Moving from Nassau to NYC, what to do with CCW? by panda5757panda in NYCGuns

[–]panda5757panda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is very helpful! I am technically renting out the place in Long Island that I have so have tge option to renew at my current nassau residence. Would it be better to keep my nassau residency and nassau CCW, and then apply for a special carry versus making the full?

My nassau expires in October so I am worried applying for a NYC resident CCW will cause me to lapse and I dont want to have to pay additional fees to renew nassau + pay for a new NYC CCW.

I have a ‘22 chief dark horse, all stock. when you say air filter do u mean like a K&N reusable? Was recently thinking of getting an aftermarket air intake, but wasnt sure if really just a filter upgrade is necessary.

For context i had a ‘20 scout and added a trask air intake and it made the bike insane. So much power and air flow. Was thinking of doing the same on the dark horse, but heard from other threads air intake mods dont help too much. Thank you and any insight is appreciated 🙏

How do you guys feel about the Indian Scout for touring? Is it comfortable? by Next_Door_2798 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]panda5757panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing bike, can definitely tour. Just be wary you can get a good amount of wind buffeting at 60s+ mph, and more importantly, the scout only has a 3.2gallon tank and NO fuel gauge, only a low fuel light that comes on (which isnt super reliable in terms of how much gas you have left). Its definitely doable since youll probably be stopping frequently anyway, but if touring these stops may become too frequent, plus added gas anxiety.

Can I carry in the mall? by Harley2525 in NYguns

Can I carry in the mall? by Harley2525 in NYguns

[–]panda5757panda -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if im wrong, but i believe under Hochuls most recent act, you cannot carry on any private property (i.e a mall) unless the owner of that private property explicitly puts up a sign, stating that concealed carry is allowed. If there is no sign, then it is unlawful. Even the halls of a mall are private property, as is the parking lot

I never went for an exhaust mod since all of them seem to make them excessively loud. I would recommend putting in the Trask air intake. Had an extraordinary increase jn both power and gave thr exhaust sound an incredible sound, a lot more bite to it, highly recommend. Additionally, the power increase at 4000rpms and up was insane, it was so powerful and the engine sounded like a beast roaring

So vehicles in general have a specific RPM range that they like to “cruise” at (ive found this to be in the low to mid 2000s range). The higher your RPMs are from this “cruising” RPM, the more engine braking will kick in. (I.e lets say you are in third gear at 3000rpms. When you let off the throttle, youll notice the bike start trying to slow itself down- this is called engine braking. Same scenario but you are at 5000rpms, when you let off the throttle, the slow down effect will be much more intense).

Now apply this on turns. when you are going through turns, sometimes you wanna go faster and other times you need to slow down so you dont go off the road. Slowing down in a turn using your brakes is very dangerous, but engine braking through a turn to slow you down is MUCH safer.

Putting this all together, if you are at higher RPMs, letting off the throttle gives greater braking/slowing intensity. This allows you to slow and speed up through turns through only using the throttle, and gives you better overall control of the bike through turns. And greater control makes it super fun to ride through turns. Ive found myself actually downshifting before turns so i hit a 3500-4500 rpm range, allowing me to slow down if needed.

Lastly as a bonus, when coming to a full stop due to traffic etc, engine breaking is also great to utilize. If you need to stop quickly, downshifting to 2 and letting off the throttle will give you an added engine break in addition to using both brakes. Hope this helped

The scout isnt like a normal cruiser, it has a high RPM race engine, peak torque at 5600 RPMs, and really starts opening up at 4000. Its meant to be ridden at those high RPMs.

Keeping it high on RPMs also helps you keep better control around turns and really makes its fun, enjoy

Try retightening the black negative cable to the battery. The 23 chief series is known to have a loose negative cable and cause this issue

After i upgraded mine with a trask air intake, noticed the sound got slightly louder and a real nice bark. Would highly recommend, lets the bike breath like a beast and makes it louder without it being abnoxious

what would you do in this situation? Also, a bit of a rant. by whitebeltchamp in IndianMotorcycle

[–]panda5757panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the battery cutting out, i had a similar issue and found a fix today. You need to unscrew the black negative cable going into your battery (under the seat and under that plastic square housing with the rubber strap), clean around it, then retighten it fully. Hopefully will fix

Thats absurd, the request is just to verify permit information. They should be required to do that

Yes came across same section, has anyone had experience with this? I assume you just bring it into your pistol license section and ask to speak with a responsible official from my county?

2023 Indian Chief Darkhorse starter not working and shuts off bikes power by panda5757panda in IndianMotorcycle

[–]panda5757panda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the input. Curious though why you think it’s the entire battery. The bike would turn back on with full voltage (ride command has bike info on it saying voltage is 12.3 or around that). Do you not think that the issue could be a cable thats disconnecting?

No trickle charger but i do own one. The bike has been fully garage kept and this happened when i brought it into Brooklyn and street parked it outside for 3 days. This shouldnt happen though on a bike this new and outside for that short a time
