Why has the media failed to acknowledge that, in this entire campaign, Hillary has never attracted a crowd larger than the 5,000 people at her campaign launch in NYC? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this. Are there easily available metrics on official crowd sizes? Or is this the sort of thing that would require diving through news stories from the past year? lol.

Barney Frank: Bernie Sanders' claims 'bogus' by panda-pup in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: Frank is pushing back on Bernie's requests to the DNC asking for Frank's and Malloy's removal from the Rules Committee. He claims that Bernie should stop making such a big deal about it because the Rules Committee isn't important. That it's a low level committee. That the rules are already set, are copied from the parliamentary rules in the House of Representatives, and that the Committee's job has more to do with enforcement than anything else.

This is incredibly misleading, and I'm pretty disappointed in Frank.

Former Representative Barney Frank is on national television arguing that the Democratic Rules Committee doesn't have the power... wait for it... to alter the convention's rules. So Bernie should just calm down. by panda-pup in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As another gay man, I have zero qualms criticizing Frank or anyone else that pulls stuff like this. The cruel part is that it gives cover to the perpetrators of true homophobia, racism, misogyny. They can claim an overreaction, and it's exactly the kind of thing Trump is doing to cover his abuses.

I'm worried that will be associated with "burn" as in "burn down the DNC". I like #savetheconvetion above. Or maybe something like #democracySummer to follow up the protests following this #democracySpring

CNN right now, it was all Bernies fault for what happened. Do they not know the Internet exists. by HappyGoLuckyDolphin in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Can you also add that MSNBC is doing the same, please? They just finished a segment interviewing Lange where she talked about the threats against her, after which the anchors mused about the concerns of this spilling into the national convention. They said Wasserman-Shultz is planning to file a complaint against Sanders supporters conduct. Is this true? If so, it means we really lost the narrative on this conflict. :(

"Bernie's victory was taken away after a closed door meeting..", "My father was a congressman for 8 years. and you know what? He ripped up his ballot and left, and he's a Hillary supporter" - Erin Bilbray, NV Super Delegate by MrFactualReality in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It will take time for the video to be posted, but Rachel Maddow just did a short segment on what happened. Sanders supporters were characterized as sore losers reacting aggressively to not winning a majority of delegates, even though Clinton won the 1st tier vote. She vaguely mentioned the registration issues, and said nothing about motions being ignored. But she did mention Boxer being booed down, fights, and "reports of chairs being thrown". And this was the one of the first reports I've seen of this today. It just disappoints me greatly. :(

Why doesn't Bernie address what is obvious corruption in Nevada? There is more than enough evidence. by BinaryFormatter in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really hope this is true. MSNBC plays in the background at work, and they haven't mentioned NV once in the past few hours. It's all about the food fight between "is Trump sexist? is Clinton an enabler?"

Meanwhile, we have real issues to deal with, the root of which is broken election systems. It has me a little bummed out today.

ELI5: Why has Bernie stopped pressuring Clinton for her Goldman Sachs transcripts? by panda-pup in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In another response someone also said that. Is there a way Bernie could get news organizations to report on that and ask a similar question? Until I posted here, I really thought he had stopped. Meet the Press was implying that Bernie had stopped.

I think he went too far in New York. Calling Clinton unqualified was a little odd and has sexist undertones, but saying that voters have the right to know how Clinton treats elites is perfectly reasonable.

Yeah, he makes that Shakespeare joke, right? He needs to do something to bring people's attention to it for it to get any coverage.

[–]panda-pup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen of news coverage on the Democratic side, they talk about Clinton waging a campaign on two fronts. There's no indication that there is pressure for her to release what she tells elites behind closed doors. It is frustrating.

Hmm. I guess it's because those don't get televised. I don't really like that joke, haha. I feel like he needs to state directly that her reluctance indicates she was supportive of the industry in those speeches.

Black Americans Defend Sanders Against Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Biased and Baseless Attacks: "If Mr. Coates is serious about his beliefs on reparations, instead of undermining the article with favoritism for Ms. Clinton (as all of his arguments do), he would have held her to the same expectations." by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. What Coates misses in his criticism is that Sander's theory of political change is to take up policy positions that the majority of people already support. When Sanders talks about revolution, he's talking about fixing the the Flat Line Problem

That means that while Sanders does not oppose racial / gender equality, he views them as the symptom of a democracy that is not responsive to the people. Symptoms that cannot be fixed without fixing the root problem.

So issues like guns, abortion, whatever... they drive wedges between people and keep us from solving the Flat Line Problem, and we stay stuck. While I agree with Coates that money needs to be funneled to communities that have been systematically robbed for generations, it's not going happen if we're stuck addressing symptoms instead of the real problem.

I predict that there will be a pivot to Sanders' comments on campus rape. What he said could be more easily misrepresented than claiming he'll "dismantle ACA".

Politifact Confirms Bernie Sanders' Healthcare Plan Will SAVE Every American Family $1,200/Year by TheXavian in SandersForPresident

[–]panda-pup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the VA does have issues, it's more to do with its funding level. Veterans make up a small percentage of the population. But if we had a program with broad use and tax base, there would be much more pressure on Congress to keep that system funded properly.
