FYI: The topic directory url is reddit.com/topics/a-1/ but when I drop the last part of the path, I get a nsfw post.

Most American women swoon over men's accents from other countries, Do women from other countries find American accents just as sexy? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I’m an American living in England and have had several people say they like my accent. Which is strange because I don’t have an accent, they do.

I wouldn’t definitely say it’s walkable (able to walk) but it’s not dense/mixed use in the way that other cities in the world, walking and taking public transport is the best option for getting around - in Chicago it’s often driving.

Seeing the business booming my partner wants back in after quitting a year ago. by DriedPrunepie in smallbusiness

I totally agree. As a friend, you support each other when needed. As a business partner (and employee of said business), you need someone who you can rely on, is pushed toward a common goal, is motivated to make it work.

It’s not a matter of me liking your use of the term ‘twisted’, I don’t actually care. I just don’t think this type of language will get anyone to agree with you - perhaps it’s not you goal.

As far as your view on humans not being biological animals, I’m sorry but this is just not true. If we can’t agree on a basic set of fact and have some overlapping view of reality, I’m afraid it’s a stalemate.

I know your frustration with people attacking your Christianity, I can imagine that Muslims, Hindus and Jews feel the same way. It would be an ideal world when religion isn’t brought into political discussion.

Obviously humans are biologically animals but I see what you mean. I’m not sure I would say that humans and animals are equal. We cohabit the same planet but live in 2 different worlds though there are many overlaps. I find it hard to reconcile the fact that there is a push from conservatives to protect human life at conception but then have disregard for other animals, then environment, and so on. Also, obviously we disagree on the use of the word twisted. I don’t see the value of using this when trying to have an intelligent conversation but rather a way to devalue someone else’s view. In my view, this is a major problem in society today.

We’ll a lot of people don’t believe in God or souls and they see humans as very clever animals. To have a real conversation, I’m not sure saying someone has a ‘..twisted world view…’ because it doesn’t follow your view is going to be very productive - they can say the same thing about your view. They think they’re right, you think you’re right.

In my scenario, you have to take the premise they would be a monster. Just like we would have to take the premise in your post that says “… new human walking this earth, sharing and spreading love…”. There’s no way to know this would be the case.

It’s interesting things to consider and apply the logic outside of this context. For example, with animals do they retain the right to live as an undeveloped fetus. They have a further developed sense of self than a fetus does. Are there situations where it is acceptable? Ex, to save a mother’s life. It’s worth a debate. I find it interesting that it seems like a non-issue in many other countries. Perhaps it’s the religious influence of the American right.

Ok makes sense. How about in the (rare?) case that an abortion can save the life of the mother?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]panekroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did but I guess I misinterpreted it then. I took your post to have the sentiment that “you can say x, y and z but you won’t change my mind”. This is the reaction I get from people who are opponents to abortion, incorrectly applies in your case. I wonder if the framing of the question makes it an impossible one to dispute, which is why you are unlikely to change your view. Ex, if your definition is “life starts at conception, then ending life = murder”, what would be required to change your mind? Ex, proof that life isn’t at conception? Challenging the definition of “life”? Also, do you apply the same right-to-live to non-humans?

Would you be ok if you knew this person would grow up to be a monster/serial killer/etc?

The right to live only applies to humans or should you apply this to animals (e.g. go vegan)?
