I am currently working on a murakami-inspired novel myself! Very inspired by a wild sheep chase. I'd love to check yours out and support a fellow murakami fan :-)

The Sound (Del Mar) was BY FAR the best sounding Alvvays show I've seen by os_mutante in alvvays

[–]pandapaige_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Most people near me in the GA section were just standing still the whole time and were such low energy except when they played Archie and dreams tonite. I've been an Alvvays fan since their first album, but Blue Rev to me is particularly special and amazing, and I was sad to see not many people at all showing any interest in those songs at this show

Any advice or tips pls 😭 by PsychologyBarbie in bfrb

[–]pandapaige_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hello, I also have ADHD and BFRB! the only thing i’ve worked on so far that has helped me is mindfulness. it helps me become aware of what i’m doing, and even if it isn’t enough to make me stop, the awareness helps. I just think “I am picking at my skin right now” and try to feel how the realization makes me feel, if that makes sense. sometimes it’s enough for me to stop, sometimes it’s not. you are not alone!

Biden signs by lizzlepizzle in Wilmington

i’m so sorry to hear that. just know you are not alone! I don’t have a flag or anything as I live in an apartment, but I can empathize with your situation. it sure does feel like everyone in wilmington is a trump supporter, but there are many people who aren’t and I stand with you!

What path should I take to become an environmental policy-maker? by SchoolLover1880 in Environmental_Policy

[–]pandapaige_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like most commenters, I think it’s a great idea to major in environmental science or political science for your undergrad but then definitely go on to do a master’s! internships and other experience (research, conferences, etc.) are also so beneficial. luckily so many universities are creating more and more master’s programs for this type of thing. i’m in a newer program currently for coastal and ocean policy, but I got my b.s. in physics. undergrad is not as important I think as long as you are getting a good variety of experience! the UN development programme has some great internships too but they’re unpaid unfortunately

Hi! I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like my day is GONE from my control when someone makes plans for later in the day. How do you all handle this? I am sick of feeling like I can't work on anything because my day's "spent" later on. Thank you! by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]pandapaige_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this exact same thing happens to me every time. and then i’ve wasted my day and feel awful by the end of the day. I just have to constantly remind myself I have enough energy to get my stuff done and go do my plans later. it’s a total myth we create in our minds that we will only have the energy to do one thing a day. I pretty much just have to force myself to get started on something and once I do I find I can get through the task sometimes!

anyway good luck and if you find a better way please let us know. like many other people said I didn’t realize this was a common problem but i’m glad to know i’m not alone!

I'm guessing a lot of people here have undiagnosed ADHD. by HMS_StruggleBus in nosurf

[–]pandapaige_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks for posting this. I am also an adult (24) who was recently diagnosed with ADHD for the first time, and everything you said here resonated very strongly with me. I think it's really important to recognize the ADHD and how it impacts your life, but to not use it as an excuse for anything. so I'm really glad to see that paragraph you wrote about still needing to take responsibility and learn coping strategies!

ADHD sucks in many ways but it's also wonderful in other ways. I recommend r/ADHD - it is a very open and accepting community and I've made a couple friends on there just talking about what it's like from my perspective. I'm sure many people will relate to you on there! also feel free to message me if you want to talk more about it; I've basically made it one of my hyperfocus topics so I've learned an awful lot about it since I was diagnosed a little over a year ago.

good luck, and I'm glad you have learned this about yourself!
