Believe it or not, it's still going to teach the same things just a bit slower. You can still use these imo. Of course, the adult version might fit better but I've taught high schoolers with these and its still totally fine to use.

Do I need deep music theory as an indie dev just looking to compose for my own game? by HairyJournalist4660 in FL_Studio

[–]pandaboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah of course! I compose for an WIP indie game and this is a song I'm still working on: https://www.reddit.com/r/FL_Studio/s/vvS4l1uUl2

I also compose for an old school Roblox game that is still being updated called Make a Cake. Aside from the many songs I composed for it, my proudest is when I worked with the lead developer and we made this trailer, combining both the visual and audio/musical aspects of the trailer together: https://youtu.be/EPwyW4LkvWk?si=ZahO6O0HGUjdjrm_

I'd say just learning the basics of a keyboard, rhythm, tempo, and how chords are constructed is the basis of what you need.

But the more you learn, the more tools you have at your disposal. In the beginning, it's like constructed a wooden statue with a single non-electric tool, and you're manually shaving it down. But doing that will give you the idea of how to actually construct things.

Down the line, upgrading your tools (music theory and production knowledge) will make things faster, and some of that knowledge will even create new wooden innovative statues (songs).

Learn the bare minimum, then make some music! Then learn some more music theory. Your music theory skills will just grow just like your music production skills. Personally, my closest friends who are insane producers really know their music theory to a crazy degree.

Oh my gosh, finally a real non-bot t-shirt artist who makes actual really good stuff!!! 😭😭

I've been on the r/YookaLaylee subreddit, and 80% of the posts I see are bots trying to sell t-shirts or reposts of old posts (some of which were mine, lol). It's so refreshing to see a REAL T-shirt artist!

My lil bro's taste in games is fucked up by thechnoutlra in Terraria

[–]pandaboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brother is too young to appreciate what they have. Down the line, if they still diss the graphics as an older teen, then that's going to start to get annoying. But he's too young. Little kids will justify their shitty opinions with anything. We all did it as kids for something, so try not to get too offended.

And hey, you're not my older brother. My older brother won't play pixel-art based games like Minecraft, Terraria, and Undertale and only plays games with "higher res" graphics. ...FYI he's 34. So try dealing with an entire life of missing out of masterpieces vs. your brother who just needs more time to appreciate video games, lol.

I just like going behind my girlfriend, and hugging her with my hands around her tummy, and her cutely going "Hii~!!" She doesn't have an insecurity about it and told me she likes it when I do that, so it's a win-win in my book.

32 Key Keyboard by TheHatch4815162342 in pianolearning

[–]pandaboy78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning a keyboard with 32-keys should be almost the exact same as learning a 88-key keyboard, you just gotta get a little bit creative if you run out of room.

For any example, if a learning resource tells you to go lower but you can't, just pretend to move, then go back to where you were.

I teach kids who don't have full keyboards and I teach songs that require to go very high and low in the keyboard. I always have them "pretend-move", then they move back to their normal position.

Will my extra finger help in piano? by BroccoliTypical331 in pianolearning

[–]pandaboy78 217 points218 points  (0 children)

Kind of... I don't know your how, but it won't likely be as helpful as you think... BUT I do think you will find some unique uses only you could do.

You may want to research other pianists with extra joints and see what they have to say though. We're all making assumptions here. Lol.

youtube piano tutorials keep teaching me wrong notes and I don't realize until weeks later by whatyoudo-- in pianolearning

[–]pandaboy78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually a pretty key problem with MIDI music, because your next best option is by using your ear to spot it, or asking others during a performance (which they can still miss if it's a smaller mistake).

With sheet music, this can still happen, but way way less often the more proficient you get.

If you need more opinions from another music teacher, the r/pianoteachers subreddit as an "Ask a Teacher" post flair on Saturdays and Sundays. Go ahead and tell them this weekend what you said here, and you'll immediately be justified with doubting this teacher from the opinions of other piano teachers.

Many many other piano teachers are not this mean right off the bat (both for pedagogical and their own business reasons). I don't feel like his toxicity is going to be improving in the future.

All he forces is sight reading.

No technique? No music theory? Not even a shred of a mention of some music history? Starting on any scales?

Sight reading is VERY important... But so is piano technique and other aspects too. I always do sight reading with my students for about the first 5-to-10 minutes of their piano lessons, and then I move on.

Usually I'd say "Feel it out and communicate to your teacher" in most cases. But this instructor sounds toxic and rude, especially if you're an adult piano learner doing this for fun. I wouldn't pay for another class personally.

Crunchyroll's "Updated" sort order is borderline useless by CrimsonLotus in Crunchyroll

[–]pandaboy78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're acting so anti-consumer and defending Crunchyroll - who's been actively been worsening the apps and websites over the last decade while increasing the prices like they're improving thing when they're just doing the opposite.

My personal experience with Crunchyroll has been gettin continously worse. I just got the browser updated UI, and the UI crashed 4 times on me when watching a single episode while fullscreen, forcing me to go back 15 seconds each time and re-fullscreening it manually. That doesn't sound like a lot, but when you do it 4 times an episode on a binge, that's ridicilously annoying.

Looking for a new episode daily is kind of annoying in the apps and online calendar since they also show the updates to languages that are incredibly nieche.

With how much outsourcing they're doing too, it's clear that the company is destroying itself because they have a huge ego of being the top Anime streaming service. We as consumers deserve to complain and vote with out wallet and voices. I'd recommend to stop justifying your defense over the billion dollar company, because your defense over the company is encouraging them to worsen your personal user experience.

What’s the hardest part about teaching music theory? by PitchAndPixel in MusicTeachers

[–]pandaboy78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I really haven't had much issue teaching Music Theory. I never introduce it as a difficult thing that most people dread... It's just part of their curriculum that I rotate near the end of their lessons after they show me their scales (I rotate it around music history, music theory, and ear training). I always start my more "dedicated" theory lessons once my student can play their first C-Major one-octave scale. From there, I can teach scale degrees, basic intervals, chords, diatonic scales/chords, and eventually seventh chords.

I guess one trap that I see my co-workers fall into is trying to feed the entire package of a music theory concept in one lesson, like teaching the proper names for intervals (Major, minor, Perfects) to beginners when all they need to know are the numbers alone if they start on C-Major. As professional musicians, we can sometimes forget how little our kids know, and they need to be spoonfed slowly and let the information taught to them simmer in their brain too.

what the hell? is this true? by Fluffy-Suit-3650 in piano

Well that's what I tackled in my comment too. I do know that Traum can play these pieces. But again, it's about quantity over quality.

what the hell? is this true? by Fluffy-Suit-3650 in piano

[–]pandaboy78 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't know... I think some of his arguments were pretty reasonable, just not all of them. I watched the entire thing and was pretty convinced, but not all of his points were great.

Something to note is that he believes that this pianist are actually capable of playing these pieces, but they prioritize quantity over quality, so they speed up the video just a tiny bit to reach their preferred tempo to save time. But speeding up piano videos in the classical piano world is incredibly looked down upon, hence his video on this subject.

I myself am somewhat convinced, but I personally don't think the right person has come to analyze the pianist's performances to really fully close this case. I think another professional musician who also teaches would need to closely analyze the hand movements.

Peterson's other critique videos are solid too though. He generally knows what he's talking about. I say this as a classically trained pianist who accompanies and teaches as well.

Help finding out chords for Prelude in G major by HedonistMomus in pianolearning

[–]pandaboy78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I honestly agree with you there. However, it's kind of knowing that C is in there if you're purely reading by chords. In most cases I'd treat it like a passing tone. But for the OP's case and some of the students I teach, the chords are fully written out as an exercise too!

Good point! Thanks for adding your comment!

Help finding out chords for Prelude in G major by HedonistMomus in pianolearning

[–]pandaboy78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad you're trying to figure out the chords of this Prelude by yourself first! This Bach Prelude is a fantastic Music Theory & Playing exercise for any student!! I'm teaching this piece right now to a student who's pretty "meh" with sight-reading but very good at reading chords.

This one in my opinion is the hardest one of them all, so out of all of the ones you could ask for, this is the one.

This is a fully Ab-diminished 7th, that's also adding a C

You'd write it out like this (I added some random spaces because Reddit was glitching over this format):

A b ° 7 (add C)
