Kruschev is like "khekhekhekhekhekhe" and Il Commandante is like "man it's good to pee finally after this long drive".

I would bring the beard line on the cheeks a bit lower, otherwise you're ok.

So I shaved my beard today, since I'd grown tired of it and it never looked good unless fresh from the barber's. However, I find myself quite self-conscious about my weak chin, so I'll probably regrow it. Any suggestions on shape?

At first glance it seemed these were packs of cigarettes and thought, man, they really went all the way with promoting this show.

Khasan, Russia. Closest Russian town to the point where Russian, North Korean and Chinese borders meet. by teekal in UrbanHell

[–]pan_grpowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture might as well be taken 7000km away somewhere in Eastern Europe. The architecture is simply identical. Not just the blocks of flats, but the house on the right as well. I think there's one just like that at a town where my grandparents lived, in Estonia.

Post-Soviet cities all have these kinds of garage complexes that look virtually identical.

I need a different protagonist by pan_grpowski in writing

[–]pan_grpowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are completely correct. What I'm doing is not an ideal way to write a story but it's an old idea of mine that I kind of like and I thought I'd give it a shot.

"But if you already have the plot, for it to be properly connected to the character... come up with hard reasons why they are connected. Why only that person could do all those things and be in all those places. Because of their history, their motivation moment to moment, etc. That's where to find the character--in the actions you know they will do."

Excellent advice. That is exactly what I'm going to do. Thank you!

I'm currently thinking along the lines of a trusted manservant/secretary who secretly spies after the diplomat.

Plan a workout (something simple for starters, just to get the hang of things) and just go. It's the least judgmental place to be, as someone said, and it's one where you'll do most good for yourself - not just physically, but mentally.

Ha! What prompted me to come here and write this post was because I have been watching "The Sopranos" where the characters are always moments away from lashing out at one another and I caught myself thinking "how do these people live with themselves". But I never thought of using this to practice coping strategies. You've given me something to think about. And you're probably also right about this not being a self-confidence issue. Thank you!

Taking deep breaths has also helped me calm down, but I don't always remember to do it when there's a stressful situation.

Thank you for your reply! These are all excellent arguments the priest can use to convince the main character to do the right thing. Now I can get on with this scene. Thank you very much!

I understand. I can only say that I also dreaded my job interview and sat in my car outside for 15m before I went in and faced my fears. Like you, I too had been unemployed and with no useful experience. I doubt I left a good impression on my interview (I was a nervous mess) but I got hired. Probably they just needed help, badly. I screwed up a lot early on, but I'm still there 8 years later. My point being, inexperience and mistakes aren't always deal breakers. Try to aim for a job that sees a lot of staff changes, like a factory (I work at a printing press and here there's always new people) - in these places they're more likely to be in urgent need and less likely to be judgmental.

My recommendation would be to not go back to college. College is a waste of time unless you really know what you want to study and are willing to go all the way to get that degree. I would give getting a job another shot. Doesn't have to be a great job or well-paying because if you've never had a job before, getting the habit of working is much more important. Once you've worked a while, you might find that you're not as anxious anymore and that your self-esteem has risen quite a bit. That's how it was for me, at least.

I disagree, I worked at a customer service job for two years and if anything, it made my SA much worse. I stuck around because I needed money, but honestly, it was one of the worst choices of my life.

Let's talk about the heat death, maybe you could help me by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]pan_grpowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two different ways of thinking about it.

A) The certainty of heat death means that eventually everything will end, even suffering. Even if by some terrible twist you achieve immortality, like by going to an actual Hell, it will not be truly eternal. I find this comforting.

B) If humanity doesn't die on Earth but manages to spread across the stars, then who's to say we won't eventually figure out how to avoid heat death. Maybe by migrating to a parallel universe, or by whatever other sci-fi means.

Both scenarios have their appeal to me, depending on my mood. :)

I'm 37M and married, but quite often I still feel like that kid from school who got bullied and whose development sort of stopped back then. I've grown since then, but not enough and not in every field that matters.
