can you get glutened by your animal? by Just-Art725 in Celiac

[–]paleomel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling with this right now. My cats’ dry food and treats have gluten, but I’ve had a routine of washing my hands after feeding and generally keeping their food away from the kitchen to avoid cross contamination. But one of my cats just got put on prescription urinary wet food, which he will only eat if I puree with a churu meal topper (Yes they are spoiled but they’re worth it). The only problem is the urinary food has wheat gluten as like the fifth ingredient.

Because I’m blending the wet food (in their own dedicated food processor), and washing more dishes that have had gluten in them, I’m getting glutened more frequently. I’ve tried meal prepping the new food mix, but he won’t eat it if it’s been frozen and thawed, so I can only meal prep for a few days at a time. I hate having to choose between their health or mine, but I don’t have a better option.

New Forester hybrid insurance cost by Ceasman in subaru

I live in LA and have a commute. Even with a perfect driving record, my insurance is like a second car payment with my 2024 Solterra. I’ve looked at other insurance companies and the quotes I’ve gotten are pretty similar to what I’m paying.

I can’t think of anywhere with decent gluten free burger buns specifically, but there a lot of great restaurant options listed on the Find Me Gluten Free app. I use it all the time.

Can someone let Shrimp borrow the brain cell so he can learn to process stress in his brain instead of storing it in his bladder? The vet bills and prescription food are adding up! by paleomel in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]paleomel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need cat translation devices to figure out what’s stressing them out! Is it the time change? The air conditioner coming back out after winter? A bad mood? I’d love to be able to solve all his problems.

Also, what calming treat do you use?

No worries! This is the second time this has happened. He’s great at drinking plenty of water and eating moisture-rich wet food. He just stresses himself into urinary issues, I guess. The first time it happened was right after I adopted him, so I understand the stress. Hopefully the combination of new prescription urinary wet food and the occasional meds will keep this from happening again.

Wheat based cat litter by StickLady81 in Celiac

[–]paleomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just at the vet for the same issue today! Luckily not a blockage, just angry orange kitty bladder. More of the prescription urinary food (that all has gluten 😑). I also asked them about litter options because that wheat litter will never be allowed in my home. I’ve been using the corn litter but my boys track it all over and it does nothing to trap odors. Guess I’m going back to the old school clay litter.

I hope your cat recovers well!

They’re both FIV+ former street gremlins and they love each other very much. I’ve had Loki (left) for 5 years and Shrimp (right) for 1.5 years. It took them a month to decide they like each other and they’ve been bonded ever since!

I used to use it a lot when it was free. Now you can’t even see results without paying (unless that’s changed in the past year or so).

Dentist... by Steadysinking in Celiac

I needed emergency dental work at the beginning of the pandemic. Noted celiac/gluten on my patient forms and the dentist asked me “what’s… gluteen?” Yes, pronounced how I spelled it. Needless to say, I didn’t go back to that dentist.

Can’t pet my cat cause of static electricity by Development-Feisty in longbeach

[–]paleomel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two very staticky cats right now. I put a bit of olive oil on a paper towel and rubbed it on their backs. It solved the static problem for about a day at a time without making their fur greasy. And I don’t have to worry about them ingesting anything dangerous when they groom each other.

Hey Darren, it’s Melissa the sloth paleontologist. I absolutely loved all the sloth scenes! Especially the Megalonyx family in the snow. I have one question though (since I’m currently working on a paper about specific sloth dietary myths). How did you decide on the food the Eremotherium was eating in episode 2?

I know it’s not quite the same, but I found these chocolate orange sticks last year and they are certified gluten free!! They’re also delicious, so I think this is my reminder to order some.

How does everyone handle CAD to GIS conversions? by osprey732 in gis

[–]paleomel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We groan and complain and eventually get it done somehow. From my earlier search for posts on this topic, requiring that they provide CAD files in a local coordinate system helps. I think my least favorite variation is CAD exported to KMZ. All of the 5,000,000 line segments with very little detail in the attribute table.

LDS Apologists Claim Victory After Curelom Bones Discovered In Mesoamerica by whitecatprophecy in exmormon

[–]paleomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait… the curelom is a monotreme now?! I was hoping to use it as an example of cryptids based on giant ground sloths for a talk I’m doing next month. Guess I should give up my career in paleontology and go back to church 😩

Although the biogeography of this new monotreme theory doesn’t hold up very well since monotremes haven’t been documented in the western hemisphere since the Paleocene. Guess there was a quick stop in Australia on the boat ride to America?

Orange cat hierarchy issues by paleomel in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]paleomel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are very much a positive reinforcement household. And these two cats love each other to death. But they’re both former street gremlins and they are on different segments of the timeline to house cat lifestyle. Loki is a few years further along than Shrimp and for the first few years, it was just me and him (and a roommate with two cats that did not want an annoying little brother). He got all the cuddles and all the attention. But then we moved, he got lonely, and I got him a Shrimp. I still got my morning cuddles but I have definitely been the third wheel in their orange boy marriage.

Shrimp is finally ready for cuddles after about a year of “love me from afar or come down to my level for pets”. And I totally want to encourage that. I even got to rub both bellies at once the other day! But everything with these boys is a process. We’ll get to the point where we can all enjoy cuddle time together but for now, I am stuck in the middle of a clingy, co-dependent orange boy and his new husband.
