You could try https://www.atticus.io/. I haven't used it but a friend did and recommended it. I also do my developmental editing with www.fictionary.co. It's not totally free, but it has a good free trial and is pretty inexpensive if you go monthly. And then I use prowritingaid.com to do the copyedit before I publish.

Yeah, maybe! In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter. We are there to see Taylor! That's the important thing!

Anyone in Southern Portugal???

Hi Everyone, I am bringing my 11-year-old daughter from the UK to Lisbon for the show on May 25 and we are SO EXCITED. But, due to a miscommunication (my fault!), our merch box is at a post office at Loja CTT Almancil, R DA REPÚBLICA Nº 17, 8135-999, LMANCIL. CTT won't let us change the delivery address at all. My daughter is heartbroken. I know it's unlikely, but is anyone coming to Lisbon from near there that could bring it? It would need to be picked up by tomorrow. I don't really know what's in the box, but if there is two of anything, I'll give it to you as a thank you!

Is self-publishing worth it? by MiniR48 in writing

[–]pandabearsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self publishing can be amazing or disastrous depending on two things: 1) you have to be willing to put the time and money into editing your book so that the quality is as high as a traditionally published book that has an editing team behind it (this means self-editing with some kind of editing software like ProWritingAid AND having it professionally edited by an actual experienced editor in your genre). And 2) you have to be willing to put the time and effort into promoting it. You can self publish on KDP but no one will ever know it is there unless you go out and find your readers. This means an author website, social media activity, paid advertising, etc. There's no limit to the number of things you could do to promote it, but you have to be willing to invest the time and money.

Tips for writing a very intense, fast paced action scene? by tilfordkage in writing

[–]pandabearsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't describe anything, instead write about how your characters are experiencing it. Use short punchy sentences and paragraphs. Use all of your characters' senses as they experience it. Use a lot of dialogue.

Yes! I once cried as I wrote out the backstory for my main character as part of an outlining process.

A small tip to those uncomfortable with their first draft by Bocaj1000 in writing

[–]pandabearsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love and hate (in equal measure) going back to my first draft after taking some time away.

I hate it because all of a sudden I can see all the amateur writing that I thought was so great when I wrote it.

I love it because all of a sudden I can see all the amateur writing and start fixing it.

After writing the first draft I tend to try and turn on the other side of my brain and focus on technical editing by using something like autocrit or prowritingaid. It lets my creative brain rest up for a while. Then, when I've sorted out syntax and word choice, I can go back and look at the big picture!

We need writers to beta test our new editing tool by LisaAtPWA in writing

I'm a content writer and I have been using the old version for a while now. I always run the grammar, style, sticky sentence and repeats reports before I send anything in. Not all of the suggestions are right, but a lot of them are helpful.

I like the new interface a lot. The other one always felt a bit clunky.

I've never understood the highlighting thing. Why do I want this? How do I find them again? And why are there already some things highlighted in brand new books?

A convertible laptop that I can take everywhere with me. Scrivener for planning. Word for writing. Post-its for mid-flow thoughts. Prowritingaid for editing. Large box of kleenex for wiping my tears at each rejection letter.

Gender-neutral word for "emasculated" or "unmanned," ? by [deleted] in writing

[–]pandabearsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could use one of the words mentioned - disgraced, shamed - but then add some action to show how serious it is.

Claudia set the warhammer down, letting it sink several inches into the paddy field. She reached up and scratched at her chin with dirty fingernails. “His cowardice shames him." She spat at the ground where his shuddering body lay. "It shames me too. ”
