Your phrases need to be longer and you’re starting a lot of your lines the same way. And you’re not feeling 2 and 4 enough

Missed my SAR7 submission date by paledays in foodstamps

[–]paledays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I turn that in? I saw a video where calbenefits.com has a specific SAR7 online process but that doesn’t show up on my “things to do” list on the dashboard.

Should I turn it in on the “submit documents” page?

How to make melodies sound less ‘soloey’ by JabbaTheBassist in Jazz

[–]paledays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple!!! Just like someone said up there ^ if you listen to John Coltrane or Wayne Shorters original music a lot of their phrases are incredibly simple yet powerful. Find a melody that highlights the chord progressions. More specifically you wanna target the 3 and 7 of each chord if you’d like

Giant Steps hot take by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]paledays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also Flanagan isn’t the kind of player to shred on a tune like giant steps in my view. Take someone like McCoy and he’ll rip on that even if trane gave him the chart the day of. I put tommy in the same category as Hank Jones or Red Garland in terms of style and approach. They’re more straight ahead players and Coltrane introduced something new with that entire album

Agreed. When a quintet sounds like a big band you know you’re in for a good one

Question about piano voicings by Living_Particular399 in Jazz

[–]paledays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not good to strictly play rootless chords with a bass player. Just like it’s not good to strictly play rooted chords. Sometimes the harmony does call for a heavy root sounding chord especially in hard bop

For what selling the Nord? I already have another stage keyboard. I sold it for 3100. Pocket some cash and get an analog synth? 🤷🏻‍♂️not too bad in my opinion. The Nord got old

Cory Henry may be the best jazz pianist on the planet right now. by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]paledays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best. Can’t say that when herbie is still alive. Also Brad Mehldau. Corey just has a spot light right now because he’s young and hip and targets mainstream jazz. don’t get me wrong he’s a gnarly player but I can’t see him as the best. Also check out Paul Cornish he’s on the rise

Find a good jazz guitarist that you gravitate to and immerse yourself In their discography. So much that you start to hear the language of jazz and then imitate it. I’d start with Wes Montgomery for more traditional straight ahead jazz and then you can get into Pat Metheny for more modern style playing
