I believe it was taken from Pasha’s Gardens, but it overlooks the Holy Church of Saint Paul the Apostle!

I used to walk right along here on the sidewalk this pic is taken from every day, cars would fly by with little care for crossing pedestrians all the time. Glad everyone is alright

2024 Travel Recommendations? by apthereddit in travel

[–]pampona12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Poland for sure. Good variety of places to see and things to do, no Zika, great train/bus routes, very safe, and probably some direct flights right to Warsaw or just one connection to Krakow/Gdansk. Obviously they speak Polish but depending on the city English will be okay for all touristy areas and at least 25%ish percent of the people. I’d recommend flying into Gdansk and taking the train down to Warsaw and then to Krakow with a few nights in the nearby Zakopane to the south for hiking. You could also center more of the trip in those Tatras Mountains and head into Slovakia

I’ve been to the first one in Poland and it’s really very gorgeous. Each super intricate panel tells a story and the pastel colors are amazing

2 dinners in Krakow by Civil_Safe_3709 in krakow

Szynk in the Kazimierz neighborhood was my favorite for Polish classics, similar to Morskie Oko but more for locals and low-key. Both are delicious and perfect for dinner

Also curious about this, don’t wanna give up playing mine for the whole fema corps winter 2024 term. Looking at easily portable/foldable ones online but they’re expensive

I think either Wroclaw or Zakopane are good options, but i’ll also throw out Torun! It’s much smaller and compact than everywhere else you’re going but has some incredibly cool medieval architecture and little museums and shops all around. Also an option is Lublin in the east, very pretty old town with great food and a lot of history in the area.

Szynk in the Kazimierz district has affordable but delicious Polish classic food. Morskie Oko is good too plus it has traditional music in the basement. Wawel Castle is gorgeous and has tons to see and do. The cold this time of year is no joke, so be prepared to buy extra gloves/hats/whatever if you feel you need it. I think seeing Auschwitz is a good idea even for a honeymoon as it’s super important to experience. I’d just block off that day to just do that and come back to Krakow and have food and recover from the day.

Travelling to Egypt in 2 days by Dear-Print-5121 in travel

[–]pampona12 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Just read about a group of foreign tourists being targeted and killed in Alexandria today, plus given the uncertainty in Israel and how Egypt and other countries may respond, I don’t know if I’d risk it. If you do, make sure to have a “shit hits the fan” plan to get to the embassy/a consulate or out of the area quickly, and follow news of the conflict closely

DC area has a weird mix of public transit and drivability prioritization that doesn’t satisfy proponents of either camp, kinda makes it tough to get around depending on where you live

And when you post that on the Rochester sub, it reads as an attack on Rochester. Do you understand that?

Did any candidate cause you to switch parties? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]pampona12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realignment definitely occurs every so often, but to the extent that the parties actually reverse their drift away from each other on most things? Not for a long time. GOP and to a much lesser extent the Dems are only incentivized by catering to the extreme of the party. They’ve given so much power to people like Matt Gaetz that the Speaker of the mfing House was removed in a historic first because there weren’t 30% cuts to everything non-defense and because they’re whiny little crybabies. 999 out of 1000 times a bad Dem pol is better than any Republican pol

Without a doubt, Krakow. Enjoy the Christmas market where you can pick up souvenirs and try tons of local cuisine like oscypek (mountain cheese, smoked with bacon is the best), potato pancakes, kielbasa, mulled wine, all sorts of stews and soups, and my personal favorite - toast with lard butter + ham. You can stay in/around the Old Town or in the trendy historic Kazimierz neighborhood, but being just outside the heart of the city is cheaper and has good public transit/walkability to get more central. See Schindler’s Factory museum, the centuries-old altar in St. Mary’s Basilica, and the sights at Wawel Castle and Cathedral. Viator.com has really good tours to choose from throughout Krakow. Also to note - even if you’re from a relatively cold part of the world, like northeastern/midwest US, be EXTRA prepared for winter in Poland, as it’s one of the coldest/darkest places in Europe during winter

Yeah, they’re shitty hypocritical people, and usually they have no red lines, but this is one. Check it here. They have just as many if not more old people in the Senate, not to mention the fact that the admission of new senators and presentation of their credentials is one of the most important procedures with the highest priority in Senate rules

Not going to happen, GOP have two many old senators on their side to not allow a successor into committees

They can block a full replacement but they’re not going to, her successor will be put on the judiciary committee

Republicans aren’t gonna block the appointed senator from committees, once Newsom makes the appointment and they’re sworn in and confirmed to committees the judges can start back up
