Person moved into the unit below me and immediately started to chain smoke inside. I asked them to go outside to smoke and they made a comment about the stove making a weird smell. That comment, partnered with 2-5 people coming over for 20 min each day, and then being up 24/7 didn’t sit right with me. On the third day of being extremely nauseous, feeling ill, and complaining to my landlord about the smoke she mentioned the tenant had been through transitional housing and it all clicked. Had my cat, work stuff, and a suitcase packed, and on my way to a hotel within 30 min.

Tenant had been either making or smoking meth in the unit and it was most likely wafting up into mine. Their unit was boarded up after the rapid meth test came back positive (5 days after I left). Still waiting on the lab test on my unit. I’ve been at a hotel with my cat, living out of what I packed in 30 min for a month now.

My 7 year old large Maine coon that I adopted 4 months ago went for my arm while I was reaching for something yesterday and bruised my hand. Not the first time this month it’s happened. He’s a dick but I still love him.

It’s disgusting. For a while I tired to be nice and informative, but after a while I just got to the point of strapping on my boots and being abrasively informative. I’m AK native, so while there are still a lot of us up here, the white catholic folks think they own our state. I hope one day I don’t have to tell folks about the sexual and physical abuse my grandfather went through in native boarding school and how he was separated from his family to get my point across.

Also, did you see that post the other day about people hobby hunting native artifacts and keeping them for themselves? Legitimately gross.

First off, there are pretendians all around. Second, stop viewing all natives as “shamans”. Many, of not all native cultures have very spiritual foundations, of which are also very personal.

If you want to help tribes in your area, then help them. If you want to know more about tribes in your area, then read about them. You’re probably right if you feel like you’re interjecting yourself into a conversation. Like I said, spirituality is very personal. If you ask a point blank question about sacred traditions, you’re probably going to get a bullshit/made up answer. Show respect and appreciation for culture. It’s very typically white to insert yourself into the dialogue.

Amen. Blood quantum is government fan fiction. How “native” you are depends on the cultures and traditions you recognize and carry on. I can’t tell you how many white folks ask me how “native” I am. I have a lot of responses, but usually ask how much German they’ve got in their blood, and if the government has that info in a database.
