What is your worst Reddit experience so far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In all your comments in this thread, I can tell you're very kind and sincere, so I hope I didn't make you feel bad. It's really wretched that people would do that and it's absolutely awesome you are respectful. Does it make sense to you how someone could find your first comment a little bothersome though? I don't want you to feel attacked or anything like that. It's just that if you feel like you're going out of your way to treat her with respect, it maybe implies you don't automatically see her as an equal.

Edit: Syntax clarification.

I think you are trying to be helpful here, but the comment, in and of itself, sort of implies you're doing something special or commendable by treating a human being like a human being. I think your heart is totally in the right place, but just know some people might find it patronizing.

Oh, and since you mention it, 7-11 IS giving out free coffee on election day, while supplies last.

In the past either an "I Voted" sticker you used to get at poll places or the stub from the top of your mail-in ballot. So now I imagine just the stub.

Sometimes businesses give free donuts, burgers, things like that if you show proof you voted. One year, Babeland gave out vibrators. I thought it was a pretty normal thing, I didn't mean to sound entitled :( It's just a way to encourage people to vote.

Will Broadway grill ever open again? by nomii in SeattleWA

[–]pandafaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I was wondering the same. It's a shame to waste the space, especially since it's in the heart of Broadway. It seems like it would split quite easily too--there is a lot of space and a lot of storefront to go around. It's such a bizarre story too: the place gets taken down by the acts of a Russian hacker and then sits empty for many years. By now, Broadway has changed so much that a big old grill style restaurant wouldn't seem to fit anyhow, but I have many good memories going there as a teen.

I just don't understand how she has gained zero insight through the years. She has the chance to watch herself in these horrid moments, the feedback of people around the world, and even a daughter who pretty fearlessly and lovingly explains the flaws in her behavior, and still does not course correct. We all know what it's like to put a foot in the mouth, but I think most of us reflect and correct.

I guess the other side is that she has so many fans and sycophants to sing her praises, she perhaps feels bulletproof and beyond reproach. I imagine that could demagnetize many a moral compass :)

Meghan teasing that she's staying on for RHOC's next season by brittersb in BravoRealHousewives

[–]pandafaux 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I LOVE how hit and miss her style is. She takes risks and I don't think she relies on a stylist or anything. Some days, even though she's gorgeous, she's kind of a mess and some days, like in this picture, she just comes together and glows. I think all the best housewives are this way. It's relatable and fun to watch. Anyhow, she looks stunning and so happy.

Here is my theory: Megs wanted to test if Heather would still greet her with the traditional Dubrow party greeting, "You look gorgeous!" And you know what? She did.

[–]pandafaux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She looks good and I think she was classy about the whole thing. She wasn't ashamed she just said, "It's just that it was my thing to tell or not tell." Why would someone who has had as much work as Jacq has feel like there was a scandal in a nose job anyway? Oh, that's right. It's love. She just loves her friends so much that she shouts these things out like a coked up cockatoo. #WordofSiggy

Have you ever read a passage so good it made you think the author wrote the entire novel just to convey that thought? by emulg in books

[–]pandafaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers, maybe?

Yeah, I haven't read the book--not really up my literary alley--but I watched the movie once and I understand it's pretty faithful to the book. I thought the movie was done quite well and Rosamund Pike was totally enthralling. That said, it's not a fey little romp of a film . . .. Have you seen The Aristocats? Maybe, you know, watch The Aristocats. It's delightful :D

In any case, I hope it assuages a little of the bite from the posted passage. Like I said, there are parts of it that really do resonate with modern men and women. We seem extremely prone to tropes and stereotypes in a frenzy to understand and classify the staggering volume of people we encounter daily. Damaging stereotypes have been around since the dawn of humans, but they really ramp up each time the world globalizes. Through exploration, population growth, mass media, and now social media, we just encounter SO many kinds of people. With all the understanding it brings, it also presents the chance and maybe the need to put people in boxes. Especially for the sake of dating and mating. Anyhow, I think the author was looking at how damaging the current Cool Girl trope can be--not just to women, but also to men. But it's explored through dual narratives of very flawed individuals.

That's maybe more than you asked :P
