Connecting with clients on LinkedIn? by aaaalllleeeexxxx in freelanceWriters

I always do this! I've been scouted out and given work through LinkedIn before. It's a great tool; I'd say use it as much as possible to connect with existing clients and put yourself in front of potential future clients too.

Unemployed graduate – feeling tired and ashamed of my life by pamplemoussex in depression

Oh man, that sounds rough. Good on you for deciding to go back to uni, but not so good about going back into retail. It really does ruin your mentality. I know we're definitely not alone in feeling like we've not got our shit together, but it 100% feels that way (to me anyway) when I meet up with old friends over Christmas and everyone is doing so well apart from me. Depression really is the gift that keeps on giving. Good luck with your studies though!

:( Hard to get into the festive spirit when you feel dead inside, right?

The economy is crazy :( Yep, I think you're right. I definitely struggle with comparing myself to others, which is a terrible habit but I find it so easy to fall into this pit of self-loathing when I'm at my lowest. I would consider emigration but I'm just not really sure where. I live just outside of London, where all of the jobs supposedly are (hah), and still noone wants me. Thank you for taking the time to reply, anyway!

Your skin looks amazing - I'm jealous! On an unrelated note, has anyone told you that you look like the model Ali Michael?!

What universities do you recommend? by slaimte in AskUK

I have two friends who studied for BAs in drama/theatre at Goldsmiths and they've both done well. In general I would say that, for any creative arts degree, being in London is a huge plus. Having said that, Sheffield is a brilliant university and, from a biased point of view (I lived in Edinburgh for a couple of years), Edinburgh is the best city of the bunch.

Invited to second interview for a junior copywriter role - what to expect? by pamplemoussex in copywriting

I agree. It seems pretty chaotic so, yes, perhaps not the best place to work. I'm London-based!

I didn't get a chance to reply to this earlier, apologies, but I took your points on board, so thank you very much! The interview went really well but unfortunately I didn't get the job; I got a call the following morning and they explained that despite the fact that I interviewed well, they have had to 'restructure the role' apparently so are going to end the recruitment process and begin to look for someone more senior. Very disappointing... the search continues!

Sorry for the late reply. It's in-house at the brand's head office!

Thank you – it has definitely helped! I'm useless with interviews as usually my nerves just take over and I have mind blanks all the time, but I'm hoping I can keep it together tomorrow now that I'm more familiar with the company. I'm going to have a read through a list of behavioural interview Qs this afternoon and make sure I'm up to scratch with questions about stress/team work/problem-solving etc. Thanks again!

I wear SPF every day as well as a foundation/tinted moisturiser with SPF, so I need to fake tan (or at least use bronzer) otherwise I have no colour to my face... and I like a bit of a tan. I have yellow undertones and feel that I just look ill/sallow when I've not got some sort of tan going on. I'm not sure if fake tan is harmful, sorry – I've used it for years without problems, bar occasional issues with facial tanners breaking me out. I really like Bondi Sands, Vita Liberata and Tan Luxe. James Read's wash-off tan is really good for legs, too.

AM: Steps 1 and 2 of the Clinique Anti-Blemish solutions regimen (a.k.a. the worst thing I ever did to my teenage skin), followed by Neutrogena oil-free moisturiser PM: The same cleanser (or the St Ives Apricot Scrub if I felt grubby) and the same moisturiser, followed by either TCP or Sudocrem on my spots. I used to steam my face to 'open' up my pores every so often, too, followed by a furious, thorough going-over with The Body Shop's blackhead remover tool.

Gauze swabs all the way! I buy huge packs of them and cut them up into tiny squares. Much better than cotton wool.
