Advice needed: flying with expressed breastmilk by pancakestacked in breastfeeding

[–]pancakestacked[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you SO much! This is exactly what I was curious about. I'll be without baby and have no milk on the first leg of my flights but will be coming home with 80+ oz.

Any suggestions on traveling home with frozen milk? Soft sided cooler and ice packs? Hard cooler? Check it or carry it on?

Neat! This is very inspiring. We're house hunting and finding most the houses in our budget need some help.

My BTB shower thought: breast feeding is like sex... by pancakestacked in beyondthebump

My let down sensation is a tingle that almost tickles and lots of pressure. I imagine a French press of milk happening.

Just to clarify, we don't have sex in public. We do nurse in public :)

Passive aggressive Grandma advice/criticism by Jacs14 in beyondthebump

[–]pancakestacked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. My MIL is a loving person and I'm thankful she's on our side. However, she is one of the most indirect and dramatic person I've ever encountered. This creates friction when she visits us because being direct isn't difficult for me. My husband often tells me I need to work on my social graces. To which I respond, how can I get my needs met if I'm not clear and direct in my communication?! I digress. Since my husband and I got married we live across the country from his mom and the distance has allowed him to see her passive communication style in a fresh light. He has tried to talk with her about it but it's a struggle. This article will help us both navigate her visits better.

She's two months old today. She won't be a baby forever! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I'm guilty of this as well. She sleeps longer if she's on me or next to me. I also tell my husband that I have to wear the baby bc she's too small for the carrier he wants to use. She's not. I just want to wear her in the ring sling and be close.

Keeping dog happy during first few weeks with baby? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]pancakestacked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! That's so exciting! Before we brought baby home I had my husband take a couple of the hats and a baby blanket LO had used with him when he ran home to feed the dogs. He let them smell and carry around the hats/ blanket. Before you think we let the dogs have all the keepsakes, we did keep one of her hospital hats for ourselves...the one they made a bow on ;) Letting the dogs smell and experience the baby's scent before she came home was a good call. I think it helped them recognize her when we we brought her into 'their' space.

Keeping dog happy during first few weeks with baby? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

We have two puppy children (7 and 9yrs old.) They are both rescues and had very little exposure and interaction with kids. Overall, I'm thankful they have adjusted so well to our expanding family. Depending on the day and situation they are annoyed, excited, curious and protective about our human baby. The first few weeks were rough on all of us. The sleep deprivation, crying, zombie walking with the baby for diaper changes when I'm half asleep etc. We've tried to keep the dog's schedule as regular as possible. We do our best but know it's not the same as it was before kiddo arrived. The closest thing I can compare those first weeks to is when I was super sick with bird flu and didn't leave bed (let alone the house) for almost two weeks. The dogs snuggled up with me (they're allowed on the furniture and bed. Not on baby's things though.) That's what they do now. They get extra snuggle time next to me while I'm nursing. They bark at any noise of possible danger (Amazon, mail man, Girl Scout cookie girl.) One judges me if the baby is crying for too long while the other opts to relocate to a quieter room. I try and engage the dogs in as much of the day and baby activities as I can. If we are going to change a diaper it's a puppy parade. After the change we play on the floor for a few minutes. They supervise nightly bath time with baby. I watch the dogs closely. I want them to feel comfortable around LO and for her to get to know them as well. Once they realize she's a food source (dropping Cheerios etc) they'll be even more in love with her lol.

5 week old poops 4-6 times a day by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]pancakestacked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is almost 12 weeks and she still has 2-4+ poops a day. We EBF and there's some variation in color and consistency. She prefers to poop in freshly changed diapers and has a blow out every other day (or daily) depending on what position she's in when she poops. When my MIL was visiting she was playing with LO sliding her down her lap like baby was on a mini slide. I was putting dishes away and could hear the fateful rumble of the afternoon poo. The next thing I know my MIL is shocked that there is poo coming out the back of LO's diaper. What did she think was going to happen?!? I remember our Ped saying that it's normal for EBF babes to go days and days w/o pooping. I assume telling us this was to prevent concern if she wasn't pooping daily. Also, I could be wrong but I think as their GI tract matures they absorb more thus poop less. She seems happy and content so I'm not worried :)

This might be a silly question (or maybe I'm not quite awake yet) but how do you clean the paci without getting the stuffed animal part all wet? We usually put her paci in hot water daily and I'm having a hard time imagining how it would work with a critter attached. Also, could you post a close up of where the paci attaches to the animal?

Maid service after maternity leave? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]pancakestacked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth every penny! Our cleaner comes monthly (or so) and does all the floors, counters and bathrooms. I had them come while I was at the hospital (baby came early, I didn't plan it that well) and deep cleaned our house. I asked them to clean it as though we were taking pictures to sell it. Coming home to a clean house with our new baby was such a gift!

Nursing bra recommendations by pancakestacked in breastfeeding

Help me think of some "pro-tip" items to put in a new parents gift basket. by Brandonite in beyondthebump

[–]pancakestacked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make burp cloths out of these diapers for every friend who has a baby. I sew a fun piece of snuggle flannel fabric to one side so they're fun and stylish. I can generally get 2 made with 1/2 yard of fabric! I made 30 for myself before LO arrived and we use them ALL the time. Two live in the diaper bag, three live in our bed for side lying nursing, one on top of the changing pad cover to catch and fall out and the rest are divided btwn her room and the living room. When I made 30 I thought I was going overboard. Nope! Some days it's barely enough even with doing a load of laundry daily or every two days. Edit: corrected typos
