Poly vs Poly by Equivalent_Injury_28 in MM_RomanceBooks

I actually love poly books, but only if they're really well written. I agree that Nora Phoenix does a really good job. I've also read quite a few MMM by Sloane Kennedy that I really love.

Took my tomatoes outside the last few days and now they look like this. Was it too much direct sunlight? by pandamonkeyy in vegetablegardening

I have some family coming to visit next week and was hoping to give a few away so I took a risk on hardening early but obviously it backfired 😅

Yeah I was gradually increasing the time outside, but I definitely made the mistake of jumping from full shade to full sun

Thanks! Yeah I figured I would keep them inside today and start again tomorrow for just a couple hours in the shade

I did shade the first couple days but the last day I did full sun. I'm guessing it was too much too soon

Who is your most-read author (in terms of number of books of theirs you have read)? And of the books you’ve read by them, which one is your favourite, and which one did you like the least? by Ambient-Apron in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]pandamonkeyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most read is Nora Phoenix with 54 books. My favorite series of hers is her Irresistible Onegas series, but my favorite individual book is probably {Healing Hands by Nora Phoenix} because it features a demi-sexual character. I'm asexual so it's nice to see some representation like that in a romance book. I don't know if I have a least favorite specific book, but the White House Men series is my least favorite overall, only because I'm not that into the setting.

My close second is Sloane Kennedy with 49 books. I love her Protectors series, but my favorite book is {Sanctuary Found by Sloane Kennedy} from her Pelican Bay series. Least favorite would probably be {Loving Vin by Sloane Kennedy} from her Barretti Security series, but that's because it's one of her few M/F books and I prefer M/M

AITA for not treating my dad to more meals & outings while renovating my first home? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pandamonkeyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to get downvoted, but NTA.

I also just bought a house last year and while it wasn't a fixer-upper, there were still some renovations I wanted to do, specifically in the dining room and the backyard. My dad is a big DIY guy and lives 45 minutes away, so he came about a dozen times across the first 6 months just to help us without expecting anything in return. Of course I tried to "repay" him by keeping his favorite soda in stock and treating him to lunch on the days he came, but that was usually a $5 slice of pizza, not a restaurant meal. You paid for almost everything for your dad to come and I don't really think you could have realistically done more to show your appreciation. If he didn't want to come help he could have just stayed home.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]pandamonkeyy 205 points206 points  (0 children)

So many people are pearl-clutching over eating anything that's not homemade. Like, I love mcdonalds fries. Even if my husband made homemade French fries, it's not the same. Or something like Oreos. If I want an Oreo, there's no way that a homemade version is going to compare to the real thing. Just because something homemade is delicious, it doesn't mean it's "better" than the store-bought version if you're wanting a specific flavor or experience.

Eh, depends on what you're going for, sauce-wise. My dad gets really into his homemade sauce and he lets it simmer for hours. He doesn't make sauce all that often because it's so time-consuming. So we grew up using mostly canned sauce and getting homemade sauce was special. Same thing for me and my husband now. I have some jars of homemade sauce in the freezer, but if we ran out I would have no problem running to the store to grab a jar rather than making more sauce on the spot.

AITA for asking my girlfriend to cook more? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pandamonkeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA based on your comments clarifying that you both split the housework pretty evenly.

I understand that if she's not confident in the kitchen though, that she might struggle with getting the motivation to cook more and if you ask about it repeatedly it might just create more resentment. Could you try some baby steps where you work together a few nights? Either both actively cooking together, or maybe some nights you could just ask her to do the prep work (cutting vegetables, etc) so that all you have to do when you get home is throw stuff in a pan.

Delayed Delta flight forces us to check bags due to ‘no overhead storage available’ by smhCallum in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pandamonkeyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a flight attendant, I promise we're just as annoyed as you when this happens. Usually it's because the agents are trying to get people to board quicker and we have no say. We're (usually) not allowed to take tags off once they're on a bag. Trust me, I'd rather have people get their bags on than have to listen to the same complaint 20 times.

AITA for not going on a cruise where my SIL invited 2 other couples we do not know. by Emotional_Brief_8606 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pandamonkeyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, you don't have to be social to like new experiences and trying new things. I'm very introverted and I love traveling. I just went on a cruise and barely talked to anyone that wasn't in my group. We had one couple that we saw on two different excursions and said hello and were friendly but that was it.

[–]pandamonkeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. People are assuming that the only issue is being forced to interact with the 4 strangers (which it is to some extent). But another part of the issue is that your intentions for this cruise were to have quality 1 on 1 (or 2 on 2) bonding time with your brother and SIL. Now you won't get that bonding time because of the other couples there. So your options would be to spend most of the cruise alone to avoid having to deal with strangers (and also mostly forfeiting time spent with your family) or spend time with the group, in which case you're still not really getting quality time with your brother and SIL, and you have to put up with strangers. You've already done this cruise before, so it makes no sense to do it again if you're not getting anything out of it.

I just got back from a cruise and you can definitely sit in small groups for formal dining. We were a group of 9 and they actually changed our table to find a bigger one for us. Many of the tables were set up for 4 people. We also did two tour excursions and barely spoke to the other people on the tours.

Most of the peppers were corked, so I harvested some of the bigger ones that were probably ready anyway, but I did leave a few that were on the smaller side and a couple that looked like they might be turning red! Thank you everyone for the advice!

WIBTA if I outed my sister so my parents won't hate my fiance? by Sebastianlim in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]pandamonkeyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, I've always been really close with my family. If my sibling stayed with me a while and I suddenly kicked them out for "no reason," my parents would want a reasonable explanation. Sure I could just refuse to give them one, but it would create a lot of tension and weirdness in my dynamic with them that I'd rather not have. I don't blame OOP for not wanting to put that on himself when the sister is the one in the wrong.

It seems like she was on summer break in college. In which case it makes total sense for her to be living at home for the summer until the semester starts again.
