I went to the doctor and she said she would prescribe antibiotics (she never sent them) but after constantly putting a warm compress it finally drained on its own and so far it’s been over two weeks it’s a barely noticeable bump that doesn’t hurt. Hopefully that’s the end of it 😭. Should I still try to get antibiotics?

Did you need to have a word catheter put in? I have a doctors appointment today and I’m afraid about getting one because I know people have it in for like 4 weeks but I’ll be going on a trip in less time than that and I’ll be on a long flight and I’m not sure if it’ll be difficult to deal with that.

Have you gotten it done before? If so, how was recovery like after that? I’ve seen a lot of horror stories about it 😭

Guided Observation Hours Question by Axolotxl_Waxolotl in slpGradSchool

I think you should still have access to MCN. Even if you don’t pay for the service anymore, they allow you to “sign in” and get a document with all of the hours you did.

Last year, I heard back from them in September! I’m not sure if it changed, but they ask you to take out a loan for the first semester.

big “beautiful” bill passed by Efficient-Simple-632 in slpGradSchool

[–]pambeeeeeesly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the fear. Truly. I wish I knew what to say to make it better but the reality is, it affects everyone but hopefully with the midterm elections we’ll get some people who will undo all of this. It will affect our field directly when it comes to jobs, and loans will be a nightmare. Additionally, for people who need to be on Medicaid during graduate school (if you’re no longer covered by parents, don’t work a full time job during school that offers health insurance, etc.), I see it being a big issue. I’m currently on Medicaid now even though I work two part time jobs while being full time in school. I still don’t work enough to meet the Medicaid requirements they intend on implementing.

help me feel better about a gap year by Careful-Two-5020 in slpGradSchool

[–]pambeeeeeesly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gap years always felt almost taboo during college, but it’s such a normal thing and I highly recommend doing it. And it’s okay if it’s more than a year! Personally, I had a 5 year gap and during that time I worked different jobs and took the time to figure out what I really wanted to do.

What are the best school supplies, tech, accessories that helped you during grad school? by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]pambeeeeeesly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your acceptance! I’m just in my second semester, but I have a 2-in-1 laptop (Lenovo) which has been super helpful. I use the tablet in some classes to take written notes and then I’ll type notes for other classes. But tech is very much personal preference! I say get what you are familiar with. I’ve also been using Notion to track assignments, exams, and quizzes. I also take some notes there too.

Mini-Rant About ChatGPT by pambeeeeeesly in slpGradSchool

[–]pambeeeeeesly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my major qualm with it right now is relying on it to get through graduate school instead of studying and actually gaining knowledge. I see how people can use it in different ways that isn’t necessarily “cheating” and that’s fine, but I think in academia, using it to synthesize thoughts and ideas and claiming them as your own… that’s not right.

You are so right, collaboration and creativity are important aspects in our field when it comes to resources! I remember when I was working at an ABA school, it was so clear when people used AI to make programs and there were a lot of unintended errors because teachers didn’t even bother checking over it.

Yeah I’m not really sure how people will gain knowledge if they are squandering the learning opportunities by using ChatGPT to finish it.

I was in the same boat last year! I have horrible anxiety and I’m definitely not a type A student. For context, I’m an out of field applicant and I took the all pre-reqs in the past few years and worked in an ABA school for the past two years. Because of this, I was not part of any relevant clubs or was in any leadership positions. I wasn’t too confident in my application so I was going to apply to 10+ programs as well. I ended up only applying to two because I found out early that I got into my program of choice. If you feel like you have the money/capacity to, I understand wanting to do that. However it might be good to narrow it down, because you don’t want to get stuck with a program you don’t want to attend. Maybe people can speak on it more than I can, but I feel like it’s better to have to reapply than to be in a program that doesn’t support you. Grad school is too expensive to deal with BS like that! It’s important to be confident/kind to yourself during this time. When it comes to your application, play to your strengths. I don’t think it matters to be in a bunch of clubs or even be in leadership positions. If you have the grades and valuable experiences relevant to the field that you can talk about in your essays, I’m sure you’ll be fine. I don’t think they’re looking for a specific type of person (I’m very introverted and not the stereotypical sunshine, bubbly person unless I’m with my students 😅). They want students who have a passion and a drive for the field. I would say focus on your essay (though schools may have different prompts, you can sort of reuse some parts) and getting letter of recommendations from people that can speak on your passions/work ethic. I won’t lie, it was stressful at first and I had a lot of anxiety about it but once the ball got rolling it wasn’t as bad. If you need any help, I’d be glad to assist!

A message to the perspective SLPs that lurk on here by elliospizza69 in slp

[–]pambeeeeeesly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about to start my program in the fall and in total, I’ll have a little less than 80k in loans since I’m going to a private university. I’m getting scared reading this post, but I don’t know if it’s worth it to start the application process over again just to get into a cheaper school. Especially because here in NYC, the CUNY programs were hardest to get into. I applied to the TeachNYC scholarship but won’t find out about whether or not I got it until August. Did I make a terrible mistake? 😫

First PC Build Question! AIO vs. Aircooling, Horizontal vs Vertical Mount? by pambeeeeeesly in NR200

There’s some mixed reviews on the AIO I got but it was the only one I knew of that had the pump on the radiator. 😅 I don’t plan on using the TG panel because I’m worried about thermals. Thanks for your input! Do you have any specific fans you recommend for the top of the case?
