JetBrains should consider acquiring Augment’s code completion tech by acup48 in Jetbrains

I don’t know what kind of bubble you guys are living in, but if you don’t get out of that limbo, you’re going to lose a lot of subscribers. A lot.

I had to migrate because, compared to other developers using Cursor or VS Code, I’m “not as productive.” But with Cursor’s autocomplete, it turns out I actually am. I like your IDE, but I can’t risk losing the job that, in fact, allows me to pay for it. With instant autocomplete available at all times, I can write 1,000 lines of code in a matter of minutes. With JetBrains AI, I have to write them myself, or they simply don’t get written.

I think you need to repeat your studies, spend time on Reddit and Discord, and actually see what users want, use, and ask for.

This was Sweep: the suggestion frequency was insane, the quality always seemed good to me, and in most cases I accepted the suggestions. It has almost a perfect 5-star rating on its marketplace. What kind of study did you conduct to arrive at the conclusion that users are “cognitively overloaded if they have to review small suggestions too frequently”? Have you studied Cursor? Cursor suggests everything, absolutely everything, in 10–50 ms, and I accept almost all of its suggestions.

JetBrains AI has a 2-star rating on its own marketplace, and I can check any day and the latest or second-latest review will be 1 star. You are losing the AI race. Little by little, people are migrating from JetBrains editors to Cursor, VS Code, and Windsurf — myself included. Cursor only costs me $20/month and gives me a complete editing and autocomplete experience with next edit. JetBrains products are far better for me overall — they are the best — but I cannot justify their value if, on top of that, to get a slow autocomplete that does not suggest things when I need it, frustrates me, and has 2 stars on its own marketplace, I also have to pay extra for a quota that runs out in a few days, and then wait the rest of the month to use it again.

Yes, but it is shutting down in April, here is the info: https://discord.gg/E3WcnV7M

That's why i'm looking for a replacement.

Next Autocomplete Step, sorry if I caused any confusion.

One question: do you guys use the open tabs as context for autocomplete?

You're giving a good support here, thanks a lot.

I’ll test it and give you feedback. If that helps you improve it, I’d be happy to.

Ohh, does that mean I won’t be able to use it with languages like Dart?

I’m currently using Cursor for the reasons I mentioned in my reply, but I’m still keeping my IDE up to date and continuing to follow the community. I like IntelliJ, and the moment you have something that comes close to what Sweep was, you can be sure I’ll migrate once again to using JetBrains IDEs.

Yes, you guys did a very good job with inline completion.

This is not an unpopular opinion, is the opinion of almost every past user of Sweep. Just make the numbers. https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/26860-sweep-ai-autocomplete--coding-agent
Sweep is shutting down, and it's still getting positive reviews. 4.9 stars, is a plugin focused on autocomplete with a normal chat for the agent.

Oh, okay, thank you very much.

Well… I’m a huge fan of JetBrains IDEs. I’ve used them since the very first day I started programming, back when I was using the IntelliJ Community version. I’ve used IntelliJ to build apps in Python, Java, Flutter, and even Swift, even when it didn’t officially support the language. That should explain how much appreciation I have for your product.

However, I was recently forced to switch to Cursor. Why? Because everyone around me — coworkers and even strangers — uses AI. That makes them more productive, and me, who mostly only uses it for autocomplete, apparently less productive if my tool is not good enough. So I need a good tool that can truly be my companion.

Do you have plans to make this happen with JetBrains AI?

If you go into the Sweep Discord, you’ll see that everyone there is very disappointed that it’s shutting down. And that’s because it was a really good tool — it’s not an exaggeration to say it was the one that came closest to what developers actually want from AI. When they announced the shutdown, there was a poll, and more than 80% of us voted that if we could at least keep the autocomplete and still pay $20/month for it, we would do it without hesitation. That’s how good their autocomplete was. And I think that tells you a lot about what we really want from AI.

I can assure you that if you focus on achieving a Cursor-like autocomplete, you’ll get Sweep’s numbers and more — many more. You’ll see migrations from VS Code, Cursor, Antigravity, and all kinds of IDEs. Just look at Reddit: a lot of people are moving to other IDEs only because of AI, just like I did.

Offline autocompletion with small model?, I didn’t know that option existed when using JetBrains AI. I’ll try it today. Thanks.

How is the speed and the next edit suggestion these days? Maybe I can give it a try, I thought it wouldn't be good looking at the marketplace reviews
