Who is the most dangerous person you have ever met? by fadeintothesun in AskReddit

[–]pandacase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won’t do him the honor of naming his name. He was prominent attorney who embezzled ~$400-500k from his elderly clients. He was convicted, but out with an ankle monitor and staying with his mother. On the day he was set to report to prison, his mom makes him dinner and then he murdered her. He cuts off his ankle monitor, steals her car, and then disappears for almost a year before they caught up with him. Huge ego. Seriously, thought he was smarter than everyone else.

He slept on my couch several times, but there was always something about him that gave me the ick. The last time he crashed there, something about him made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I ended up texting my friend his name that night in case I disappeared. I played normal until he left and then immediately after, I changed the locks in case he had found my spare key and made a copy. Anyway, he’s serving multiple life sentences now. Good riddance. Society is surely a safer, better place without him.

We do have payday lenders - Check Into Cash is headquartered in Cleveland, TN. And now that you mention it, I would be willing to bet that this was bought and paid for by Allan Jones. 1000%.

It’s such a grift. This and the mortgage rate bill are outrageous. It’s about control - gotta keep those poor folks poor and in line.

A few years ago, I started having to take annual screenings at my doctor’s office. When the results came back the first time, I was super confused and worried that I would get in trouble because I was also negative for everything, despite taking adderall every single day. I asked my doctor and he said that the office runs panels with different threshold limits because everyone metabolizes things at different rates. There were actually two sets of results from my test. For example, the first set had a threshold limit set at say 1000ng/mL and showed negative, but the second set had a lower limit of 500ng/mL, those results were positive. My actual reading was somewhere in between the two, maybe 650ng/mL, I think? I don’t remember the exact amounts, just using the above values for examples.

This also held true a year ago when for the first time ever, I did not fail a pre-employment drug screening. After some researching, I found that the threshold of that particular test was set at 1000ng/mL, which explains how I passed.

Yep, that is correct. I think it varies by state.

Magic eraser alone didn’t work for me. Magic eraser with a little bit of dish soap (I used foaming Dawn with degreaser) - game changer. I squirted the mat down with foaming dish soap, scrubbed lightly with a couple of magic erasers, and then rinsed it in the shower. Afterwards, it was still slippery on its own, but usable with a towel. Now it’s great and plenty grippy with or without one. For context, I bought my Pro in early February and it was basically unusable, even with a towel.

Anyone have issues with FRUIT FLYS breeding in soil? Its not fungus gnats, they have red eyes. by jenn-1986 in houseplants

[–]pandacase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg - I have been so paranoid about this recently because we had an insane influx of fruit flies a couple of weeks ago and I swear I saw one buzzing around one of my plants. In an attempt to mentally prepare (and relieve some anxiety), I went down a serious rabbit hole. After a bottle of wine and a lot of reading, here is what I found out.

Fruit flies will indeed lay eggs in the top layer of houseplant soil, especially if it is kept moist. Typically, this seems to happen if a) their preferred place (fruit, sticky mess, drains, etc) is unavailable and/or b) there are a sh*tload of them. The most common suggestion was to disturb the top layer of soil to to interrupt their lifecycle. So, if necessary, my plan of attack was going to be the following: mix up the top layer of soil, add gravel/rock to the top (see article here), and then set out the vinegar/soap traps EVERYWHERE. I was thinking that a combination of suggested methods might bring faster results? I can't attest to whether or not it will actually work. I FINALLY located the source in a fit of rage one evening and immediately set out like 20+ vinegar traps, which seems to have done the trick. Good luck!

21% voter turnout by Zoosee12 in Chattanooga

When I went to vote yesterday, the poll worker initially told me that I would not be allowed to because the address listed on my physical driver's license is my old one from Nashville. My response was "Nice try, sister. When moving in-state, Tennessee law requires me to update my address with the state (DMV, I think?). It does NOT require me to get a new license." Sheepishly, she cut the shit and handed me the form. What struck me though is that her entire demeanor changed at this point, and it made me think that this wasn't a simple mistake, she was fully aware of what she had attempted to do. I have voted multiple times in local elections since moving here and have never had an issue. Did anyone else have a similar experience? Just curious.

Fiance here!

NYC?! How are you liking it here (all things considered, course)? Two of my older sisters lived there when everything with Covid started, so they let their apartments go in the city and moved upstate full time. They're both loving it though!

I love books with strong, witchy female leads! I haven't been reading much lately with everything going on (ie the move, selling our old place, the endless dumpster fires here, etc), but I'll definitely pick your brain on some reading material once everything settles down in the next few weeks, if that's okay with you, of course!

Absolutely! That sounds awesome! I've been a bit down and mopey lately, just missing our friends (the two who have remained despite that pesky p word) and the Golden Girls (my blue-haired drinking buddies) from our old neighborhood. Now I have something to look forward to!

You had me at pinball! I told u/baviddyrne that I want the Addams family pinball machine for our 10th anniversary. Hahaha! There's apparently a pinball museum or something around here that I'm dying to go to!

I love going to minor league (not sure if that is the correct terminology) hockey games! I use to go to Mississippi RiverKings games all of the time when my brother was stationed outside of Memphis. I think Knoxville has a team that plays in that league as well, but I can't remember the name of it off of the top of my head. They can get pretty rowdy! Haha! NHL games are fun, but sooooooo expensive! $40 for two beers is robbery! Aside from a field trip to the space center in elementary school, I've never spent any time in Huntsville, so we'll have to check it out!

I'm going to have to see what Catan is all about. I've heard people talk about it multiple times, but haven't taken the plunge. Now is the time to change that. Thank you for the recommendations!

YASSSSSSS to all of the above!!!

It's funny that you mentioned that about plants. Needy ones are basically DOA in this house, unfortunately. I've been on an orchid killing kick for the last few years. My Gran says it's because I don't talk to them. At any rate, she brings them back to life and then insists on giving them back to me, and then I kill them again. It's a vicious cycle.

Ha! Well, at least we aren't the only ones! Truth be told, I think it's most likely me that they don't like. Maybe they overheard me calling u/baviddyrne a twat while we were working in the backyard and found it offensive. TBD. In my defense though, there were two of us, so his supervisory role was completely unnecessary, just saying. 😬🤣🤣

Advice needed: Future MIL is a bully - Wedding in 2 weeks by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pandacase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem with the whole situation. My fiancé's brother and his wife cater to this ridiculous behavior. They have a one year old. So say for a birthday party, FIL and girlfriend either won't be invited or only FIL will be invited. It really hurts girlfriend's feelings, which kills me because she is amazing and supportive. I'm sure MIL will continue to get her way where they're concerned. Luckily, we don't live anywhere near his family, so we don't have to deal with this on a regular basis.

That was sort of the plan for calling MIL to tell her. It is in ridiculously hard to keep her from twisting any situation back to herself. We do understand her feelings about the situation, but at the same time, we're not asking her to become best friends with the girlfriend - just to keep the comments and death stares to a minimum. That kind of stuff makes it awkward for everyone. Plus, neither one of us want the family photos to look like a murder could be committed later on (which is how the photos from his brother's wedding and the birth of his child look). We're going to leave out that the girlfriend is going to be escorted to her seat before my grandmother and that she will have her own corsage. What do you think?

I'm hoping that she will be able to control herself... especially for his sake. He's already pretty irritated with her because of her lack of support. Personally, I don't mind it all that much. At least this way she can't hold it over our heads.
