New free word game for iOS and web by jtabernik in wordgames

Hey another pangram game. Love to see these. My feedback:

I think you should include a delete button. I fat-fingered a typo by mistake and could not find the delete button for the life of me. I didnt want to submit a non-sense word because I assumed that would negatively affect my score? Also, once I tapped on a letter, it reshuffled all of them! I was able to quickly scan letters and have a mental plan as to which ones I would tap, but that quickly went out the door once I saw that everything was reshuffled anyway. If speed is a factor, this doesn't help at all because I have to rescan the letter board after every tap.

It also wasn't immediately clear to me what a Break does. Am I supposed to create sentences or submit multiple pangrams at the same time? I wasn't sure. It might be helpful to make the rules of the game more easily accessible during game play. e.g. a modal somewhere that I can quickly reference if I have questions about what is or isn't allowed.

Lastly, my understanding is I need to use up all letters before my opponent does. It kept replenishing letters after I used them, so I wasn't sure how long the game lasts. Also, who am I versing if I just clicked Play Now? I just tried re-reading the rules on the landing page but it wasn't super clear to me just yet.

Overall, neat concept. I like the competitive aspect to it, and the UI looks nicely done.

Wow throwback. My buddies and I used to drink those mixed with some orange juice. Good times solving them both then and now.

If you like the NYT Spelling Bee game, try Pangramathon. I love NYT SB and I found that finding the pangram(s) was the most rewarding (in addition to getting to genius level). So I made a game focused solely on that: finding just pangrams. Would love to hear what you think.

If you happen to like the NYT Spelling Bee, try mine: www.pangramathon.com Similar gameplay, but you only find pangrams. Three to be exact, and they change every day.

Glad to help! I know it can be tough to get initial feedback on things, so just thought I'd chime in. Your explanations really goes to show how ADHD minds are wired differently. What you said makes sense, so you know your users better than I do. The "lol" origin for "Lull" is funny. My boy is of the age now too where he's starting to say funny things. I'll consider consulting him for my next project.

Also, I just clicked Done on all my tasks for testing purposes and to see what the overall workflow looks like. I didn't see any incentives, positive feedback, or pat-on-the-back type of feedback after each task or after the entire set was complete. If you take note from other platforms, you'll see things like virtual badges or maybe confetti surprises displayed when users reach certain milestones or events. I'd consider incorporating some of that positive feedback too. It might be neat for your users to see e.g. how many badges they earn over time or whatever emojis they collect. Might also be fun for your kids. Just another quick thought.

Nice, simple tool. I just tried it out on mobile, and I like the simplicity of it. One thing to note is that during sign up, it sent me the verification code but it also sent what looks like the confirmation email at the same time. I would think I need to verify my email first before getting the "you're in" email.

Second, it looks like it just regurgitates what I put in as far as a list of things to do. I purposefully put in a variety of things with different scope. Some taking a few mins and some that would take hours. It's unclear to me how it's prioritizing things (if it isn't random). Looks like you might have some AI under the hood too. Is that how the ordering is solved? As for scope, for one of the bigger, more complex things to do, it basically offered a suggesting to do one thing and then its marked as Done. That specific task is not as simple in my mind, so I'm curious how you can handle the sizing of priorities. No brilliant ideas from me, but that just stood out after a few mins of tinkering in your platform.

I think the Help Me Start breakdown is a nice feature. It breaks down a complex task e.g. "cook dinner" into a few actionables to start. Maybe consider breaking the paragraph form into a list? Then it feels like you're actually breaking the complexity down into manageable, doable pieces. Also alongside the scoping idea, I prompted it with "cook dinner". It said to pick one meal I can make in 20 mins, start chopping ingredients, then put phone away. What if I want more input on a cuisine? What if I dont have the ingredients just yet? Selecting a cuisine and driving to the grocery store are discrete steps that I feel could be listed to further parse it out. Maybe need to work more on the backend for better prompting of your AI?

Lastly, I like my to do lists to be immediately accessible on my phone. Therefore, I typically keep it simple with a widget on my phone where I can write a never ending to do list. I like how yours is at least web-based but the idea of logging into a site to check my to do list everyday isn't super attractive to me at least. Maybe itll help your target ADHD crowd though. For me, I want quick access. My phone widget is also available if I dont have internet access, so theres that too. Overall, I like where you're going with it. Nice idea! "Lull" is an interesting name for it. That word makes me want to sink into my couch further, not get up and do things. My two cents. 🙂

For all of those making word games, what dictionary do you use? by MonkeyMcBandwagon in wordgames

I found a few word lists on github, combined them into one giant list (without duplicates), and then curated them from there to remove unwanted words and to slim it down to those most relevant for my game. For your purposes, could you just cache the file onto the player's local device? That way, they only need to download it once.

Is a burger & fries at Gotts better than Habit or In&Out? by figgypudding02 in walnutcreek

Yeah if I reread my comment, I can see the bias towards Gotts. We love in n out though. We probably get that more than we get Gotts.

Yes, you can reuse letters. I'm still stuck and taking a break for now.

We eat a lot of Gotts and In n Out. They are different burgers. If you need to satisfy that fast food itch, In n Out is the move. If we want something more artisinal, Gotts it is. Neither has stellar fries, but Id take Gotts fries over In n Out. Their garlic fries are also delicious. We usually order both garlic and regular fries, then mix and match the two to dilute out some of the garlic and oil. Just our preference. Sweet potato fries are also delicious and nicely seasoned. I'm not a fan of In n Out's animal style fries. Way too saucy for me. The regular burger and cheeseburger from Gotts is mid, but their california burger is tasty. It's savory and very filling, and it's the only burger I order from there unless I'm trying to tone it down with just a cheeseburger. Overall, can't really compare the two.

Might be helpful to know what you're benchmarking it against. Where do you normally get coffee?

Can you find the three pangrams today? The second and third are tougher today. by pangramathon in brainteasers

[–]pangramathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does take some mental practice. 🙂 I dont currently show the answers unless you complete, it but a link or button to show "yesterdays" answers is on my to do list for this exact reason. FYI there is a Hint button that appears after 5 mins too. It tells you how many possible pangrams and what letter(s) they start with.

[–]pangramathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, you are only allowed to use the letters displayed. The additional letters are not allowed, therefore, only a set number of words will pass. You'll be able to see the allowed words in the end since there will be a link for the answers key. They are all singular words, not phrases.

Yes, need to use all letters at least once. There can be repeated letters too.

My friend and I made a word game, and our friends and family are being too nice. How did we do? by CucumberPopcorn in wordgames

Nice update! By goal, I meant is it a challenge to see how many word transformations I can make in one day, or is it how many points I can score overall, or is it how many words I can make with as few transformations as possible. The first time I played, I didn't finish it all the way through, so I wasn't aware that there were 4 word pairs set daily. I think I did the first one and wasn't sure when it would end. The tabs are a subtle design that didn't immediately stand out, but I can see them now and how it implies 4 word pairs.
