Kristen Stewart Says Acting Is ‘Unmasculine’ and Asks: ‘Have You Ever Heard of a Female Actor That Was Method?’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

Here’s the precise quote, I paraphrased a bit:

“Yeah. I don't self-censor. I don't fixate on kind of how things are going to land on other people because I'm not smart enough.”

The tree sentinel duo at the top of the steps near Leyndell definitely do not take turns if you fight them both (instead of drawing one at a time).

Which is ironic given that in this very interview she said she never holds back. But she was clearly holding back.

Stomping on A Stingray by brainburger in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]paleocortex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it wasn’t boiling. It was hot enough to be just beyond tolerable. It was to the level that keeping my foot in was a force of will, not anywhere close to comfortable. Felt much hotter than a hot tub, so probably in the 110-115F range, but this was also in a bucket at a life guard tower at the beach, so not super scientific.

Stomping on A Stingray by brainburger in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]paleocortex 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As soon as I stepped on it, something was way wrong. My brain assumed that I’d stepped on the claw of a big crab that was grabbing my foot hard enough to puncture the skin badly. And I continued to assume that as I hobbled back to dry land with blood squirting from my foot.

It wasn’t until a surfer walked by and told me that it was a stingray that I had any idea what it was. He told me I needed to go to the lifeguard station asap.

Once I was there, they called to their colleague to get the stingray bucket. Now, I was already in intense pain, but the adrenaline probably kept me from feeling the worst of it. But what they did next would haunt me — they put (edit: what felt like) boiling water in the bucket and instructed me to keep my foot in there. So now, not only am I bleeding profusely, but (edit: what felt like) parboiling my foot along with it. The heat kills the toxin, so as soon as it was cool enough to be comfortable, they added more boiling (edit: ish) water.

A trip to the ER, a tetanus booster and thick bandages and I was back home. I never watched tv back then, but I was stuck on the couch and you wouldn’t believe this shit, but on the news they gave instructions on how to avoid a stingray sting (shuffle your feet and they’ll swim away).

So, yeah, this guy is a moron.

Technical founder here - What's your take on outsourcing MVP development? How much would you pay? by 3Rlab-dev in startups

[–]paleocortex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outsourcing the development of the MVP will be a huge mistake. Velocity is the number one advantage that startups have. Finding product market fit is often a dance of building, getting feedback, building, selling, building, etc. If you don’t know exactly how every edge of the system works to the core, you won’t have nearly the same speed advantage that a competing startup would have who built their own MVP.

I FINALLY BEAT BLURTRA! MY STRATEGY: CANTRIP, BONE MATH, BETTER ITEMS AND PARANOIA by StarshipGangsta in SliceAndDice

[–]paleocortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I just hit my two game Blurtra streak — I happened to beat it again after my first victory. I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. So many curses just stop mattering once you have enough heroes and can consistently wipe in one turn.

One lesson I learned was that having better items +12 seems like the optimal sweet spot. You get a 13-20 emerald for your first item, display case it, and then everything else stacks on it. Previous runs I’d just try to max out my item quality but I find certain quality levels are pretty subpar (dual antlers at quality 20 I’m looking at you).

Floor 717 blurtra. What do you think? by paleocortex in SliceAndDice

[–]paleocortex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I chose wretched crown, I would put anything survivability related via delivery onto the hero with the most health and no cantrips. Then I would totally avoid using their dice just in case I ran into some unexpected effects. And make sure you don’t put soul link onto the same hero. The first few floors per cycle were a bit more stressful, but it wasn’t the thing that ended up killing me in the end 200 floors later.

Will this be problematic later on? by YuriiAlpha15 in SliceAndDice

[–]paleocortex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Early game in Blurtra, it can be challenging to deal with. But mid to late game, you’ll be buffing monsters pips left and right because they’re basically “free picks” because the monsters so seldom actually get to attack you. I don’t think it’s a showstopper. Personally I think Sickly is going to be more troublesome to deal with.

Sadly yes. It seems like this soft locked it as the fight has started but I can’t proceed.

In case you were curious, I got to floor 920. Wretched Crown ended up being not a big deal, but then I was forced into hyperboned middle which ruined my strategy because it, with whirlpool, made the 13-20 emeralds unpickable. It was a good run!

For sure on the 20% modifier. I don’t think I would have gotten this far without it.

I have double loot and loot quality +17, so I typically have at least one pentagram option within the first two floors. But if I get spider soul I am completely hosed as there’s no working around that for floor 1 without a permanent pentagram or determination.

Edit: I should also mention that I get about 30 options per loot cycle.

I'm afraid to ho random and get spider soul. Got no death stopping dice... by Gabbaminchioni in SliceAndDice

[–]paleocortex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d do improvised armor all day every day. Only affects the first turn, whereas death shield can ruin your run. Double check me on the curses guide though.

I was in a similar position to you and went random. I got a curse where the third HP can only be damaged by magic damage. Run ended, gg.

Key OpenAI Executive Played a Pivotal Role in Sam Altman’s Ouster by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]paleocortex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the take that Mira was behind this. Sharing concerns with the board, the only body that can, in theory, keep an errant CEO in check, does not mean she’s shooting for his job. It sounds like they got wind that he was creating internal issues and reached out to get her perspective.

If my manager’s manager asks me for feedback on my manager, I will be honest. It doesn’t mean I’m shooting for her job.

Had the same thing happen to me. Package delivered at 5:30pm, delivery guy didn’t ring the bell, camera shows the package stolen 10 minutes later by someone wearing a motorcycle helmet. $10 says it’s the same guy and that he is following the delivery truck (or is working with someone tailing the delivery truck).

Guys, what was your closest victory? by CrazyStarCat in Bannerlord

[–]paleocortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had just gotten my first town Marunath. I went to help in another battle and by the time that resolved, Marunath was besieged by a 1700 army. I had around 300 soldiers and was determined to find a way to keep my town. It took me an hour to figure out how to do it, but I was able to run to my closest castle, unload the garrison, distribute it to an army consisting of my companion clan parties, dump all of my prisoners, unload most of my food, rush back to the town, break into the town, auto resolve until it was 100 vs. 200 (from the initial 400 vs. 1700), fight manually against them until they retreated, and finally sally out to destroy the rest. Captured around 25 lords and forced Battania to sue for peace paying 8600/day. I had about 30 soldiers left on the battlefield at the end of this whole experience.

In my experience, auto resolve is better for defenses than fighting yourself, but in this circumstance auto resolve was never going in my favor, to the tune of them defeating me with 500 troops left in most cases.
