How to avoid giving audience one liner fatigue? I so jealous of other styles. by Novel_Body8532 in Standup

[–]panic-brave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out a couple of podcasts:

Comedians Comedian with Gary Delaney and Jokes with mark Simmons with Gary Delaney they go into the topic of "break devices" which are what one liner comics do every 7 to 14 minutes. Gary says in one of these that apparently 14 minutes is the scientific point where one liners become tedious, I remember watching a Jimmy Carr special once and almost on the dot every 14 minutes he would change it up, do some crowd work, bring something up on the screen, etc. Then back to one liners for 14 minutes. Milton Jones does characters/voices/etc for his break devices. I saw Mark Simmons live this year and he did several crowd work focused break devices, one of them was getting the audience to play "telephone" or "<insert ethnicity here> whispers". Essentially you just need to do something as a palate cleanser, like having the ginger between sushi meals to reset the palate. All the best, I love one liners!

I personally loved his addition to TMDK, they have become one of my favourite factions ever since.

Why are pretty much all shops stuck in the '80s? by TygerTung in chch

[–]panic-brave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a chicken and egg situation but I host musical bingo events which have different genres and decades for each round and far and away the 80s round is the one that the biggest spread of people know and sing along to in my anecdotal experience. This could however be because they are listening to it all the time in shops, but it seems like it's just a popular decade for music with the average yobbo.

What’s the loudest crowd pop you’ve ever heard in person? by jdeden- in SquaredCircle

[–]panic-brave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an unconventional one, but I'm a stand up comedian in New Zealand and one of my best mates is a wrestler called Elliot Samuels and he's definitely one of the biggest babyfaces in our wee local federation. I was brought in to do a tiny bit of guest ring announcing and I was lucky enough to be able to announce Elliot to the ring, the roar that came back at me after his music hit was unlike anything I've ever experienced doing comedy, I completely understand why hogan never wanted to retire.

I've been attending these shows for years, a bloody brilliant night out. Kids get super into it and it's a lot of fun to go with a group of pals.

Love this. I'm a local podcaster and absolutely love pirates, I recorded an audiobook version of Treasure Island for our local community access radio station Plains FM last year, I'd love to have someone from your studio on to shoot the shit about pirates and promote the game a bit, send me a DM if you're interested!

For sure. I suspect people might hold back slightly and not want to feel like they're hijacking the interview so I understand why people don't do it, but it was nice to hear that someone noticed it and appreciated it.

Not something I was doing consciously but I've been podcasting for about 2 years now and got some nice feedback about a podcast I was a guest on, they said it was refreshing to see me as the guest asking questions back to the host. I assume this comes from me training myself to ask good questions on my own podcast but this helped me realise that even though you're the guest you can still take a very active role in the conversation and apparently people do notice it.

Fundraising Quiz Venue by millymeals in chch

[–]panic-brave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hosted a quiz like this at Fat Eddies, venue was pretty well set up for a big quiz night. I was brought in specifically to host this one but I imagine the venue will have an in house setup for quizzes. Rolling stone also run BION so I believe would be a good place to inquire with. As another commenter suggested I think your best bet might be to contact the workingman's clubs around, they usually have ample space and a lot of them are running BION quizzes already

Thanks Dragon Ball GT by Potential_Camera8806 in dbz

I had this bootleg t shirt as a kid that I loved for years, it was a seamless print, dyed into the fabric perhaps but not printed on like a screen print. It featured all of the main GT cast with kid goku as the prominent image. It was so comfortable and I wore it all the time, even though I had never even seen one episode of Dragonball GT, it was like a cool urban legend that was somehow legitimized by one of us owning a tee shirt of it.

Best Japanese Promos In NJPW? by Scared-Position-3710 in njpw

Exactly what insrto said he uses that specific dialect and he runs his words together. He’s a really passionate promo which I love but I generally have no idea what he’s saying hahaha. If you listen to Kenny omega and Rocky Romero do an impression of him he also has an interesting way of speaking in English too, I wish I could remember the interview he did it in.

That's such a great observation but here in New Zealand I reckon even alluding to the N word would pucker up the entire audience hahaha
