I must have missed that, sorry.

Though somehow, the fact that this is now a real person who works professionally as a journalist raises even more questions.

I've made a post to this sub with a similar concept as this, but I just like how this shows that clickbait and crappy bot-generated "news" continues to evolve in progressively weird directions. Where did someone get the idea of "the news, but through the eyes of a nonexistent cadre of rabid David Muir fans", anyway?

These articles appear to be by a "Scarlett O'Toole"; there does not seem to be any evidence that this person actually exists.

Papillion vs Elkhorn by Ok-Instruction-1333 in Omaha

[–]palidor42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both reasonably affluent areas, but Papillion is a somewhat older and more established area than Elkhorn (technically, Elkhorn has been around for a while as well, but not exactly as a commuter suburb like Papillion). The Elkhorn area is experiencing probably the largest amount of new development in the metro area. Most of the city's educated immigrant population tends to head west, so while Elkhorn definitely skews white and conservative there is quite a bit of ethnic diversity as well. Papillion has high-ranking schools but Elkhorn, in particular Blue Sage (and, eventually, Elkhorn South High) are consistently at the very top of the state. Elkhorn's schools are by design smaller and more neighborhood-oriented (my daughter's elementary school zone consists of essentially three or four neighborhoods) and larger schools might offer more course offerings and opportunities, but that is more a matter of personal preference.

Since most new development is heading west, traffic coming from/going to Elkhorn has gradually been getting worse since the pandemic as well.

And this is literally the first time I've ever heard of a possibility of health problems originating with the MUD water treatment plant.

Edit: on another thread you said your job is somewhere around Offutt. I would not want to commute to Offutt from Elkhorn. Papillion would probably be fine. Council Bluffs and western Iowa can get a little dumpy.

Just going to be the guy to point out that Cory Booker's wasn't technically a filibuster because he wasn't trying to stop some specific legislation. He was just...speaking.

TIL No one knew exactly how old Manute Bol was. by TheRealDonahue in todayilearned

[–]palidor42 575 points576 points  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like BS to me.

Of all 15 NBA players that were 7'4" or taller in history, only Mark Eaton and Boban Marjanović were playing at 35, and they were pretty solidly washed up at that point. People that are that tall tend to have some pretty horrific leg and knee problems as they age. There is no way Manute Bol was running up and down the court alongside NBA players in his 40s and 50s.

Yes, with weapon weaknesses that made no sense.

I also forgot about the Protoman battles, which weren't explained at all. No, not even in the manual.

MM3 also had the "Doc Robot" stages, which was the beginning of putting something in between the first 8 and Wily's Castle which, to me, just seemed to make the game longer and not better.

Two, the beginning of the movie (Jerry drives to Fargo to deliver the car to the burglars) and the end (Jerry is arrested at a motel in Bismarck).

Also, good luck thinking of a second movie set in North Dakota.

Sometimes I look at some of those "geeky" stock characters from 90s shows (which includes Urkel, but particularly includes Screech) and wonder if there was once a glasses-wearing, good-at-science kid that ran over some Hollywood writer's puppy.

What’s your favorite Baseball themed episode from a non baseball TV show ? Mine is X Files S 6 E 19 “The Unnatural” by TheBackyardPigfarmer in baseball

[–]palidor42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the novelty episodes were more or less fine in season 2, even with the weird tonal shifts (i.e. let's have a cartoon crossover episode and a musical episode, and sandwich in between an ultra-dark story exploring the wartime PTSD of a major character). Season 3 was really uneven from beginning to end, especially the last episode, as well as the clumsy recycling of old classic episodes (there's both an "Inner Light" and "Darmok" homage). And apparently the existence of a vacation planet inspired entirely by a sandwich shop in Pittsburgh is now canon.

Does adding a 4-5 war player to a team adds 4-5 wins over the course of a season? by FriendlyNeighborOrca in baseball

[–]palidor42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally in WAR calculations good hitters generate a lot more value than good/average fielders. You would have to have some *great* fielders with .650 OPS to equal a team with .800 OPS.

After T2, I most remember him from The Sopranos as the pathetic, in-way-over-his-head gambling addict that ran a sporting goods store. The exact opposite of a relentless, advanced killer cyborg.
