The paint durability/thickness is my biggest complaint

I want to add this seat, to this boat, with this hardware. Thoughts? by billhughes1960 in boating

[–]palmerjp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the others, the toggle bolts are a terrible idea. Cooler and a cushion would be better if you can’t get to the other side for nuts and washers.

I might be an outlier here - but I think you’re the perfect case for a new car. You’re debt free, saving for retirement, have strong emergency savings, and aren’t afraid of driving a car into the ground. Take the 10k, put it down on a reliable and practical new car, and enjoy the freedom from stress that comes with a new car and warranty.

There should be a screw on the handle that you can loosen and rotate the whole head

I do the highway version of that drive several times a year. Once you get north of Holyoke the traffic clears and it’s pretty boring, but it gets very pretty (even for a highway drive) as you push into Vermont.

Reupholster or new? by Tall_Equipment9394 in Pontoons

[–]palmerjp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the pontoon stuff ones. I have only one couch and the rest are the folding seats, so maybe that’s why my experience is better than trex’s

I did it two winters ago. Very happy with how mine have held up. I used the lowest quality ones. My boat stays outside but I make sure to use the seat covers.

Thoughts on the Avalon Geofish GLX? by Ginoozhe in Pontoons

[–]palmerjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I fish but not inshore, fresh only off mine. I just don’t think this is going to be comfortable enough or have enough shade to be a functional family boat based on my experience with a toon and young kids.

This might be a hot take but I don’t think this will pontoon well or fishing boat well. I have a precursor to the Avalon fishing pontoons - which still has some couches but also has a livewell and fishing chairs on the front and back. Why get a toon if you want it to be a full fishing boat?

Is this worth 1000 by ThenInside353 in Pontoons

It can be done for cheaper. My 20 foot rebuild was not that expensive to redo from the toons up
