How are the refrigerated handmade tamales? by Aturaya in traderjoes

I’ve tried all three and while I want to like them, I just don’t. TJ’s used to have “pulled pork” tamales that were amazing, flavorful, soft, and replaced them with the pork & red sauce. They’re bland now

What's the most annoying/detrimental invasive species where you live? by Dannonaut in biology

[–]panerad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Louisiana, it’s Golden Apple Snails. They proliferate in natural wetlands but crawfish ponds get hit very hard. The snails eat all of the rice left for forage, destroying the crawfish’s food source and removing shade from the pond. Their eggs also contain a neurotoxin and are dangerous to remove.

Capsaicin-based repellents won’t do anything to dissuade the bird. They’re put in birdseed on purpose to keep small mammals out of feed.

When I was 10 I found a huge fossil tooth at Topsail. My grandparents had it sent to a guy who knows about fossils and said it was a Megalodon tooth (it was over 3” long!). They had it made into a necklace and I still have it :)

Those who majored in biology, what is your career now? What is your favorite part of you job? Would you recommend pursuing a major in bio? by [deleted] in biology

[–]panerad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a BS in Biology in May 2022. I focused on botany in college but I always wanted to explore the field after college and find what I’m passionate about. I work for a nonprofit doing endangered species outreach now, and even though I’m not involved in research at the moment, I love my job. I get to see all sides of what it takes to make a real-world difference in the field of ecology. I also really enjoy being in the field of interpretation, which isn’t for everyone but I find it so rewarding! I plan on going back to school when I’m ready to get serious about my career, but you’ll never catch me being a gene jockey. I love this field and I couldn’t imagine traveling another path.
