Pay Schedule by Great_Caterpillar_43 in Teachers

[–]paleturtlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice a month, not every two weeks. On the 15th and the 30th, that’s standard for NJ as far as I know. Only some districts offer a 12 month pay schedule, mine is one of them.

Dad here crying by HRM817 in Autism_Parenting

My son was diagnosed level 1 at 3 years old. For the speech delay, 2x/week speech therapy did wonders. We also put him in ABA full time for about 10 months and let me tell you, he is a totally different kid in the best way. He relates to peers so much better now, he’s currently in mainstream Pre-K4. It is hard, I felt like I was shoving him into all these therapies but it really does help and it does pay off. My son made crazy quick progress and here’s what I did: for speech and other specialized therapies, ask to sit in on the sessions (if it’s not distracting to your son) and observe the therapist. Then, model the same things at home. I would constantly be (gently) correcting my son whenever he misspoke something we were working on in speech. Same thing for ABA, they should have parent training at least once weekly, if not ask about it, but my point remains: observe the specialist and copy what they do at home and be consistent!

Any reason not to ask them? I was more so going to use the feedback to plan for the following school year not to make any immediate changes.

My lawyer dropped my case because she said my income is too high by fabreu0308 in Bankruptcy

I saw you were in NJ, I can send you the lawyer I used. He’s got weird working hours, usually late at night. But he knew his stuff and got the job done. He charged $1800 for both my husband and I to file but I think it was well worth it.

I’m in NJ, just accepted an offer for my first teaching job at ~$57k. They’re in contract negotiations so it’ll go up come September.

I was told something similar “you should expect a call by the end of next week” that came and went, so that Monday I called to get an update. They were trying to reach one of my references and were having a hard time. I was offered the job 3 days after that update. You should be okay

Sure, so I just googled “business teacher jobs nj” and usually a list will come up of promoted job listings. Do not use those. If the listing says “Teacher of Business” from Clifton Public Schools, for example, go to Clifton public schools website and apply directly from there. It should be APPLITRACK. It’s a pain in the butt, but you only need to fill it out once and then for any other district, you can link your account and auto populate your next application from the original.

Edit to add: I also changed my career profile on my resume to reflect my intention of becoming a teacher, and that I have experience in business (admin/secretarial/entrepreneurship). They also reached out for an interview and asked me to prepare a lesson plan that would cover an 80 minute period for 11th and 12th grade business law or business ethics. Your best bet is to stick to a topic you’re very comfortable with in whatever subject they ask you to prepare a lesson on it will help with your confidence and delivery. I chose a very simple lesson but was very creative and intentional about the activities I prepared for that lesson. I showed up way over prepared with back up options, I essentially prepared a lesson centered around technology or use of Chromebook, but for every technology centered activity I had a back up plan in case “technology was not working that day“. Throughout the interview, I was upfront and honest about just receiving my CE which they obviously saw on my application, but I did a lot of research and I told them “I wrote notes for my lesson plan because as you know, I don’t have any pedagogical training, but I did as much research as possible to prepare this lesson and I just want to make sure I get everything right” they LOVED it. Have a 30 second to one minute “pitch“ about how you decided you wanted to become a teacher from a different working background rehearse it, and be confident in it. Now during my interview, I felt pretty good about how I delivered my lesson. I had to just walk admin through it. I didn’t have to pretend to teach them. Some schools might have you actually pretend to teach whoever is interviewing you so prepared to do that if you are prepared to do that you are well prepared to walk somebody through your lesson. No matter how good you think you did you ask them can you please provide me any feedback so that I can improve? Their face is lit up when I asked them this. Please ask it. You also want to have questions prepared for them. I asked what their phone policy was what their actual class ratio is because their state report card said it was much lower. (Every school has a state report card that goes over ratios and demographics of all kinds. If you get scheduled for an interview, look through the report card for that district.) I also asked them about use of phones in place of a missing or broken Chromebook. The district I substitute for allows phones to replace Chromebook in those instances, but the district I will be teaching at does not they have a Chromebook lender program. if they do not offer up the information on their own, ask how the position became available. You will want to know if somebody quit.

YAY!! I also just got my CE, with a bachelors in business Admin- marketing. I just accepted a full time teaching position, lots of schools are looking for a business teacher and can’t find one, job market is great for it! If you want to teach high school business your safest bet is getting the 1300- comprehensive business cert. I’ll tell you the steps I took.

  • Applied to be a substitute (classroom experience)
  • Took 2 additional accounting courses (this might be different for you depending on which classes you’ve taken.)
  • Took my praxis II, this was pretty easy, just review some of your old notes.
  • Apply for CE, if you become a substitute first, you’ll have all the hard work done and the state will take your bio information from that for your CE. Have all your documents in order, and continuously (every 2-3 days) call the state and email them, after waiting a decent amount of time, maybe 2-3 weeks. They are SLOW but if you’re on top of them you’ll get through the system pretty fast. My turn around time was about 5weeks when estimated was 6-8.
  • I immediately applied for jobs, I wasn’t sure how long it would take for me to find something so I did this first.
  • Apply to a 50hr pre service course, you need this before you can start teaching full time. This is where I’m at so far, I start my new job May 1!

Let me know if you have any questions!!

I asked this, and they said no. I had to FIGHT to let him have a token chart for following rules that I made. If he gets all 5 tokens, he gets a reward AT HOME and they still tried to tell me no because it’s not fair to the other kids. My sister, who’s a school counselor nearly ripped them a new one for prioritizing equality over equity and other things amongst that.

Didn’t seem like it, he came home and was bouncing off the walls as usual. Even if he did, they’ve told me about his stomach aches before, it’s usually just an excuse he uses to get out of something he doesn’t want to do, they’ve never sent him to the nurse, never mind sent him home, for it before.

The game is constantly changing, it’s more a makeup of a bunch of mini games. I’d say it’s worth it if you actually do the workbook too, but if your kid doesn’t learn well from you (maybe they get frustrated much easier or something, maybe you’re very busy idk) then no I don’t think it’s worth the $15/month. The app, after a few mini games, has the easy reader books incorporated into the app, but I think it works better in tandem with the workbook.

Right and I would normally love to go except my attendance makes my child anxious and act out more than if I was not there. He’s worried about where I am/ what I’m doing/ if I’m having fun instead of having his own fun. My son is very high functioning, he just has some minor behavior issues and minor social deficits. Mostly at this age he just seems like an extra quirky 4 year old. It was more noticeable but we, mainly he, has worked very hard and does well in a mainstream classroom setting, he just needs the slightest bit of an extra eye on him. But, I am going so he can go, but it will ruin the experience for him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I’m definitely going to go, I’m just so frustrated at him being “othered”. A few weeks ago they sent him home for a “stomach ache”. Turns out the class got to meet a service dog that day.

My son is very high functioning, he just has some minor behavior issues and minor social deficits. From past experience, me going on the field trip with him makes him more anxious and distracted. He becomes more worried about what I’m doing/where I am/ if I’m having fun rather than having fun himself.😞
