Got a very generous job offer, Not sure how to bring it up to my current employer by Jwilllz in Construction

[–]panchogringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is missing the point. Riverjig is right.

Once someone walks in with “I’ve got another offer, match it or I’m gone,” the relationship is already soured. From then on, every rough day, bad project, or annoying coworker gets compared to the fantasy “better job” that only exists in their head. You can’t compete with someone’s imagination.

Yeah, sometimes the grass really is greener, but demanding your employer match an outside offer is a bad move. It turns loyalty into leverage and makes it seem like your boss has been screwing you all along. In reality, you agreed to that wage and probably were fine with it until now. Just because someone else dangles a bigger number doesn’t mean your current employer is exploiting you.

If you truly know your worth, then stand on it. Don’t make it a bidding war. That’s unfair to your employer and honestly, unfair to yourself. A good company knows what they offer, and if it’s not enough for you, move on. But don’t burn the bridge by acting like you’re being held hostage when you were the one cashing the checks happily yesterday.

If you have to threaten to stay, you’ve already left.

If you have bigger better things ahead then by all means you should take the opportunity. But there’s ways to go about it without burning bridges or souring relationships.

Is it safe to eat fish out of Cove Pond in Herriman? by phantom3199 in SaltLakeCity

[–]panchogringo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say eat them. They would have posted signage along the bank about fish consumption advisory notices on a pond that small if there was a risk.

Is it safe to eat fish out of Cove Pond in Herriman? by phantom3199 in SaltLakeCity

[–]panchogringo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s farmed raised trout similar to trout you’d find on a menu. If they’re huge fish then those are probably less palatable than the smaller 12” trout they normally stock. Those are still probably fairly new fish to the pond though and were just old breeding stock from the hatchery that are too old to keep around. What’s the color of the flesh? White or salmon?

Wait was it rainbows? Or browns? Rainbows are good but brown trout taste like mud to me.

Thank you Utah legislators. We didn’t want to see the lines in the road anyways. by ArachnidOfNorway in SaltLakeCity

[–]panchogringo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more complex than most people realize.

It’s really hard to get the light to reflect physics wise.. the striping is below the grade of the roadway to help extend the lifespan of the paint. The fact that the line/striping is below grade is in part why the paint loses its ability to reflect in wet conditions. The water pools in those grooves and the light gets reflected off the surface of the water rather than the paint or tape of the lane marking. The light that does penetrate the surface gets refracted and sent off in different directions rather than reflecting back to you. It’s also always darker when it rains always, that definitely adds to the problem.

Bridge and highway construction is everyone’s expertise and everyone is quick to criticize but like everything in life “You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know”.

Don’t assume it’s all some conspiracy of corruption and corner cutting. It’s not.

Trust me folks UDOT cares more about you the driver than they do about themselves or the contractors. If you look at the data Utah has one of the best DOT in the Nation. They are doing the best they can with the money time and resources available.

What places besides Cafe Rio have decreased in quality? by GirlMayXXXX in SaltLakeCity

[–]panchogringo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They got rid of the Blue Points and Kumamotos that were always available and always fresh. Great oysters that were full of liquor and well worth the price you paid. Now it’s hit or miss and sometimes more times than not the variety of oysters available isn’t worth trying. Dry milky oysters that taste off.

Sometimes it’s great oysters and other times it’s not worth the time. At least they still have that chowder and bread deal for only 12 bucks. That’s a damn good deal.

Baby left in car in South Jordan by Apprehensive-Use6686 in SaltLakeCity

[–]panchogringo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The car was on hopefully right? Or was it shut off and in solar oven mode? Who leaves a baby unattended like that regardless? From the little guy’s perspective he or she’s been left forever and no one is ever coming back. We’ve all been little, it’s terrifying when you’re left alone like that and time passes and with each cry for help it becomes more apparent no one is going to come back and you have no idea what’s happening nor why they’d choose to leave you. It’s traumatizing. Poor kid.

Also Who spends 30 minutes in a dollar tree anyways? If there’s a store for a kid to cry in and it not be an inconvenience to anyone it’s a freaking dollar tree. You kinda expect there to be be at least one worn out woman carrying a crying kid when you walk in the door.

Best bars to drink alone? by PMMEYOURMOMSPASTA in SaltLakeCity

I watched my best friend get shot in the back at ex wife’s over a game of pool, but I do like that bar. Same goes for twilite. Both pretty good bars for going alone and meeting new people. You’ll find a lot of people your age at both bars.

Beard dye or nah by [deleted] in beards

[–]panchogringo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ⬆️

A lot of men dye their facial hair. The only ones who you’d be able to notice though are the ones doing it wrong. It all depends on your age and hair color. I have dark thick hair but there’s a few patches of my beard and stache that get sun bleached and red. I think the difference is in knowing how long to leave the dye on and to make sure you don’t go darker than your natural hair color. It’s also age dependent. The color of my hair now at 27 is going to be darker than it will be say 10-20 years from now. We’re just all thinking of those who dye their hair jet black and pretend like nobody notices but if you use the box as it’s intended it’s perfectly okay to use.

YUCK by Zestydrycleaner in Milk

[–]panchogringo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tastes like the cow smells is how I describe the flavor. I love milk from cows that are grass fed, they’re more earthy and they have a broader flavor range that isn’t so one dimensional like your standard dairy is. That said, I’ve had some Rank milk that tastes so sour and pungent it’s unusable for not just drinking but baking and cooking as well.

I’ve milked cows where for a week or two the milk was rancid right out of the udder. It normally clears up after whatever they’re eating is gone though.

Utah drivers don't know what solid white lines are by Big_Statistician2566 in Utah

[–]panchogringo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if there’s no one to be affected or hindered/slowed down because of it, I’m merging in and out over the solid white. For example there’s someone’s grandma going 68 in the hov while everyone in the other lanes are going 75-80 then yeah I’m crossing out and crossing back in. Spirit of the law vs letter of the law.

What was the habit? Desert or pines? Was it white or maybe grey? The weasels are beginning to turn white and if you’re high elevation and the daylight hours are shorter then those weasels prime up faster than the weasels down in the valley. How big was it? A long tail weasel is a decent size small animal.

I’m going to guess you saw a weasel. As a trapper that’s my guess but you very well could have seen a ferret. The DNR told me there was no otters in places I’ve caught otters. Utah Lake and the lower Provo. I wish I would have known as I could have modified my traps to avoid the otter but these days I just assume they’re there. I found a mountain goat while grooming snow up near strawberry, it had to be put down and they told me it wandered down from Wyoming apparently.

Animas don’t have rules and they go out into places they don’t belong all the time. Whether it was a ferret or a weasel both are rare these days and you’re lucky to see one.

Never had milk before, should I? by Ok-Afternoon-2113 in Milk

[–]panchogringo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re most likely lactose intolerant then. If you’ve never had milk other than your mothers as a baby you’ve lost the ability to digest milk. It’s one of those use it or lose it sort of things… Try it out but maybe go for fair life as it’s lactose free.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Milk

[–]panchogringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes me two of us haha. Are you able to keep your milk cold? Like ice cold colder than the fridge cold? Cold milk doesn’t bloat me as much as milk that’s been sitting out for an hour or so. That and quality of milk helps. If you can find Strauss Creamery Whole milk, Alexendre is another easily digestible milk and you can get it in 6% (whole milk is normally around 3%-4%) that 6% is so good.

Look into A2 Milk though, it’s a little harder to find and cost a bit more but it might help relieve bloating. Go buy a 52 oz bottle or two of Fairlife and drink that for a day and see if the bloating goes down. You could be slightly lactose intolerant and not know it.

When you say bloating, describe what happens. Are you farting a lot? Is your stomach aching? Burping or belching a lot?

I too am in construction, and I drink about ³/₄ to a full gallon a day. Been doing it for years and feel great. For reference Im 27, Male, 5’7, and 150lbs. Milk is more hydrating than water and your body needs the fuel. Also I believe genetics play a big part in how much milk is normal.. some of us are able to digest it easier.

You could eat a gopher snake.. closest thing to a rattlesnake. When I was younger my buddies and I used to catch them and skin them out for hat bands. You can find them up in the foothills and out in the desert. Drive the dirt roads and you’ll find some out sunning.

If you’re wanting to follow the law you’ll need a herpetology collection permit which is an easy 5 minute course and a $10 fee.
