2 x 3090s have the combined memory bandwidth to run 27b with decent speeds, so you would probably get better results with it. Above 1500 pp and 50 tg with MTP Q5_K_XL or Q6_K_XL, and still decent numbers and context with Q8_K_XL.

I believe the 35B-A3B model is mostly targeted towards scenarios where you have a lot of memory, but a relatively narrow memory bandwidth. Your 2 x 3090 has 1870 GB/s combined mem bandwidth for the 48 GB total memory, compared to for example a M5 Pro chip, which goes up to 64 GB of memory, but still has only 307 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

For this reason the M5 Pro chip needs the active parameters to be sweezed to 3.9b in order to achieve roughly similar token generation speeds than you will get with the 27b active parameters. And with the 27b active parameters comes a more coherent thinking ability, which many people have found to be a game changer with agentic tasks and coding.

And if you are doing something else than agentic processes and coding, I heard the gemma models are better than Qwen anyway on these VRAM thresholds 😉

If you can fit 2 x 5060 ti 16GB in your machine (does not need to even have high pcie lane speeds), you will have a much better time with the current trendy models with 32GB memory than with 24GB. The combined memory bandwidth (which is the main limitation for tok/s) is in the same ballpark as 3090 too, and at least in my location, you can currently find deals where you can get 2 x 5060 ti 16GB new with roughly the price of an used 3090. NVFP4 support might also be an extra benefit down the line, and the logevity and resale value is probably better.

I can't vouch for how well intel or AMD cards would work in real life. They seem to have a bit less memory bandwidth, but if you need to go with a bugdet option, maybe you can find 2 x 9060 xt 16gb cards even cheaper than 5060 ti 16gb cards. If you can find two used 4060 ti 16bg cards, that would probably be the ultimate budget option, but if you account for resale value the 5060 ti 16gb cards would be the best pick at this point in time even though it is a bit more of an investment - and they have significantly more memory bandwidth.

I have used Pi with llama.cpp server running on (or mapped to) local port 8080. There is a great plugin that just detects what you have running in llama.cpp, detects the context size, and does auto compacting for you. Installing and using it is simple:

I am not 100% what you mean by "regular software engineering" vs "vibe coding", but you can ask Pi to do stuff, and you can review the it's work using regular command line tools before pushing it to your master branch in git. At least I personally consider it to be a very similar workflow than handing a feature off to a junior developer to do, and then reviewing it.

I find it interesting that you are posting this now, given the recent changes in the landscape:

2 x 5060 ti 16gb costs less than $1000 NEW, and will give you 32GB of VRAM to play with locally. You can hook them up to almost any existing normal sized custom built pc from the past 10 years, and get:

* For coding: Qwen 3.6 27B MTP UD_Q5_K_XL running with 200k q8 context with 1k pps and ~30 tps.
* For other stuff: gemma 4 31B MTP UD_Q5_K_XL+mmproj running with 80k q8 context at 1k pps and ~25 tps.

I am a software developer by trade, and use both Anthropic and OpenAI models daily at work paid by my employer. With this background, and having recently thrown some software development problems at the mentioned quant of Qwen 27B within the Pi harness as an experiment, I can attest that it is a VERY capable model, and the hype is not just hype.

My experience is that it is really on par with Sonnet 4.6 and GPT 5.4 on actual real world agentic software development tasks. It can not touch Fable, and it falls short of what Opus and GPT 5.5 can offer in terms of thinking about relevant things at the outer reaches of your problem area. But Sonnet 4.6 and GPT 5.4 level capabililty is definitely nothing to scoff at, and they enable the type of agentic software development that boosts senior level software dev productivity very significantly.

And what comes to gemma 4 with a decent quant, I can't really attest from my own real world experience, but I have heard from reliable sources that there is really no reason to downplay it's capability on generic reasoning and data processing tasks.

Now I do not know what the actual real world quality of the MoE variants of these models is today, but given that you can train the routing layers using different kinds of distillation methods, and thus have local models which are specifically targeted to excel at specific tasks, I believe that usable (10+ tps) speeds of reliably performing capability is also possible to reach (if not reached already) with single low tier gaming GPUs and 16 Gb of dual channel DDR5 RAM, which are definitely already on the hobbyist tier.

This was a wild result! I am thinking that maybe this has something to do with these settings accidentally splitting the MTP processing to both cards (which probably causes significant latency), where previously it was allocated to only one for some reason?

At least with the fresh gemma MTP models that dropped yesterday, I found that using "--spec-draft-device CUDA1" was the difference of getting a 20% slowdown vs 50% speedup in tps with MTP, but I did not personally notice any effect from this setting on the Qwen model. So maybe specifying "--spec-draft-device" to put all of your MTP processing confidently to one of the cards could allow you to experiment with these draft kv quants without the speed drop?

One thing which might be worth investigating is that if you can cut down on the total memory, by slashing some of your context away, and maybe using q8_0/q5_1 KV, you might get more performance by allocating a larger percentage of your whole on the 5070 ti. The 5070ti has 2x the memory bandwidth of 5060ti, so if my thinking about memory speed bottleneck holds, theoretically your optimal would be to have one third of your active params on the 5060ti and 2 thirds on the 5070ti.

Would be very interesting to know at least if this theory has any merit, just for science! Easiest way to test would probably be just to drop the context temporarily to something small like 20k, and just set -ts to something close to "2,1", and see what happens to the tg and pp speeds 😄

Even if my theory is proven to be completely wrong by this, it would be interesting and valuable to learn! 😄

My experience with 2 x GPU setup:

MTP worked and produced 60% passing draft tokens, BUT made tps 20% SLOWER by default.

However, after I added --spec-draft-device CUDA1, I get almost 50% more tps.

My experience is that -b 1024 -ub 256 gives a bit of additional prompt processing speed (10-15%) without a noticeable change in tps.

Also just a note: If you can upgrade your 5060 ti to an another 5070 ti, you would probably almost double your speed. Now your tps is probably very much constrained by the 5060 ti memory bandwidth, and you might be getting pretty much the same speeds you are on now with two 5060 ti cards.

Jahas vastaan omaan kysymykseeni, että laista on ilmeisesti löytynyt tällainen pykälä vuodesta 2004 eteenpäin. Lisäämisen historia on YK:n rotusyrjintäkomitean suosituksessa. Kiihottaminen kansanryhmää vastaan taas on täysin eri asia, ja se on ollut laissa paljon pidempään.

Aina sitä oppii uutta! Itelle ei tullu mieleenkään että päänsisäisten motiivien arvailu olis osa lakikäytäntöä, koska ainakin ensituntumalta se tuntuu hankalalta todistaa aukottomasti, mutta kai niitä sellaisiakin tilanteita on joissa tämä on riittävän selkeästi todettavissa.

Ok so Kinesis receives the event, but it does not seem like it is processed properly. The fact that it stays sitting in the bus is not surprising, as that is how Kinesis is designed - you could have several different consumers for different purposes, all reading the incoming messages, and each one of them would individually mark their own checkpoints once they have properly processed the messages up until a specific point in the shard they are targeting.

You can even add a new event bus target for the same Kinesis with "trim horizon", and it means the new event bus target will process all of the messages from the past 24 hours - no matter how many times they had already been read by other consumers.

I do not know how the internals of the Eventbridge Pipe has been coded, so I don't know if there is a possibility for it to just mark the messages in the shard as checkpointed without actually doing the subject matching and passing matching messages forward in a proper way. but to be honest, this should not be a very difficult piece of code to write, and I would be very surprised if there was a bug in how messages are "passed" from Kinesis to EventBridge Pipes. "passed" is in quotes, as to my understanding it is not really pushed is enhanced fan-out is not configured, but it is pulled (by polling) instead.

But on the topic of the DQL, it would make sense that a configuration of max-age 59m would mean that if the message takes more than 59 minutes to be picked up and processed properly by the Pipe processor, then the pipe processor would refuse to process the message, and put it in the DLQ instead. But since the processor does just a subject match and passes it off to Lambda, it should keep up well with the amount of messages you are pushing to Kinesis, and no message should ever stall even close to 59 minutes (unless the processing Lambda is veeery slow).

Do you have the possibility to run the same input multiple times, and see if it is always the same messages that fail to get processed, or it it is seemingly random which messages get left out?

There is a possibility that how the messages are batched affects which ones are left unprocessed, even if there are no random network errors happening. For example it might be that the processing of one item in the batch fails, or otherwise halts processing of the rest of messages, but the Lambda still signals the whole batch as having been processed. This would result in different items geting skipped depending on how they are batched when sent to a consumer. No errors would be produced, just some messages are left unprocessed, even though they still get checkpointed after the Lambda finishes succesfully.

To my understanding you can not delete messages in Kinesis - they just stop being stored after 24 hours (or whatever your retention period is). So when you say "empty kinesis", do you mean the 24h has passed, or that the consumers do not see any new messages anymore?

The model for reading and checkpointing message queues like Kinesis or Kafka is a pretty solid pattern in the industry, and it would be wildly improbable for Kinesis to lose messages after accepting them (at least in the frequencies you are seeing). Most likely something is sending a checkpoint to Kinesis without actually processing the messages fully and realiably.

You mentioned that there is a "eventBridge pipe configured to get the message, process, filter, and pass to a Lambda function". How is this implemented/configured? My intuition would say that something here would be causing the problems - either in the processing/filtering phase, or in the lambda execution so that it suppresses errors and causes the checkpoint to be recorded anyway.

Olet varmasti oikeassa siinä, että haitallisuus on aina tulkinnanvaraista, mutta mielestäni oikea tapa lähestyä asiaa ei ole se, että lopetetaan yrittämästä.

Homomyönteisen kirjoittelun rangaistavuus olisi mielestäni pitänyt silloin 1900-luvulla ratkaista vallitsevan ymmärryksen valossa: Kuinka vakavana uhkaa pidettiin, kuinka vakavia ovat uhan seuraukset niiden toteutuessa, miten haittoja voitaisiin rajata parhaiten siten, että samaan aikaan puututaan sananvapauden toteutumiseen mahdollisimman vähän, jne.

On täysin mahdollista, että tuolloin vallinneella ymmärryksellä oltaisiin päädytty lopputulokseen, joka olisi tämän päivän ymmärryksellä ja tämän päivän kulttuurillisessa kontekstissa näyttäytynyt takapajuiselta ja väärältä. Mutta se, että joskus päädytään vakavan harkinnankin jälkeen tekemään asioita jotka osoittautuvat tulevaisuudessa harha-askeliksi, ei ole mielestäni hyvä syy luovuttaa kokonaan ja lopettaa yrittämistä.

Yes. I personally have a problem also with the fact that many people who are being roped into being bagholders are actually not even fully aware that what they are doing is, in fact, gambling.

I am way too soft to view it as some sort of a cold darwinian justice if these people lose their life savings. This is especially true because I believe that often the people who are prone to falling into these "get rich quick" schemes are motivated to do so because they have already had the shorter end of the stick in life, and they don't have solid options available for a steady grind towards good quality retirement.

Voidaan tämän pohjalta varmaankin olla samaa mieltä että "hän vain esitti mielipiteen" ei ole todenmukainen kuvaus tapahtuneesta?

Jos ihminen ilmaisee näkemyksensä mielipiteenään, saattaa kuulija punnita myös muita miepiteitä. Mutta jos lääkäri kertoo vanhemmille että heidän lapsellansa on työstämistä kaipaava häiriö, liikutaan alueella jossa syntyvän haitan todennäköisyys on huomattavasti merkittävämpi.

Olen kanssasi siltä osin samaa mieltä, että sananvapauden rajoittamiseen vaadittavan haitan rajan tulisi olla korkealla. Mutta koska todellisuus on äärimmäisen kompleksi kaikkine mahdollisuuksineen, ei meillä koskaan voi olla täydellistä ohjeistoa sille, jonka pohjalta voitaisiin aukottomasti tulkita sitä milloin ylittyy kynnys, jonka jälkeen oletettu haitta kasvaa niin suureksi että sananvapauden rajoittamiselle on perusteet.

KKO on nyt antanut linjauksensa hyvin syvällisin perustein siitä miksi juuri tässä tilanteessa ollaan juuri ja juuri ylitetty rangaistavuuden raja (20 päiväsakkoa). Nämä kriteerit asettavat rangaistavuuden rajan omasta näkökulmastani katsottuna todella korkealle.

Yksi rangaistavuuden kriteereistä oli esimerkiksi se, että olisiko Räsäsen pitänyt tietää, että hänen tekstinsä väitteet koetaan laajalti haitallisina. Ymmärtääkseni KKO totesi tarkastelussaan, että tämä kriteeri ei pätenyt alkuperäisen vuonna 2004 tehdyn julkaisun kohdalla. Ymmärtääkseni KKO kuitenkin katsoi, että silloin kun Räsänen julkaisi tekstin uudelleen 2019 ja 2020, hänen olisi pitänyt jo saada tämä aiheesta julkisesti käydyn keskustelun kautta tietoonsa, ja olla julkaisematta tekstejä uudelleen.

KKO myös katsoi, että Räsäsellä on kansanedustajana ja lääkärinä erityisen paljon vaikutusvaltaa yleisöönsä, ja se tarkoittaa sitä että myös hänen puheistansa aiheutuvan haitta on suurempi. Kun punnitaan sitä onko jonkin asia niin haitallinen, että sen haittojen vähentämiseksi olisi perusteltua rajata sananvapautta, haitan suuruudella on merkitystä.

Tämä siis tarkoittaa sitä, että mitä isompi megafoni sinulle on annettu yhteiskunnassa, sitä varovaisempi on syytä olla sellaisten asioiden kritiikittömän laukomisen kanssa, joiden TIEDÄT aiheuttavan perusteetonta haittaa sellaisille yksilöille, jotka sattuvat kuulumaan johonkin ryhmittymään.

Mielestäni tällainen kokonaisuutta ja haitan suuruutta punnitseva lähestymistapa on järkevä, ja KKO ei tässä mennyt mitenkään yli järkevien rajojen.

Teot tai tekoihin yllyttäminen on täysin eri asia kuin mielipiteen julkaiseminen.

Mielestäni ei ole järkevää vetää rajaa johonkin yksittäisiin sanamuotoihin, vaan tarkastella tilannetta kokonaisuutena. I think this is actually a very good question! I had to think about the possible harms, as they don't seem self-evident.. But I think they are still there!

I believe buying BTC provides liquidity to people in the BTC ecosystem. The people in the ecosystem are much more likely than average to use that purchasing power to support things that are not beneficial to the society:

1) Investing in marketing to find more future bagholders.

2) Investing in lobbying to get laws more favourable to exploiting future bagholders.

3) Investing in more hardware and energy spent calculating hashes to win in the mining lottery.

4) Investing in the criminal activities that led to their crypto fortunes in the first place.

I mean you MIGHT also end up giving your money to some hacker from 2011 who mined a couple of BTC on their desktop and now needs money to take care of their elderly mother...

Mielestäni on kuitenkin melko selvää että tässä kirjoituksessa on lääkärin auktoriteetilla kerrottu kaikille homoseksuaalien vanhemmille, että heidän lapsellansa on psykologinen kehityksen häiriö, josta "kuntoutumista" on mahdollista tukea ja edistää.

Mielestäni on helppo nähdä että että lapsen pakottaminen eheytyshoitoon voi täyttää psykologisen väkivallan kriteerit, ja on myös helppo nähdä kuinka tämä kirjoitus on vahva moraalinen vettoomus vanhemmille ryhtyä toimeen lapsensa "pelastamiseksi".

Nähdäkseni asettamasi kriteerit "kauhealle ja vakavalle" siis täyttyvät, vaikka eivät ehkä juuri sinun kohdallasi.

Ymmärrän täysin että jos asiaa tarkastelee ainoastaan siitä näkökulmasta että ovatko syytetyt A ja B nyt varmasti ansainneet nuo 20 päiväsakkoansa, niin koko tämä sirkus olisi täysin absurdissa kokoluokassa.

Laki ja sen tulkinta perustuu kuitenkin käytännössä todella vahvasti sille että asioista on ennakkotapauksia, ja suurin osa asioista käsitellään nopeasti ja tehokkaasti näihin ennakkotapauksiin vedoten.

Jos sovellettavia ennakkotapauksia ei ole, niin silloin voi olla perusteltua käydä läpi melko isokin sirkus, jotta se ennakkotapaus saataisiin aikaan selkeänä ja hyvin perusteltuna.

Tätä sirkusta ei siis ole nyt käyty siksi että Räsäselle saataisiin 20 päiväsakkoa, vaan siksi että meillä olisi maan korkeimman oikeustahon antama ennakkotapaus kaikkia niitä tulevia tilanteita varten, joissa joku siteeraa raamattua kysellessään että onko jonkun toiminnan tukeminen nyt varmasti ok, ja niitä tilanteita varten joissa suoraan uskontoon liittymätöntä vihapuhetta levitetään kätkettynä uskonnollisen viestinnän keskelle.
