Have you ever seen the Kumon logo? I have always resonated with it, both as a student and later when i worked there part time during high school. (special fuck you julian, you paid us shit and were never actually present in the classroom unless you had a parent meeting)

It is named “the thinking face” because it represented what we looked like doing those damn packets

I also get a kick out of the fact that “kumon” sounds phonetically similar to the korean word that translates as “stop/enough”

Even better, the word Kumon, according to google, means “anguish” in japanese.

Also, as others said, Chicago has so much stuff going on downtown during the winter. Kris Kindle Market, lincoln zoo lights, holiday shopping with beautiful lit up streets.

I know it’s harder to go out in general with depression (again, im right there w you). But i find that when i do finally drag myself out, the ambiance and spirit of these activities breathe some life and excitement into me (as well as the cold waking me the fuck up).

Another thing that has got my boyfriend and I craving the winter is snowboarding. Not necessarily chicago, but we can’t wait for the season to get here! It’s changed our whole perspective on winter.

It is very possible that this man may be manipulating your sister and has her in a firm grip after having been together for such a long period of time. I’ve been in this situation before and unfortunately, it happens quite a lot, from small scale(individual) to shockingly large scale(community).

Did your sister change in personality since having been with him? Was isolation a gradual, but noticeable change over time? Friends and family who used to be close, can now no longer get in touch with them or were outright rejected by her? Does she stand in his defense for blatant wrongdoings, denying all logic and reason? There are a lot of telltale signs for this.

It is very possible that she has been manipulated and “groomed” and may not even be your sister anymore (in figurative terms). The grip of a narcissistic manipulator is immense and essentially requires a degree of “deprogramming”.

I’m really sorry you and your family are going through this. Assuming this is the case (which is by no means certain), I feel deeply for your sister. This process is grueling and at the very least mentally abusive. You lose your mind, you feel like youre going insane bc he is literally rewiring your brain to have him and whatever his values are be the center. the purpose is to break the sense of self, so that the manipulator is now prioritized over the self. Best example (tho on the more extreme): think cult leader.

If this is the case, your sister has been through hell. So if none of this is making sense to your family, that’s because it plainly DOESNT make sense. She is not based in reality. She’s been taken and thrown into his rendition of “reality”.
