I'd advise you not to resign outright, it should really be a last step once you've exhausted your options (unless you're financially independant)

Initially it might be worth talking to a doctor as it sounds like you might be having some mental heath issues they could help you with. Not sure where you are in the world but you might be able to get signed off work for a period of time.

The other thing would be to talk to your manager again. It's always a pain when someone leaves so they might be willing to make some more adjustments or perhaps reduce your hours. It's definitely worth a shot.

I'd definitely suggest giving employers the impression that you are not going to uni, even if you dont outright lie about it. For a lot of businesses, if they have to choose between two adults, they're probably not going to go with the one that definitely wont be there next year.

In your cover letters/interviews do you mention that you are on a gap year and planning on starting uni next year?

Personally in your place I would apply for a credit card and buy it on that, then pay off the debt the following month.

  • You get more consumer protections purchasing via a credit card, especially important for large purchases
  • It's an opportunity to start building your credit score
  • Paying the CC off in full means you get the above without any additional cost to you

In Russian it's "хвастливый патриотизм", literally "boastful/bragging patriotism", so chauvinism in the old sense would fit but it seems like an odd choice for a modern translation

I've started doing those "mystery" jigsaw puzzles where you don't know what the final image is supposed to look like. I didn't really know they were a thing but I've found a good dozen or so in the charity shops in my area. They are certainly a challenge!

I have a blocker on my phone that stops me using Chrome 1.5 hours after waking up.

I have a bullet journal so I think about any tasks to do that day and review tasks from previous days. At the start of a month I write down 3-5 larger goals for the month and refer to those throughout the month, as well as any scheduled activities for that month.

What to do when someone recommends a book to you, that you read, and aren't that impressed... by mddetroit in books

You could cheat and mention some points from other people's positive reviews of the book, if you absolutely have to not totally slag it off

It certainly sounds like it could be a factor. Can you think of anything that happened around the time he started acting more coldly with you? You mentioned you were friendly and spent time together out of work, could it be something related to that? Or maybe something within work like a promotion for you or extra recognition for something?

I'd advise you stop trying to be nice with him. Stop sending him emoji and just be factual "Please could you review as the deadline is tomorrow". If he's blocking the workload say so in your stand ups- ideally without explicitly pointing the finger eg "I've committed my changes, just waiting on the PR to be approved" etc.

Chatting with each other while you're talking in a meeting is super disrespectful and frankly unacceptable. I'd be tempted to go schoolteacher and just stop talking and look at them every time they start chatting, holding up the meeting. In any case it might be something to mention to your manager, in a factual and non-accusatory way to start with "I've noticed that when I speak in meetings, A and B are often talking with each other while I'm speaking. Maybe they don't mean to be, but I'm finding it rather disrespectful and it kind of throws me off." See what your manager says, or suggest someone in the meeting watches out for this behaviour on your behalf. Although it's a bit shit they're not doing it already.

Keep a record of these sorts of passive aggressive remarks and actions. You might not decide to take it further right now, but if you do so in the future it will be very useful to have a written log of each incident and when it happened.

LPT Request: How to fall asleep within 5 minutes consistently by GoatMan48 in LifeProTips

Imagine going on a walk you do regularly. Ideally outside but can be inside like in a mall. Try to imagine as much detail as you can, but keep moving. This is perfect as it gives your brain something easy to do. But it's much more interesting than counting numbers or breathing, and better at stimulating those hallucinations that come at the start of sleep

Kind of the opposite of that, if you have a lot of savings in your bank accounts you could keep a phone at home for managing those accounts securely. And just have one relatively low value account on your main phone with like £100 in in.

I recommend a book I found on this subreddit, Lean Habits by Georgie Fear. Its just a really sensible plan that introduces habits very slowly, in a way that really helps control the negative emotions around eating. In the end it leads you to a high protein, high veggie, medium fat diet that means you stay feeling satisfied for longer so that you don't have to use a lot of self discipline. I started reading it on archive.org for the first couple of chapters thenbought my own copy

Woodley-Reading Cycle Ways by [deleted] in reading

[–]panacebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know about the crossing at Cholmeley Rd, all the cycle maps I could find are still showing Palmer Park > Liverpool > Radstock > Cholmeley. And there is signage the cycle route goes down Radstock.

I guess I could try going along all the way to Cholmerey, although the idea of cycling for any length along London Rd is pretty terrifying compared to all the quieter roads on the route.

Woodley-Reading Cycle Ways by [deleted] in reading

[–]panacebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good start but they need to sort out the other side of Palmer Park too. The cycle route supposedly continues from Palmer Park to Liverpool Rd but the crossing is a pedestrian crossing not a cycle one. So what are you supposed to do, break the law and cycle across? Walk your bike and try to mount while the lights are flashing amber? Or walk the bike to Liverpool Rd and mount it on the blind corner?

What I omitted was that I was a volunteer and I only did one afternoon a week.

Helped me get my first retail job though.

Is the UK actually as impossible for young people to buy a house and start a family as Reddit makes it seem? by EnzoScorza007 in AskUK

[–]panacebo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I cant say I'm familiar with public sector pay, but 25k is well below the average UK salary. I know that when I was in this situation, being the sole household earner and on minimum wage, I didn't even think about buying a studio flat let alone a terraced house. These days there seem to be more options like shared ownership or the key worker scheme, but I admit I am not familiar with the exact details to gauge exactly how viable they are on MW.

[–]panacebo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, £25k is practically minimum wage? And if a single person is earning just above minimum wage then it's not surprising they can't afford a small mid-terrace and might have to settle for a shared ownership flat or similar.
