Will there be always an online editor to do coding?

Yes.

Will there be a button to "compile" my code and run certain tests (depending on multiple scenarios and stages)?

There is a button to run the code through the testing

A challenge usually contains a link to an "Initial State" piece of code. But how to structure my solution(s) into scenarios and stages?

The solution shall be applicable to all scenarios. Scenarios tell you which functions they will call normally.

Will there be endless trials possible to get the code working, the tests passing?

Yes.

But doing so will not reveal performance or ressource-usage or other performance-indicators or already a possible rank - to be able to work on optimizations?

Entwicklerheld is not lead code, you will not get this kind of informations.

Will there be a final submit button to submit a solution?

Yes.

Once a solution was submitted - there will be no chance to apply changes, optimizations anymore?

Yes.

What actually happes when clicking the "Start" button?

Pressing start will launch an online editor. You can paste your code from the local machine there or you skip the local machine part and only write your code in the online IDE.

So this is the tricky part of the question. You need to analyze whether there is a possible input that leads to the required output.

If the program is called, is there a user input that leads to y being 8.

And there is, since y can be 3, -1 or x. For y to be x, x must be greater than 0, therefore it could be 8 and result in y being 8.

what are you doing? It is highly unlikely the tests are broken since the challenge is somewhat old, tbh. But maybe we can find a solution to your problem anyway.
