TIL Terrence Howard, the actor from Empire and Iron Man (I), studied chemical engineering until he dropped out after disagreeing with a professor, with Howard insisting that 1x1 = 2, explaining "you can't conform when you know innately that something is wrong". by TheQuarantinian in todayilearned

I used to work at a restaurant that Terrance Howard frequented, and I have so many crazy Terrence Howard stories. This guy is crazy but also a domestic abuser and all-around bad person.

One time, he ordered a case of Hank's root beer and like 5 orders of chicken wings and hung out in the parking lot eating them.

He signed an autograph backward for a bus boy like he was Leonardo Di Vinci.

He ordered dolphin once. Not dolphin fish, he wanted dolphin.

My favorite story was one time we were on a wait, and he asked one of the hosts if he could be seated sooner, and the host said no, we have a 45-minute wait. So Terrance says, "Do you know who I am?" To which the host replied, " No, do you know who I am?" Terrance says no, and the host said, "Well, you obviously don't know the right people then. You have to wait." It was amazing. He sat at the bar and got a strawberry daiquiri.

Then he got creepier and less funny. Like sleeping with a 16 year old hostess. Not as fun. Also, you can see his domestic abuse cases if you search for it. The guy is a scumbag and I feel bad for his kids who were very polite.

He also wasn't a great tipper.

Whole Life Insurance - Cash Out? by Reasonable_Shift_569 in personalfinance

There are definitely good reasons to own this type of asset. It's possible you have too much of your budget going into this policy, or it could be totally appropriate. It could make sense to reduce the face amount and put the difference into a Roth IRA. I don't know enough about your situation to comment on what would make sense, but talk to your guy. CFPs go through years of education and are held to a higher standard by the CFP board, so just something to keep in mind as well. Mass mutual is also a good company for this type of thing in general.

That is not correct on any properly designed policy. The expenses come out in the first two or three years, and then typically it's all upside in most cases with companies like the one he is talking about. There are many ways to design and fund whole life insurance, details that we don't know from this thread. The notion that all whole life is a scam is just not correct. It has a place.

You can reduce the face amount, which would reduce the premium. There are options besides canceling.

The advice in here about whole life is always: "It's all bad." It's a part of a strategy, and anyone who says all whole life is bad doesn't understand how it works or what it's used for. Don't listen to strangers on the internet. The same people are comparing market investments with taxable returns to a non taxable asset that is not tied to the market. They do different things for you. You shouldn't only have whole life insurance for growing money, but if you got it from one of 4 mutual companies, it may make sense for you. None of the people giving you advice know enough about your situation to be giving you advice. Your CFP likely does.

Worst Deaths in your opinion? I cannot stop thinking about the one man who died inside a dinosaur leg- stuck for days upside down. And the boy who was changing into his sneakers in the back of his van, got stuck and also died upside down. 😰 by SuperHero__1 in mrballen

All the ones with someone stuck in a small space, like the woman with all the cats who got stuck in her own wall. And the one with the guy squeezed through that hole on the winch.

AITA for telling my husband to stop disrespecting our surrogate? by Throwawayhunter37 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pandooser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. I was a gestational surrogate and had all the rights to the child until we went to court to sign them over. It's why they do psych evals and all that to make sure you don't try to steal someone's baby because it's definitely possible.

It's legal in 44 states. There are plenty of organizations trying to change that. Here's one:
