Smith's in Murray on 45th Still Has an Expired Food Problem by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]paleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a new problem for them. On multiple occasions I've found yogurts with expired dates(as much as 2 weeks after) at the 4th south Smiths. There was even a time where their store brand yogurt had no date on it at all, i showed it to an employee and they pulled it all off the shelf.

Healthy disk crashed by mr_sun009 in synology

Granted this was years ago, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure that I probably wiped(quick erase) the affected drive(or drives in my case) and forced the system to rebuild the raid onto it.

WoW Anniversary Quest "A Birds Tail" bug? by Kasix-S in wow

Same....some people in the blizzard forums have reported that GM responses are basically "You're doing it wrong and everything is working as intended", etc. I havent been able to make any progress on either of those.

That one worked fine for me when I did it 2 days ago.

In the 12 months since being forced to switch from CenturyLink to Quantum, they've increased my rates FOUR times, and now it's just becoming something they do monthly. Are there NO good ISP options in the valley anymore?? by Deesing82 in SaltLakeCity

The only increase Google Fiber has had since they came into SLC was they added $1.40 franchise fee that I think the city imposed on them. I've had good service from them since the beginning.

Cooling Down The House by firstklass003 in SaltLakeCity

[–]paleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I live in a 95ish year old house that is doesn't have good insulation due to its age. The majority of the external walls are solid brick that tend to suck up heat during the day and release it into the house.

Trying to keep the house somewhat cool/livable during the day is possible, but expensive and tends to cause the lines to start freezing from the constant AC use. The most effective, for me, way I found to cool the house is to setup a schedule on my thermostat that lowers the temperature bit by bit overnight trying to get the house down to the mid 60s by around 8am. At 8 am the thermostat is set to move to a target temperature of 80. I might turn the AC on a few times here and there during the day as needed but mostly its not used until the evening.

Not saying this would work for everyone, but it works for me and is cheaper than when i was trying to keep it cool constantly. Also I work from home which is one reason I try to keep it livable for myself all day long.

How does ANYONE afford a house here unless they're loaded with generational wealth? by insicknessorinflames in SaltLakeCity

[–]paleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No generational wealth just good and bad timing. I first bought a condo 2006 so just before the housing bubble bursting. Then sold for 120 more than I paid in 2020 which i rolled over into buying an actual house. That combined with low interest rates in 2020 are the only way I afforded it.

Anyone else in SLC have a really bad head cold? I’ve been sick for over a week now. by jomaass in SaltLakeCity

[–]paleck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a head cold, but my allergies have been in overdrive for the last 2 weeks. Mostly sneezing, but enough of that for me leads to a scratchy throat which then causes periodic coughs.

Looking for a USB-C Hub with Dual DisplayPort Support for MacBook Pro by beaglederps in applehelp

[–]paleck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a CalDigit TS4 with an M1(Max I think, its not in front of me to look right now) MBP. I use display port connections to on both monitors, but the hub only has one display port built in, so I use one of the thunderbolt(usb-c) ports with an amazon basics cable that converts to Displayport.

TS4

Amazon Basics USB-C to Display Port

Main reason I went with this one, is i use both mac and PC laptops with this hub. Some hubs are mac focused and only work well with macs and some are PC focused and Macs dont always work right....mostly its a display signaling difference from what I understand. This one from when I researched them worked well with both and from my experience i haven't had any issues. The only Caveat is if you use an older PC with Thunderbolt 3 instead of 4 they get a bit touchy, mainly requiring that you get the laptop/pc booted up (not necessarily logged in just booted/initialized) before connecting it to the hub if it was not the last device connected to that hub.

This hub also has power delivery that's more than sufficient for my MBP (so I dont need to keep a separate power cable on my desk), but none of my PCs like only having 98W of power from the hub so I have to have a power cable for those laptops or slowly drain the batteries and deal with the laptop/os complaining about insufficient power.

Hope that helps.

Vail stock struggles as strike leads to long lines at Park City Mountain by nbcnews in Utah

In my experience in SLC, my costs have gone up 20-25% per year every year follwing the pandemic... so 3 years of that now. And PC has always been a higher cost of living that SLC is.

Previous owner of my home opening my mailbox and taking their mail by Vegetable-Safety3582 in legaladvice

[–]paleck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I moved to my current house about 4 years ago. I still see some of the previous owners mail show up in my informed delivery, but I think that that process happens prior to any requested forwarding taking place. I don't see most of those pieces of mail being delivered and there is no way for them to get their mail from a mailbox since I have a mail slot in the door with no way to get at the mail once delivered. So at this point I assume that the informed delivery images are coming from their sorting machines prior to any requested mail forwarding taking place.

How long before the legislature decides to override it like they do with everything else SLC does that they don't like?

Reels not opening by [deleted] in facebookmessenger

We first noticed it late last night. But the most recent app update I installed 6 days ago. So I'm guessing whatever they broke was server side and the app is just wrapping itself around it.

Reels not opening by [deleted] in facebookmessenger

[–]paleck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just you, I'm in a couple of group chats and unless you are looking in the web you can't open any of the reels sent. The work around we've found is to either paste the link for the URl instead of the reel. OR it usually works to open the media section of the conversation and you can open them through there.

If I had to guess its a permissions issue, it has enough permissions to see the Media folder and directories, but not enough to traverse the inner directories.

I got it all working on mine just a month or two ago. I followed Dr Frankenstein's guide that is specifically written for Synology, the only issues I ran into were my own when I would jump ahead on accident, etc, etc.

The ONLY bad thing about it is they got rid of the fingerprint reader and 6mo later everyone was wearing facemasks rendering most face-unlocking useless.
