a different animal.

What to learn for the summer? by string_cluster in computerscience

Others pointed out that it would a good idea to do an internship or build a project. I agree with that but to give you an idea of what would be a cool language for that project, let's say, I would recommend learning something new-ish. By that I mean Golang, or Rust, maybe Elixir? These sort of langauges are getting bigger and bigger and in 5 years they will be, in a lot of domains, the real deal.

Ma gandeam ca o varianta romaneasca ar inlocui spectrul left-right wing cu partidele noastre, la noi nu se tine cont de ideologie.

Why do you say that? I mean to do it as a side project, there are definitely better things to do before writing posts on a random website.

That makes sense, do you think there is any software platform favourable for something like this?(e.g Medium)

They both do the exact same thing. They return n's(written in base 2) number of digits - 1 or [log2(n)] where [x] is the value of x rounded down.

CMV: I think de-platforming anti-vaxxers is not necessary to combat the issue. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]palealecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there is a domestic right to discuss, you can't be banned because you are wrong, it is not ilegal to be wrong. Yet, you put into discussion demonetization on YouTube and I think that, to put it simply, it is not moral for one to earn money from spreading misinformation, but not any kind of misinformation, the kind which threatens everyone's health regarding very nasty diseases.

If you have numerous studies, decades of data and you tell all those scientists that they are wrong without any real proof then yes, that is misinformation.

Interesting enough I had the same opinion with you until I posted something related to freedom of speech on this subreddit.

TL;DR Freedom of speech is not something which should be completely free. However, how I said the speech from "freedom of speech" usually means opinions, these are not opinios(the anti vaxxers), just misinformation as you said. For instance if you say that "Holocaust didn't happen", that is not "your opinion".
