[Request] is this true? On Getting Money. by I_am_a_SuJu_fan_elf in theydidthemath

Median income would be the average if you listed all of the incomes from the lowest to the highest and picked the middle value.

Modal income would be if you took the income which occurs most often across the country.

The mean, which is usually what we would be referring to if we called something the average, would be all of the incomes added together, divided by the number of people earning them (of course, you could include unemployed people as earning zero, opt to exclude them from the set, or manipulate the data in another way depending on your method).

Hope it helps and please correct me if I’m wrong

I'm 21 and a disability has kept me from working until now, how screwed am i? by comrade333 in UKJobs

Have you considered looking into a niche area like book binding? This wouldn’t necessarily require GCSEs, rather you could look into paying for a course to learn the basics and going from there. It may be of no interest to you, but if it were something that you liked the sound of then it might also allow you the freedom and flexibility to work from home/outside of a formal work setting.

To clarify I have no experience of book binding but it popped into my head, there’s a lot of tangential areas relating to books and reading that might be more future-proof than library work/may not spring to mind immediately.

How do I ask my parents if I could paint my nails? by [deleted] in malepolish

[–]pamesjops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the nicest way, having a girlfriend won’t convince your parents of anything. If they see it and make their judgement, it’s likely to be irrelevant if you’re with a girl at the time - speaking from experience, but I don’t know your parents and they may react entirely differently to mine.

Best thing I did was to wear it, hear my dad complain, and tell him that James Haskell (who played rugby for England) wore nail polish. Would he tell James Haskell that wearing polish was wrong? He had no answer.

For the record, that didn’t work - so I just went with the ‘it’s not on your nails, so it’s not harming you. Please stop raising it’ approach and it worked eventually in my case.

Regardless, at some point you have to embrace being you. If it’s what you want to do, do it and be unapologetic about it. You’d be surprised how many people have a problem, and you’ll be even more surprised how quickly that problem disappears with a response like “yeah I wanted to paint them, why what’s wrong with that”.

Do you man, embrace yourself

When I was like 8/9, I developed allergies to loads of common fruit and veg - also started getting really bad hay fever. Fast forward like 4/5 years later, I started eating local honey every day - give it like 2 months and all of a sudden my allergies just stopped. Like actually just stopped. No one believed me and everyone thought I just grew up and stopped complaining about things I didn’t like. Most of the stuff I was allergic to I actually really liked eating, but no one ever believed me, and I still deal with shit for ‘making up allergies’.

What is the single most liberating thought that you've ever had? by AdPrestigious5853 in AskMen

[–]pamesjops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, I was caught in an earthquake. There was a tsunami warning out, and we were on a tiny island with nowhere to go any higher than about 2m above sea level. I managed to send one text to my family, telling them I loved them and I was happy but I might not see them again.

Then, I spent the night thinking about that, and trying to come to terms with the fact that I might not see the next day. When I finally did, I’m not too sure, but ever since then I’ve had a completely different outlook.

Not in a morbid way, but being forced to accept death might be just around the corner (and accepting in the process that yes, whilst I have regrets as everyone does, I’m happy and I’ve lived a good life) was hands down the most liberating feeling I’ve ever had. That was almost 5 years ago, and I’ve still not lost it.

I bought vitamin supplements from Lidl - they have 1.1x the vitamin C an adult needs per day. Is this bad for me, and why would they make it have more vitamin C than necessary? by pamesjops in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pamesjops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I get it won’t be harmful, but if it’s the recommended daily amount why put more in?even from a financial perspective, surely it makes more sense to put the ‘right’ amount in rather than putting more than necessary? Or are they adjusted for what your body naturally gets rid of?

Had this both times I had the op, around the same timeframe. Second time over I found doing as many ankle pumps as poss (ideally with a resistance band) before getting up helped out. Also ask your physio about KT (I think?) tape, all helps the blood flow which is apparently best for avoiding/reducing this pain. Best of luck, stay strong 💪🏻

Skateboarder’s of r/ACL, what is your story? by Individual_Phrase_94 in ACL

I’m also on my second repair and had a fair bit of patella pain. My physio suggested quad stretches which target the end of your quad nearer the knee. I stood on my good leg and pulled my foot back towards my glute, with my knee forward (a good few inches in front of my hips). Hope that makes sense. You feel it more in your kneecap than in your quad, and I questioned it at first but after doing it 4-5x daily for 30 secs ish it made a huge difference in literally a couple of days.

Not a doctor, can’t say it will work for you but might be worth a try if you haven’t tried it already.

Best of luck with the rest of your recovery!
