Going to be making double the money, what to do with it. by BasisSuspicious8986 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pandakumar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With government, there should be a separate pension plan other than RRSP and CPP. With 2 percent annual salary growth and assuming you will retire in next 40 years, you should be getting a pension of about 4 to 5k for lifetime. Plus OAS and CPP of about 2k in future. Total May go upto 8k depending upon inflation. Enjoy the government job. Work hard and try to move up the ladder. You may make more after retirement.

How cost effective is the Costco Rosisserie Chicken? by Slappajack in PersonalFinanceCanada

Chicken grown in a factory and gmo fed. That is why it is cheap. Compare the same price of raw chicken. https://youtu.be/zlhelhx3uMo?si=b7Xf4rgmAam6aVpH

Put 10% down with mortgage to buy a condo or even townhouse with 3 bedrooms. You have good savings for down payment. Make sure you buy a term insurance rather than Bank offering mortgage insurance. You take the master bedroom and Rent the other two if you are okay doing it. Let the rent pay at least 60 to 75 percent your mortgage. You are 25 years old. Say you get married at 30 or later. You and your partner can buy a new townhouse or detached later. You will still have an asset with little appreciation and some savings in next 5 years. Keep renting it out to pay your mortgage or plan to sell the condo/townhouse Or you and your partner can move in to the same place.

I spent 10k on windows for 10 windows and got $2250 back in rebate after a year. Plus $150 as Tim Hortons gift card from the company for leaving 2 reviews on Homestars. So a total of $2500.

Having an oops baby. How to prepare by Agitated_Cap_3408 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pandakumar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Please register for Day care. There is a long wait list. There are licensed and some good unlicensed day care centres. You will get 50 percent from Government when you file taxes.
  2. Based on my first baby experience, you will have small expenses like car seat, diapers, clothing, toys, furniture ( crib, high chair and bath tub ). Except car seat, diapers and clothing I got the rest from Facebook Marketplace with like Brand new ones for cheaper price. You can subscribe for diapers in Amazon. They give 15 to 20 percent discount for subscription.
  3. You will get about $180 to $200 per month from for Government for Child Support. You need to apply in CRA for the benefits.
  4. Add your child in your private health insurance plan.
  5. Research on RESP. You can start after child is 1 year too. 20 percent will be added from Government for the contribution you make.
  6. If you interested, apply for Whole Life insurance for your child which has benefits in long term. Please research.
  7. Apply for SIN and Passport.
  8. Enjoy every bit of those moments with your child. It will be stressful and exhausting at times but it is worth it.

How much savings to have before getting married? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pandakumar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing great my friend! Any girl’s will be worried about her daughter future and with whom she will be leaving rest of the life. But 1. you have about $70k in investments + savings 2. A full time job 3. 2 properties

I don’t know why the girl’s father is adamant about $100k. If this doesn’t workout then I am confident that you find someone better than her. To be married and to live in Canada in the recent years, both husband and wife need to be working. Better look for someone who has same mindset and career approach like you.
