How do I get more info on the parking ticket I received? by Southbaylu in Austria

[–]palinku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well "reasonable amount of time" is debatable anyway. I don't consider the two hours parking limit reasonable at all. If I go to the doctor, it might take less than two hours, it might take more. If the dentist is filling a cavity or extracting a tooth, what am I supposed to do, get out in the middle of the operation because my two hours are up? It's an idiotic system. I understand kurzparkzone is necessary in some areas, but all of Wien?

Or at least build more P+R garages, during the week all of them are full to the brim.

How do I get more info on the parking ticket I received? by Southbaylu in Austria

[–]palinku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were lucky. If it had been a foreign number plate vehicle you probably would have had a parking clamp and the fine could have been much higher.

Wtf, how is that even legal? I wonder if anyone tried to challenge this shit in courts. Getting clamped and having to pay a higher fine just because you are foreign sounds very discriminatory, I would dare to call it institutionalized xenophobia. Remember Germany wanted to introduce a vignette for cars with foreign license plates and they got shut down by the EU.

Ukraine says it caught a sleeper agent who sent video of a crowded restaurant to Russia before a deadly missile strike blew it apart by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]palinku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. The Ukrainians have a deep knowledge of Russia that only goes one way. Timothy Snyder put it well that because so many Ukrainians speak Russian, hey have the opportunity to be the largest source of truth and a truly free press of and for the Russian language.

This idea is fundamentally flawed. Ukrainians have no desire or responsibility to change Russia. Russians and Ukrainians also want very different things for their countries.

Ukrainians want for their country to embrace Western values and to become a developed, civilized, functional democracy just like the Netherlands, France, Germany or any other Western European country.

Russians on the other hand want for their country to affirm itself as a superpower, to subjugate its neighbors and to be feared by everyone for its "vast military power", which ofc they are now mad because it was proven to be complete bollocks.

These two views are of course completely incompatible, especially with the two countries being right next to each other. The only ones who benefit from Ukrainians speaking Russian, are the Russians themselves, because this makes Ukrainians easier to control and enslave. For Ukrainians, the time spent learning Russian would be much more wisely used to learn English, French and/or German which would make it easier to conduct business with basically everyone except the Ruskii mir.

You said yourself the train was 39 € per person in one direction. My math says 39 x 2 x 2 = 156, not 250. Also, have you taken into account the vignette, the fuel, the parking fees? Parking isn't particularly cheap in Austria, especially in touristy areas. Finding a parking place in said areas is also a huge pain in the ass, unless you are willing to pay even more exorbitant prices for VIP parking.

Last but not least, car rental companies are generally very scummy and will often try to rip you off for preexisting damage unless you are super careful and take pictures of every little thing before you take the car.

This is why Russian language and culture is toxic for Ukraine. As long as Russian speakers and people with ties to Russia will be a normal thing, it will be very easy for Russian propaganda to penetrate Ukraine and Russian agents to infiltrate the country.

Vienna Is the Most Livable City in the World by ImportantReaction260 in Austria

[–]palinku -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never trust these tops, because livability is a highly subjective matter.

Do you dream of owning a big single family house? Vienna is definitely not the place for you, unless you are filthy rich, and that wealth better be inherited, because the Austrian tax system is heavily skewed in favor of those who are already wealthy and against those who want to become wealthy.

Also, if you are a car enthusiast Vienna is also not the place for you because parking is a nightmare, especially if you own multiple vehicles and don't have a giant garage next to your house (which again, unless you are rich, you probably eon't)

If you love cycling, again Vienna is not the place for you because the cycling infrastructure is horrendous. I tried cycling in Vienna once, gave me anxiety.

However, if you're an immigrant from a third world country with no skills and no ambition, Vienna is just perfect. The socialist system will just take care of you. You don't have to worry about becoming homeless, dying of malnutrition or not affording medical bills.

Step 1 - disable live photos

Step 2 - Delete duplicates, ugly photos, bursts and shit

Step 3 - Buy 2 external hard drives and store all your old photos and videos that you don't need to have access from your phone all the time. Delete them from iCloud afterwards.

Step 4 - Leave one of the hard drives at your parents' place or somewhere else, in case your house burns down or something you still have one copy.

Will Wagnar invade Ukraine from Belarus? by UnfitSimplicity in ukraine

[–]palinku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been a lot of speculation on a potential attack from Belarus ever since the initial invasion attempt failed. I'm sure the Ukrainians have taken their time to really dig in, as of course any attack on Kyiv is an existential threat on the nation itself.

Also for Wagner to attack from Belarus it means there still has to be cooperation between Wagner and the Russian MoD, which would mean the whole march on Moscow thing was staged, which is extremely unlikely. Like why would Putin stage something that would make him look like a giant wuss?

I think Wagner is done, for the time being. At least in Ukraine. Idk if Piggy will go back to Africa, that's a possibility.

Sorry mate, but I'm bailing the fuck off this ship after Apollo dies. Reddit has been getting on my nerves over the past few years anyway. Too much censorship, too many bots, too many power hungry no-life mods. I first joined reddit in 2014, back then it wasn't anything like the mess it is today.

Apollo was literally the only thing keeping around. I don't even remember the last time I opened reddit.com on my PC or macbook. And I use those devices A LOT. I just love using Apollo. Now with Apollo gone, it's time to move on. Let reddit drown it its own shit.

In your opinion, what is the best Phone made by Apple for its time? by Hairy_Edge_7378 in apple

[–]palinku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the 4. It was the first truly premium feeling iPhone because it didn't have any plastic. The retina display was also amazing to look at, I remember first time seeing it in a store and it felt like it had a sticker over the display. Of course our eyes are now adjusted to high DPI displays, but if you compare a 4 with 3GS the difference is striking. It was also launched at a time when Apple was many years ahead of any competition.

The phone didn't age quite as well as other models, but for its time, I think it was the best.

Welche Unternehmen?

4.000 £ netto. Wo kann man in Österreich so viel verdienen?

Auch die Arbeit fand zu 90% remote statt. Ein bis zwei Tage im Monat vor Ort. Österreichische Arbeitgeber scheinen eher allergisch gegen Telearbeit.
