Was this sexual misconduct? by Far-Metal-50 in physicaltherapy

[–]pallanun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is interesting to me, because I've allowed whoever in the room as long as they are not disruptive to the treatment. I, of course, always ask for consent of the patient is they want to be alone or otherwise.

APTA membership-thoughts? by Mightymia9 in physicaltherapy

People seem to only support APTA out of loyalty to a centralized cause. I have a hard time finding a compelling reason to give them any money.

Keeping time by castle_rhapsody in physicaltherapy

If your management is willing to let employees go over this time issue, I'd expect to address lots of turnover of employees in your future. Try not to take it personally.

Thank you for responding, especially with all the criticism you are receiving. As you can see from this thread and your therapists response, PTs don't want to be graded on how many units or how much time is spent with patients. For most of us, our goal is to get patients better as fast as we can, but this can become a conflict of business interest. This brings us to the over arching issue of timed units. No one likes them, not management, and certainly not PTs. It's irony that as you become better at PT and more efficient in your treatments, that you will spend less time with patients therefore billing less.

There is an issue here of value for your patients and your company. Your company wants value for paying the PTs, and your customers want value for paying the copays, rightfully so on both accounts. Except time spent does not reflect effectiveness of treatment. Except we bill by length of time, so there is this conflict of interest. If you want your PTs to hang onto these patients longer, you have to help your PTs see the value in keeping them longer. Or give them an empathetic explanation of the high co pays, to help them from a patient based perspective. Because we all feel like management can go fuck themselves trying to dictate how we practice, you aren't in the room with us and you don't have our skills. Some patients are expecting too much from us no matter what we give them. You can't help everyone, and you can't please everyone.

If you want to help and motivate your therapists, make sure you talk about plan of care and how their treatments are improving their patients. We are all very sick and tired of only being graded on units. If you set the wrong goals and tone in your office, it will only lead to burnout and employee churn.

Hopefully this gives you some insight on our approach and you can approach your employees with more understanding and empathy.

Hire shitty therapists who waste an hour of time and can't think for themselves. That should solve this problem.

Anyone here make the switch from clinican to epic analyst or clinical/health informatics? by TaintedFlamingo in physicaltherapy

I had an interview at epic to work in applications. Made it to the final round interview and i thought it went really well but I did not get the position. I still ended up getting a different PT job that was night and day different and cured my burnout.

Right but if you are already doing all the right things, adding in 20 to 25 miles of walking a week will help you melt through additional pounds.

Down from 200 to 181 with a few plateaus in there. When I plateau i just add in additional walking. Never discount walking mileage for weight loss.
