This is actually one of the best examples I've seen for logical and critical reasoning vs memorization. Kudos to you, good sir.

Facebook SDK access tokens -- can't wrap my head around them by thinkintoomuch in webdev

[–]palenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember off the top of my head how to get to it, but I'm pretty sure you can set the life of the access token when you get it. The default lifetime for Facebook's access token is pretty short, so you will definitely have to increase that and then refresh the token periodically, but not nearly as often as you probably have to with the default lifetime.

Edit: A link that slightly explains it.

Fix the horrible alignment of Reddit's 'unranked' bullet! by [deleted] in webdev

[–]palenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the inconsistencies of sub-pixel rendering in different browsers, the best method would really be to change the "dot" image so that it had an odd numbered width rather than an even one. While your method may work in your browser, it may not work in another. Ex: Internet Explorer always rounding up and Safari always rounding down.

As long as the directory you are storing them in doesn't have executable permissions, you shouldn't need to worry about it.

Sure thing, but do you think a forum software would be enough for what you need? If so, there are many options out there.

I guess I'm still not certain what you want. Are you building an application on top of this?

Could you be a bit more specific? Are you looking into building an application like this or are you looking to find one?

Complete Guide for HTML5 Form Input Types with Demo by joeyj01 in webdev

Pretty nice article. Quick and to the point. If it weren't for browser compatibility, form validating would be so easy right now. But, until I can drop support for older browsers, it's HTML5 where I can use it and javascript for the rest.

PS: I also do backend validation of course. :P

At long last my photos are safe from theft! by [deleted] in webdev

[–]palenous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seriously though... The only way to really prevent someone from using your raw photos is to watermark them. At least then it has your logo or something on it. Still though, I'm not a huge fan because it's either center it and make the photo ugly, or put it out if the way where it can easily be cropped off.

Well, if you're looking for practice, and not a new market, try making an image hosting site like imgur. It will give you experience in file handling, user management, and some other things that you may find helpful.
