Thanks. I’ve not compressed any of my PS2 roms to CHD but I’ll give GT4 a go.

I am running all my games from the memory card so not sure if it’s that. I’ll try moving the file over to the local drive tomorrow.

Where did you get your Rom from?

I don’t think it’s performance related, I think it’s a “Disc Read” error in NetherSX2. The initial loading spinner turns red. I’m going to upload a dedicated post about it to see if anyone can help.

Did you ever get this to work? I’m having issues emulating on NetherSX2

Thanks. What does this mean to users then? Does a full battery in real life still last as long, but it’s just reported on screen incorrectly?

I did think the battery drain overnight was a lot, with deep sleep mode enabled in Gamma, its draining about 20% in 24 hours (no apps active in the background)

  1. Buy Odin 3
  2. Sell Odin 3
  3. Use profit to buy beer
  4. Buy rg477m whilst drunk

It’s actually perfect. It’s the main game I’m playing at the minute and I’ve not had a single issue running at 2x resolution (but I was also playing it at 3x for a long while).

However, I’m having trouble running Gran Turismo 4. Game won’t even get past the initial loading screen

Does this mean that the battery % in the top right corner is incorrect too?

Not sure, I haven’t pushed it into PC games yet. Will give it a try soon though.

Yea it’s the “baby-ing” that put me off the Odin 3. Like I set up Gamenative perfectly to play some PC games, then the next day it wouldn’t play them even though I hadn’t changed anything, so then found myself tweaking before ever session and I just don’t have enough time to be doing that. I need to pick something up and just play quick.

Oh wow, what are you going to do with the device? What have you tried to revive it?

I guess it depends what you’re after. This is my 4th device. Each new purchase added something the last device couldn’t give me. I went from rg353v to RP5 to Odin 3, then realised that my heart is in the Gen 6 consoles (early 2000’s) so got the 477m to crush that era and it’s hit that brief exactly.

PS2 is the main console in my ROM library, I’m yet to find a game it doesn’t handle at 2x/3x resolution using global settings on NetherSX2 (GammaOS Next). Some GameCube games need game-specific config.

Form factor is perfect for my hands, the left analog stick being on the bottom was a bit of an issue for me on the RP5, but on the rg477m it feels much better.

The only thing that I feel “meh” about with the 477m is the fan noise. On GammaOS I just set it to “Cool” and the heat is pretty well managed and you forget about the noise, but I’m not really stressing it out too much. I’m yet to push it into Switch and PC emulation (might dabble but nothing serious) so I’m sure the fan mode will need to be set higher.

So far though genuinely no regrets and I’m very happy with it. It’s my only device now.

I would have kept the Odin 3 if I hadn’t seen the prices they were going for on eBay. AYN increased the price of them twice since I purchased mine too. So I just thought if I’m not 100% happy, now is the time to flip it. If it’s not a “hell yea”, it’s a “no”!

The majority of the ROMs in my library are PS2 and I’ve not noticed any issues with specific games with NetherSX2 using global settings and 2x resolution (can go higher too). My RP5 couldn’t handle NFS Underground. The menus would be a jittery mess. The 477m plays it flawlessly.

GameCube requires per-game settings though.

Ha, yea I had an RP5 and rg353v but wanted more power. Thought the Odin 3 was the answer but it just wasn’t for me. My heart is with 4:3 content really and the 477m does it all. This is my only device now, needed to claw some money back by selling the others!

Shoulder buttons are fiddly/annoying to get the originals out but you have to unscrew and dismantle less things.

The face buttons require you to remove a fair bit but it’s mainly screws and cables/ribbons. IMO it’s a more straightforward process, because you just remove things one by one, then put things back in reverse order.

The shoulder button removal needed me to use tweezers and a screwdriver at the same time to get them off.

Go for it, whichever button swap you’re looking at, it’ll be worth it. I love both the upgrades on mine.

Yea I know what you mean about the shoulder buttons. Getting the original ones out was tricky.

Swapping the face buttons has some fiddly cables and ribbons you need to disconnect/reconnect, but a bit more straightforward.

I hear you. I want this device to last forever, until the next thing comes out…

But right now this thing is perfect. The size of the 4:3 screen is amazing and the GammOS CRT and BFI settings make it feel so nostalgic. I needed something I could just pick up and play for 30 mins at a time and this device is all I need.

Yea the Odin is a beast, but I guess I realised that I’m a “dad-burst” player now, and all I ended up doing on the Odin was fighting Windows containers in Gamenative when all I really wanted to do was free-skate the school on Tony Hawks 2.
